 Good evening folks. Today didn't fair out like we planned. It proves that's why it's called fishing and not catching. We didn't have the awesome weather that we had yesterday, but it was certainly fishable. Our common yellowtail zone has been producing fairly well over the past few weeks, but there are those off days too. What's encouraging though, is there is also school of yellowfin tuna down here South as well. It's great for keeping our options open for when the tails don't want to cooperate. My feeling is the the tails just took a day off to regroup and we'll get at it first thing in the morning and start tagging some fish right away. On a brighter note, we did move north a little ways in the early afternoon and hit a giant breezer of tuna. Pretty close to a football field size I would say, and we managed to get a nice chunk of them to stick with us. It took some shoveling of bait to get them to stick, but they did. Nothing like a nice chaotic tuna bite to break up the day. We managed to turn it into a nice 100 fish stop of a pretty good grade I might add. All and all, we ended up putting a descent afternoon and everyone got to tag plenty of tuna. Tomorrow is a new day, we'll cross our fingers that the fish God's are on our side tomorrow and we'll check back in after we wrap it up for the day.

We are not quite into the zone yet and we have had a few stops on the jigs. It looks like there is a new body of fish moving in. These Bluefin Tuna are in the 12 to 18 pound class. We will update you later. Have a happy and safe 4th of July!

6 stops worth of picking and scratching accounted for 69 Yellowfin Tuna, 18 Dorado, 57 Skipjack Tuna and 147 Yellowtail. A 20 lb bait rod and a 40 lb bait rod is all you need.

Conditions at the islands are improving very fast. We saw a couple of schools of yellowtail today and landed one. Excellent red fishing on some well rested stones.

WOW!! What an incredible day!!! This albacore is in the cooler 76 degree water. It wants to bite wide open. Can't say enough about how much fun today was catching big fat jumbo albacore. They tired our anglers out. By the end of the day only a few were still standing. Chef Pedro fixed a spicy teriyaki albacore lunch that was fantastic. For dinner he served some delicious veal chops. Today was just a great. this is what albacore fishing is supposed to be like.

Labor day weekend caps off an excellent summer and also moves us into my favorite time of year. With water temperatures ranging from 70 to 74.5 this week was spent looking around offshore for kelp patties. On Wednesday we caught 82 yellowtail and a handfull of dorado. On Thursday we had a big day catching 108 yellowtail. Fridays fish count was 21 dorado and 16 yellowtail. Anybody who has spent any time at all fishing in San diego knows that September thru the end of November is a great time to fish. The kids are back in school , the weather is very nice and the exotics are in the area. With the Coronado islands still closed we will continue to fish offshore for yellowtail , dorado , bluefin tuna and albacore. This time of year the yellowfin tuna should show up sometime in the next few weeks. If your looking for lighter loads on the boats as well as the chance to catch an exotic fish. Now this was the real deal today. Nothing short of epic cow fishing. Scott released a 110 lb., 170 lb. 180 lb., another 110 lb., 175 lb., and a 150 lb. tuna. He kept a 220 lb., and a 250 lb. tuna. Bob released a 180 lb., 130 lb., 190 lb., and kept a 220 pounder. Al released a 190 lb., 125 lb., 185 lb., and a 140 pounder. Craig released a 135 lb., 150 lb., 145 lb., 180 lb., 190 lb., another 180 lb., and kept a 190 lb., and a 193 pounder. Roger released a 110 lb., and kept a 204 pounder. Sheridan released a 125 lb., 170 lb., 150 lb., 160 lb., and 190 pounder. Tom released a 110 lb., 160 lb., 150 lb., 185 lb., and kept a 221 lb., and a 205 lb. tuna. George released a 120 lb., 130 lb., 100 lb., 185 lb., 180 lb., and another 100 lb., and kept a 205 pounder. Wow what a day. We're all just shaking our heads at how wild it was. Lunch was calamari with a red sauce and dinner was veal chops. We'll see you tomorrow.
