Polaris Supreme update  10-4-12  14:00 hours

Hey Anglers,

Richie and the gang got out at 18:00 hours last evening and neglected to put out a report. But I can tell you I talked to him at 12:00 hours today and he was very disgruntled with only jig strikes to be had so far. I talked to him later on at 14:01 hours and he was doing back flips with over 100 bluefin in a wide open bite and they were still biting. They have great weather and I'm sure Richie will have a report for you by the end of the day or tomorrow morning when they arrive at 06:00 hours. Our next 1.5 day trip is full but we do still have openings on the 6-day departing this Sunday, October 7th.

Hello everyone, Today we spent another day targeting quality Wahoo and school sized tuna. We did great, picking at the Wahoo the majority coming on live bait. The bombs and jigs seem somewhat dormant at the moment, but we're not complaining because fish are coming aboard! At times there is an incredible amount of life out here. From the Wahoo, Skipjack, Yellowfin, Triggerfish, and more. The volume of life makes it difficult to hook the targeted Wahoo and bigger Tuna. So there is quite a bit of weeding out of the small yellowfin and other species in order to get what we came here for. Aside from Tuna and Wahoo we had an unexpected jag of Dorado swim through today. We landed a handful of the larger models to add to the fall variety pack here aboard Polaris Supreme. We are heading up tonight in hopes of a Yellowtail topper tomorrow morning. Wish us luck! We woke up this morning on the drift. I heard Tommy doing the stop and go on his watch early in the morning meaning he was seeing schools. He woke the rest of us up bright and early and it didn't take too long before we started hooking fish. They were the 15-18 pound bluefin and they weren't biting as well as you'd think they would judging by all the fish around the boat. We kept drifting though trying the patient mode. It's a lot easier to be patient with non biting fish when the other boats aren't getting stops. After a while and a few handfuls of BFT we gave up on these fish and went searching for some new ones. It took a while but around lunch time we found a nice big fat kelp and it was an aquarium underneath. Good viewing and catching on lot's of different fish from small throwback yellowtail to small tuna and tuna up to 32 pounds and lots of dorado. Yes it's that time of year. The water warmed up considerably in the last week or so and with that came schools of yellowfin and now the dorado in numbers. We'll take um. Crowd pleaser's is what they are and you know us, we like to please crowds. After a couple hours fishing there we went searching for something new unsuccessfully so we ended up back on our kelp and caught some more dorado and a few more tuna. We're now headed for the yellowtail grounds and everyone is fat and happy and we're planning on some good pulling on big yellows tomorrow.

I ate the escolar again substituting it for the prime rib in the fajitas we had for lunch today. It was smooth sailing John and I mean that in a good way. No problems down there. The fish isn't the best fish in the ocean. The flavor is great though the texture is a bit soft. Opening day for pro football so I'll leave you with this. Go Chargers! Let's do some competing this year. My Pad's couldn't do it so now it's up to you guys. Come on now!

A awesome sunset and some action on bigger Bluefin last night. But..... in typical Bluefin fashion lately, the big ones came through and bit baits flylined on gear from 40-60 pound. We had two fish at color in the dark (estimated @ 130 pounds) and somehow the last 4 fish of the day found their freedom (1 spooled, 1 broken hook and 2 pulled hooks). These things can be down right mean.

Captian Ryan Bostian reported that the San Diego had a good day at the island. Today we had 62 Yellowtail and there were some nice quality. Look at the photo!

Hi friends. A wrap-up of our full day and a morning down here is one that makes any angler giddy. One reason and one reason only can draw out the best and worst in some anglers -- wahoo. We had some of the better wahoo fishing we've had in a few years that I can remember and as the day progressed, they just kept getting bigger. We had ourselves a really fun day down here and in the afternoon time, we had a pretty decent sign of that better tuna, boiling mere feet from the boat rambled up some excitement in us.

Two problems. One, was the lack of current. Two, was the sharks. We had to get creative to hook one and you had to, as Drew puts it "leave your purses in your staterooms" and pull on those fish. Drew had to eventually lead by example and landed a beauty of a tuna on a scad chunk. Inspirational. Although, we only landed one tuna of size that evening, the wahoo bite from the hours prior really had spirits high. We tried to repeat our catch this morning but it was clear that we did a good job of catching the ones that were here. Hopefully, a few more nests move in for our code boat to experience the same type of fishing we had.

At around 1000 hours, we had to begin our journey home that will take us a full day and a half. Normally, I'd be somewhat pumped for travel days but I finished Suzanne Collins "The Hunger Games" too quick (my goodness, Katniss, love Peeta!) and the second book of the trilogy isn't on the boat (damn you, Shawn!). Kinnicut has the third but I hear that the third one is lame. Ugh, rather than reading a good book and napping, I'll just have to do some work to pass the time.

With that, our weather was beautiful all day but is now a little windy and bouncy. Nothing crazy, it's no bronzing weather though. Can't have flat calm and sunny for a week straight, I guess. We'll report our ETA tomorrow night. See ya.

P.S. Before I go, I have a couple of things that I learned today, thanks to Gunny.

1) Gunny is deathly afraid of crocodiles and alligators.

2) Every black man in horror movies dies first. Gunny has strong evidence to support this. I had no idea.
