Today was a tough day at the island. There was a lot of fish around but we had trouble getting bites. However the bites we were able to get were great grade. Most being 50-70 lbs and one standout that was well into the mid hundreds. We are going to try our hand at the variety the day after tomorrow. Hopefully Wahoo, Dorado, Grouper, and school sized tuna. Drew Henderson docked Polaris Supreme July 5 after a five-day trip with 23 anglers. His fishermen had plenty of albacore, but bluefin swept the jackpot spots. "What a great day of fishing," wrote Drew July 2. "Just couldn't be better. Everyone has had their fill of albacore so we are heading off to do some Island fishing for some of those big yellowtail. We should be there by daybreak tomorrow. Weather is fantastic."
At the dock, Drew said, "We got limits of albacore. Benitos has a lot of fish, but they're not biting very well, and the seals are. Yesterday afternoon we had a three-hour bite. The cedar plug is getting a lot of troll fish, ans so is my favorite, the ‚Дтscreamin' pink,' skirted jig." Ray Mercieca of Arcadia won first place for a 38-pound bluefin. He said he bagged it with a sardine on a 3/0 Mustad 91450 hook, 30-pound P-Line, a Penn 950 SS spinning reel and a Daiwa seven-foot spinning rod. Greg Culbert of Ojai was second, for a 36-pound bluefin and Bob Norman of Green Valley, AZ was third, for a 32-pound bluefin tuna.

Hi friends. Today, our good friend and long time Polaris Supreme regular Paul Briscoe told me that my reports were starting sound like Tim's on the Royal Star. First off, I personally enjoy the hell out of reading Tim's reports. That guy is good, real good. Anyhow, today's report will be for Paul so that the people at home can know exactly how our fishing day -- and only our fishing day -- was and no other words. Here it goes.

We woke up this morning, did a seminar. Midway through the seminar, Drew literally ran over a school of yellowfin tuna, dorado, and yellowtail and we began fishing. It was aquarium-style fishing on football yellowfins with a handful of thirty pounders thrown in there too. After that, we drove around all day getting occasional stops on those thirty to fifty pound yellowfin tuna. We ended our day 32 of those beautiful yellowfin, a bunch of footballs, and some flatheads thrown in for color. The weather was flat calm and the bronzing was delicious. We'll be here tomorrow trying for more fat yellowfin and we'll hopefully be the lucky boat to drift on 80-130 lb. bluefin like one boat did today. Maybe I'll tell some stories tomorrow, like how I jumped in the water to save Eric Kinnicutt's fish from being all wrapped up in the propellers and rudders. It was fun. See you later.

The San Diego checked in on March 16, with 25 yellowtail, 6 bonito and  100 rockfish catches.  Yo yo jigs have been the top producer so far but every school has boiled on our chum.Encouraging sign of fish for 1/2 the day today. Couple decent shots on all the popular presentations. We will try again tomorrow.

Captain Mike Pritchard checked in with an final wrap-up from the Tribute out of Seaforthl.  Today we had 27 bluefin (1 shy of limits) 2 yellowfin (first of the season) and 16 yellowtail for our 14 anglers today in flat calm weather.

27 pass. 16 yellowtail 127 kelp bass 34 barracuda 7 sheepshead 19 California Golden Tilefish. Perfect weather and plenty of bites.

Mike Pritchard called i with this report for the Tribute. "Very good fishing here once again. Limits of Yellowtail, 18 mixed tuna with a sprinkling of Skipjack to go with it. The weather is really nice & we are looking around for some more Bluefin.
