somerville lake Fishing Report 2024

Hello Everyone, Today we had a great day of fishing on 20-40 lb Bluefin and Yellowfin Tuna. With a few 70 lbers mixed in. The style is awesome, long drifts keeping 1-4 going for hours at a time. We are loving the grade of the fish and that they are biting consistently. We are in tomorrow and leave on an 8 day. It will be nice fishing south for a nice change of scenery. Polaris Supreme Update 08-13-2012 14:14 hrs.

 

We are that guy, that Lucky Lucky guy. Our morning started out as a 5 way jig strike just after the crack and we are still drifting with the same fish. Yellowfin 75%, Bluefin 25%. What a great day fishing and we have 6 hrs. to go. The weather is still beautiful.

Sep. 14

Good evening folks. We departed today after a very fast turn around on an 8 day trip. I'm back after 2 nights rest and ready to get back at it with Tommy at the helm. Good weather today along with good food, company, seminars, naps and just good old fashion relaxation mixed with anticipation. We're ready to go here. We're ready to get into battle mode. What we'll be battling is yet to be determined at this point in the night. We're still figuring out where we want to start this journey of long range sportfishing.

Yesterday morning we had some good fishing and the albacore and some great fishing on the yellowtail. Midday we got a nice round on the bluefin and late in the day we were back with the albacore biting full speed. It was a fantastic day. Weather was good and is still nice today. This morning we had a nice hit on the albacore. We have had some requests in the office to post the meals we serve on board, so we'll start putting some of that information on as well. Last night Chef Pedro served a wonderful duck breast fillet served in natural pan sauce. It was excellent. The night before we dined on salmon with a lemon, butter caper sauce. Also very tasty.

Some of our lunches on this trip were pork carnitas, with all the toppings and sides, and one day we had chicken marinara with pasta. Food and fishing is excellent! Paul Hess's group has also been excellent.

We will be into the dock tomorrow morning at 6am.

Captain Andrew Viola checked in this morning at 8:59 PM with an audio update from the Pacifica out of Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay, CA.  We have been drifting for an hour and have put together a good score so far.  We have 62 Yellowfin Tuna and 4 Bluefin Tuna.  We are still drifting with fish around the boat.

We have a 1.5 day trip departing on Wednesday night.  We also have a full day trip on Sunday.  Come out fishing on the Pacifica!!!!

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 08-24-2016 As reported yesterday it was a very tough day fishing. We spent the whole day stopping on spot after spot after spot. It got to a point where I thought maybe the passengers didn't think we were really seen fish. One of the things we noticed was where the yellowfin tuna was hanging out, even though it didn't bite It Turns out it was good Intel for today. It did pay off this morning, we ended up shutting down right at daylight on a really nice school that stuck with this until after lunchtime. The grade of fish was 35 to 80 pounds. We hung with it for about another two hours and it just wouldn't bite. After about three hours of searching we finally found where the fish had moved to while we were drifting all morning. We were rewarded with another afternoon bite equal to what we caught in the morning we ended up with a fantastic day of quality, I say quality yellowfin tuna. We also had in the mix by half a dozen nice grade bluefin tuna. We are heading in and going to drop off our Joe Beck charter and pick up Beverly and her group. Keep Cool when it gets HOT and HEAVY! We had fantastic Yellowfin Tuna fishing today. They bit very well and grade was excellent. 15-25 lbs average with 35-40lbers mixed in. The only thing hotter than the fishing was the Baja sun. Pictured here is chef Mike bring water to crewmen Ben and the rest of the passengers during a hot bite. Captain Ryan Bostian checked in late last night. We had very good fishing again today at the Coronado Islands. Today we had 21 anglers catch 85 Yellowtail and 51 Bonito. These Yellowtail are the coastal models and are much bigger than the Yellowtail being caught offshore right now. There are some fish that are in the 10 pound class. Then there are lots of fish coming in between 12 and 20 pounds. So they are nice quality fish. We are catching the fish on fly-lined sardines, yoyo jigs and surface iron. It really depends upon where we are fishing. Please be prepared with a 25 pound bait stick with live bait hooks (1 or 1o). Also bring a 40 pound outfit with Salas 6x Jrs. And a long rod if you what to fish the surface iron.
