chattahoochee Fishing Report 2025

A couple years ago we lost one of our favorite passengers, “Iron Mike” Morrison. Today our charter group honored him on his birthday with a stellar day of fishing. 96 yellowfin 68 skipjack 58 yellowtail.

Good evening from the bridge of the Polaris Supreme. We departed this evening at 1600 on our Ocean Tackle Research 16.5 day charter. It's really nice to have this group of guys back on the boat.  With Charter Masters Lon Mikkelson and John Essler having run 10 day charters for well over a decade, they decided to step it up this year and chase the big cows.  This group is certainly well experienced in pulling on big fish, so it's gonna be a great time for them and the crew as well.

                Today we had a little bit of a late breakfast, followed by quick little wahoo seminar and did some mellow tackle rigging.  The weather is fair, not a total flat ride, but it's bearable. Heading downswell is usually never bad.  The rest of the afternoon we just spent catching up with the guys, doing some boat chores and eating some good food.  Tomorrow looks to be pretty much the same schedule, so check back in then.  For now, this is Team Supreme checking out.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 08-20-2016Good afternoon everyone. We departed today on the Joe Beck/Bob Vance Annual 5 Day Charter. Not long after the morning offload, the boat was fueled up, groceries loaded we were headed out to the tuna grounds that have recently popped up. There isn't much time to waste when there can be quite a bit of time to fish on the departure day of a 5 day trip. We loaded up on a fairly descent variety of sardine, got all of our seminars out of the way and went right into rigging up. We arrived at the area we wanted to look at not too long after lunch and stumbled on few schools right away. Nothing wanted to bite in any volume right off the bat, but Tom Christiansen got down with his jig and managed to hook up on something nice. After about a good half hour on the bow, he was able to land about a 110 lb. beautiful bluefin tuna. Not bad at all for his effort on 40 lb.test. Great way to start the trip. We spent the remainder of the day trolling around yummy flyers trying to locate a nice school to shut down on, but it looked like the fish went down for the afternoon. We'll camp out here tonight, enjoy a nice prime rib dinner and get back at it first thing in the morning. Well check back in with you tomorrow.Tight lines,Team Supreme

The Ranta Charter started off fishing yellowfin tuna with a decent little score on school sized fish ranging from 10-20 pounds. Most of the fish were caught on the flylined sardine with 30 pound test and a 2/0 hook. We also had as handful of troll fish that came off of green and black zuker feathers. The next day we sought after some quality yellowtail between 20 and 30 pounds. Sadly, these fish didn't show like we hoped they would have. We saw a couple small schools of fish that came up and boiled in the chum, but nothing would stick with the boat. Fish were being caught on flylined sardine, yo-yo jigs, and everyone's favorite technique, the surface iron. We managed to pick away at some of these fish in the morning before calling it quits and moving on in search of a better bite. After hearing reports of the yellowfin bite picking up, We decided to make a run to the grounds to get in on the action. We arrived mid-morning with high expectations, as a couple other boats in the area had some big scores off big schools of yellowfin. It didn't take long for our dreams to turn to reality as a four way trolling hookup turned into a wide open bite. They were biting anything that was thrown in the water for a solid hour until most of the passengers had their fill pulling on these tuna, that averaged 15 pounds. We had a couple more stops for not as much success before pointing the boat towards something new. The last day of fishing was spent offshore looking for kelps, but dirty water and 20 mph winds made it hard kelp finding conditions/ However, we managed to pick up a few nice Dorado as well as a couple more yellowfin to add to our total. This was a great trip with some awesome people, a couple a which had their first experience out here fishing saltwater. Ryan Bostian called in to give his Coronado Island Fish Report, "We went out with 50 passengers,we came back with 19 Yellowtail, 3 Calico Bass and 25 Rockfish. Things are definitely on the upswing here at the Coronado Islands. We had a little bit of weather go thru late last week. We had phenomenal fishing right before the storm last week. When the weather went thru it knocked the water temperature down. Things are definitely on the upswing. The water is anywhere from 63 to 65.5 degrees. Very, very clean water. We've had pretty darn consistent Yellowtail fishing down at the Coronado Islands for the last two months.

    A little bit of a slower day out here for us.
    
      We started our morning off all alone where we saw a few big schools late afternoon yesterday figuring we'd for sure be in them.  Un touched schools didn't make them bite any better.  We fished and caught a few in the same zoneish that we've been fishing before looking elsewhere for something fresh.  We ended right back where we'd been and saw the same thing.  Big schools that don't bite well.  We managed a few more of the 60-80 pound grade and a few handfuls of the 25-40 pound grade and some more 18-25 pound yellowfin before it got dark on us.  The weather all day was nice and we're headed back in now with fillet mignon coming up shortly. I hope I made this trip sound fun because that's what it was.  We were drifting 75 percent of the time with a chance any second for a bite. Thanks to Paul and the gang.  We always have fun together.
                            

 

27 yellowfin 21 bluefin 27 yellowtail. Shoulder and belly hooked baits work best when fishing picky tuna. The second picture shows where to place your hook. The baits pictured are also a prime example of what a bad bait looks like, taking your time and selecting a good healthy bait will get you more bites.

Hello Everyone, Today we had our sights set on Yellowtail. We started the morning picking at great grade Yellowtail. Shortly after lunch it really turned on. We finished the day with a excellent Yellowtail catch. The Yellows were all great size, 18-25lbs. It was a great way to fill the remaining slots people had in their limits. All the fish were caught on YoYo jigs and dropper loops. We could not have asked for better December Yellowtail fishing to finish up our trip. We may have time to fish tomorrow for some Rockfish or Calico Bass. Hopefully we make good speed. Will report again tomorrow, Team Supreme
