shinnecock inlet Fishing Report 2025

The last few days we have been inshore mixing it up fishing Rockfish the first half of our .5 day trip and Calico bass the second half once the current starts to flow. The results have been amazing with limit style fishing of Calico bass in the 1-4 pound range. Most are 16-18" fish. I honestly haven't seen it this good in years. Through the fast action we didn't get many photos, but here is one of out Furuno DFF-3D filled with bass. 

It was slow work as there were 25 squid caught for 20 anglers on a calm sea with hit or miss stops.

We departed today with Chaparro's annual lite load charter. This is his 10th year! A fun group as always and the guys are anxious to get their lines wet. We got a nice load of bait and headed out west looking for albacore and yellowfin with only a few landed.

There were plenty of seiners. Our weather continues to be good. As we dine on steak and lobster we are looking forward to tomorrow to do some kelping. Our web master who handles all our updates will be out fishing himself for the next few days, so there won't be any reports posted until Thursday. Give Susan a call if you have any questions. July 29

We had a descent morning and a descent evening. It was the in between part that stunk for us. From about 9 till 5 we caught and saw nothing. But in the morning it was steady stopping and after 5 we drifted catching fish until after dark so all in all I'd call it a good day. The fish were yellowfin tunas and we're still pulling on one as I write this and that's all I have to say about that. We're going to run up into American waters tonight and try for the Bluefins and the yellowfins tomorrow for our last day of this trip.

Brynn, Brynn, Brynn. Yes you. You sweet little 17 month old you. Your daddy says hi and he misses you and he loves you very much. I know you can read this. I have a sister in law named Brenna. Close enough.

Today we went out with 28 passengers and caught 6 lingcod 74 red rock cod and full Mexican limits of rockfish. Our rockfish were a nice mix of Boccaccio , bank perch , chuckle heads and whitefish. Hi friends. I bronzed today...again. I'm practically glowing, it's madness! I look like Oprah. Everyday of this trip has been stellar weather, and I've been bronzin' ever since the bait receivers, and I can only hope that we're not going to pay for it in a couple of days when we start making our way back to San Diego. We'll see. Anyhow, the fishing today was fair. It wasn't bad, it's just that we had high hopes for wahoo and they're still eluding us to this point. Matt Herrington, Paul Briscoe, Eric Kinnicutt, and Polaris Supreme first-timer Dean Harthorn were the lucky anglers to land a "hooter" today. Dean set the standard of size to this point. Dean probably runs about five feet tall (I mean no disrespect. Dean is one of the nicest dudes around) but the wahoo he caught today dwarfs him. Wait until you guys see the photos on the website when we get in. It's a great picture and Dean was pumped. Good things happen to good people.

Our day also saw lots of releasing yellowfin tuna, tagging a couple of nice yellowtail, and Glenn Briscoe landed a true bull dorado in the thirty plus pound category. G-Man, you're truly the man, G. After landing Glenn's fish, we made the decision to make a run to the inside to see if we can't locate some wahoo elsewhere. We'll check back with you tomorrow.

Oh yeah! Before I forget, Chef Schooler and Jamie are my heroes. For dinner, they prepared a perfectly cooked tri-tip (my favorite), pepper-roasted potatoes, and corn on the cob. On any normal night, I'd be pumped but then they finished it off with a warm brownie, vanilla ice cream, caramel syrup, and pralines. Now I'm super pumped. Between my bronze and my level of pump, I look like a plump Arnold Schwarzenegger. Life is good. See ya.

Good evening folks. We departed today on the long running Heil 5 day charter with a bunch of familiar faces and a handfull of welcomed new ones. Our first stop was the bait recievers and boy oh boy did we get a good load of bait. Best one of the year thus far. Healthy, slimy and lively. It all starts there. It was a normal departure day of lunch, naps and fishing seminars. With mixed reports from slow to ok in the bluefin zone, we're going to start off looking in the area we finished up looking in yesterday. We'll see what we come up with and take it from there.
