 Today was mostly a travel day for us.  We did have a nice little surprise in the morning.  We had a double jig strike on wahoo.  Then we had a couple more singles.  Then we had one more single a little later along with a few dorados.  When we got to the yellowtail grounds in the afternoon we found mucho wind.  It was blowing 25-30 knots right through the grounds we were planning on fishing so we fished elsewhere.  We found a little spot with some current before dark and we captured 6 cow yellows, we're talking 30-40 pounders, to go along with lots of 10-12 pounders and some bonito.  Action is what we call that.  We now have to head north and we'd like to find some dorado tomorrow.  It's going to be a bumpy/windy ride up tonight and we hope for it to back off tomorrow for our fishing and ride home.
 

Good morning everyone, Today started out slow. A slight wind and a racing current made it it difficult to fish in the early morning. However by around seven o clock a switch turned on and the yellows wanted to chew. The sea came alive with eager mossbacks. Eating everything but really keying in on the surface action. The fly line sardine and surface iron really were the super stars today. We were really able to pick off these yellowtail as they made their rounds crashing around the boat. We stayed busy all morning until lunch time when we had to pull it and head north. What a great half day of fishing! Really makes you appreciate days like today when it all comes together and everyone is able to catch fish. Will report again tomorrow, Team supreme

2 days of searching was rewarded with a bottom of the 9th rally on good grade yellowtail. Flylined sardines on 25 lb is the most productive right now.

This past week has been all about chasing yellowtail. The amount of yellowtail we have been seeing at the Coronado Islands has been very impressive. The fish counts have not been a representation of how much fish is in the water. Stopping on a school of 300 yellowtail and only hooking 1 has become very common. On Friday we managed to catch 30 yellowtail and Saturday produced 20. These fish are still running in the 20-30 pound range with multiple fish over 30 in the past week. Fly lined sardines on 30 lb. yo-yo lures on 40 or 50 lb. as well as surface iron on 40 lb. have all been producing fish. These yellowtail have been a challenge to hook mainly because of all the bait in the water. When some of the bait goes away and these fish settle in. 50 to 100 fish days will become common. Hello everyone, Sorry for the delayed report, the weather was so rough that I had trouble keeping the keyboard at my fingertips! Now the weather has smoothed out temporally. Our final day of fishing was a nice day of mixed fish. With Wahoo, Yellowtail, and Yellowfin Tuna. It was a nice surprise catching these yellowtail and yellowfin tuna pushing 40 lbs! A nice grade of fish we have not seen here in some time. We are headed up now and will be in tomorrow morning bright and early. Team Supreme

Funny. Right around this time every year I get an itching to fish the Coronados for big island yellows, and when I get an itch I scratch it! Captain Ryan Bostian skippers the San Diego out of Seaforth Landing running to the Coronados everyday, so nobody knows the islands better or fishes its waters more. Itchin' for some fishin' and with friday off I headed down to San Diego and jumped on board with 28 other anglers for a scheduled full day trip to the islands. We were at the Islands and fishing within two hours and it didn't take long before we were hanging and catching some quality fish. Huge bonito, nice calicos and barracuda paced the early action as Captain Ryan moved the San Diego from spot to spot looking for steady action and the elusive island yellows. We found good action throughout the day and starting hanging some yellows as well. Keith Hayashi landed the first yellow of the day on a sardine and we spent the rest of the afternoon picking off nice yellows on both bait and the iron. Big mean mossbacks in the 14 to 23 pound class. Nice fish !!! We ended the day with 9 yellows, 12 calicos, 19 barracuda and 44 bonito. Really nice day of surface fishing for everybody on board. The San Diego leaves every morning at 5:30 out of Seaforth Landing fishing the Coronado Islands. Polaris Supreme Trip Update 11-29-2018 Another fantastic day of fishing from the time we got up at 530 until the time we left the island at one p.m. It's incredible what a great trip we have had here at Guadalupe. Most of the fish are in the 80 pound range with a few towards 150 and a few smaller. We normally can stay here at the island until dark but our forecast weather does not look good! We took off early so we could get a decent ride home at least in the beginning On the subject of who were the hot sticks on the boat! It was the people number one that had the skills but also were fishing 50 to 80 pound Spectra backing 50 to to 60 pound top shots of Mono with 50 or 60 pound flouro carbon leaders and a 3/0 to 5/0 circle or standard designer.
