bay Fishing Report 2024

Thursday, July 4th, 2013

Good evening, fellow patriots and happy 4th of July. We will never forget what this holiday means to us on the Polaris Supreme and although we aren't celebrating with fireworks, barbecues, and adult beverages, we here on THE Supreme Team will never forget what this day means to us. It's the day that we defeated the aliens. We will never forget what Bill Pullman, Randy Quaid, Jeff Goldblum and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air did for not only the country of 'Merica but also what they did for the entire world. Welcome to Earth!

How did we spend our Independence Day? Well, for me personally, I had Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire" stuck in my head, I nearly froze my bronze off (we on the Supreme call this particular event "fronzing"), I drank two cups of "The Weasel" coffee (thanks RK), and I also managed to gaff Yellowtail, de-hook Calico Bass, and shake mackerel, sardines, and lizardfish into our bait wells. As for our fishing day, it was a little on the scratchy side but we managed to make a day of it multiple coastal species. The trophy of the day goes to Richard "Raider Nation" Miller who landed what looks to be a 50 lb. White Seabass on a dropper loop. He's pumped. Him and Mark think that Raiders are going to be really good this season. We just laugh and pat them on the head and say "we're sure that they will be, son".

Anyhow, we're currently (02:15 hours of the 5th of July) en route to our next bait-making/Yellowtail area and we'll see what we can't gather up for the morning. Depending on what we do, we'll either stay and get nasty or we'll book it for greener offshore pastures. We'll see what happens and we'll report our activities tomorrow. Our weather is just fine and the passengers are all stuffed on Chef Schoolers' Shrimp/Scallop pasta dinner. Heck, Mark even decorated the cheesecake with a 4th of July flair. Impressive for a hillbilly, I know! Good job, Mark. Now stock that beer/pop cooler.

So that is all. We'll hit y'all up manana. Oh yeah, before I go. We'd like to thank our good friend and by far our most handsome and ripped relief team member Joey Freeman for calling us and giving us the Alaska Net Satellite number to the vessel Northwestern. You really screwed up with that one, Joey. Don't think for once second that Drew isn't going to get off this boat in August and drunk dial Sig. Good chatting with you anyways, bud.

Today we turned and burned in hopes of getting back into that great biting tuna! Hopefully they are just as eager as we left em!

The San Diego out of Seaforth Landing in San Diego,CA checked in with us today:

2 yellowtail 18 lingcod 57 rockfish. 8 and half hours of banging our sonar off the rocks resulted in 1 school. Today’s results have zero influence on tomorrow’s.

Captain Ryan Bostian called in from the Coronado Islands at 1 PM to report LIMITS of Yellowtail. We have a light load of 12 anglers catch 60 Yellowtail. We are seeing really nice schools. Call Seaforth Landing at (619) 224-3383 to get in on the action.

First things first !! I think a hearty Sportfishingreport.com congratulations are in order for J.J Gerritsen and the crew of the Apollo for their clean #1 sweep in annual SFR fishcount standings for 2006. Yellowfin Tuna # 1!!!!!!!!!!!, Albacore Tuna # 1!!!!!!!, Dorado #1 !!!! Very impressive numbers indeed !!!! Way to go guys, awesome year !!!!So when good friend and Santa Barbara local Doug Browand called and said a bunch of local firefighters and friends had chartered the #1 boat in the land for a little Island Freelance trip, I was packing my gear and clearing my schedule in a hurry. We loaded up on time and headed out of Sea Landing in Santa Barbara straight to Santa Rosa Island in case the squid and WSB wanted to show. J.J promised us some outrageous rockfish and lingcod action if the seabass were still MIA. We gave it a solid effort but with no signs of squid or WSB we motored up and headed out to some of Captain J.J's secret rocks and reefs. The first drift of the day produced monster reds and chuckles that rival some of the nicest and biggest rockfish I've seen and caught in many years. The Channel Islands Rockfishing is on Fire !!!!!! Throw a bunch of nice legal lings into the mix and you're talking a really fine day of fishing and a great time for all. The fishing at the Islands is only going to get better and J.J and the boys on the Apollo will be there fishing for them everyday. 22 pass. 9 bluefin tuna from 50-100 lbs. A 50 lb setup with a 1/0 circle hook and a 4-6 oz torpedo sinker above the hook was the hot ticket. We also hooked a few fish on 200 gram Shimano flatfalls.

Good evening everyone, we're back!!!!  After 2 months of grueling boat work we are back on the water and couldn't be happier.  What's new with the crew?  Not much with most of the guys.  Jed got his captains license.  That's big news.  And I had a beautiful baby daughter in April.  That's big news too.  Mark's the same enjoyable goofball, Gunny's the same fish hunting fellow.  Schoolers still dishing out tasty meals and Gringo is back helping him out.  We also have some new crew members joining the supreme team this year.

We departed this evening on a 1 1/2 day trip.  We are pleased with  the bait we got because we lucked out and got a tank of sardine to go with a couple tanks of usable anchovy if need be.  Hopefully it will be because we run out of sardine with all the fish we catch.  The reports are fishy.  There's yellowfin and bluefin and yellowtail to catch if you find the right schools that want to bite and those are the schools we'll be looking for all day long tomorrow.  Weather reports are calling for some wind tomorrow but they downsized there forecast from this morning so hopefully it won't be too bad.  Time will tell.

Right now we're wrapping up our prime rib dinner and will be going to bed soon so we're all rested up for our big day tomorrow.  Sweet dreams and goodnight.
