Hey gang Ryan from the San diego checking in with the Coronado island report. Some very nice schools of yellowtail have moved into the islands. I can honestly say that every time we stopped the boat today we were stopping on a big school of yellows.

Hooking and landing these yellows was not easy to say the least. We hooked around 30 fish today and landed 16. This time of year a lot of our anglers are first timers so hooking and landing a 20-30 lb. yellowtail in 75 foot of water is a tall order. With that being said we did have several people catch their very first yellowtail ever today. Our hotshot angler for the day was Edgar Marty. Edgar was one of the few anglers who had his own tackle today and he hooked 5 yellows and landed 4. Edgar was flylining sardines on 25 lb. mono with a 5 ft. piece of fluorocarbon tied to the end. Conditions at the islands are about as nice as they could be.

Hello Everyone, Today we had a great day chasing the bigger Bluefin Tuna. We were able to land some great quality fish. Most came on the kite, but the one we landed on a fly line outfit bit 80lb with a great designer hook. Our landing ratio is great, we only need a few more of these quality Bluefin Tuna to make it so everyone has landed a fish over 120lbs. Hopefully we can get it done tomorrow. Capt Ryan from the San Diego from their 3/4 day trip as Capt Tarro to report they caught 82 Yellowtail for the day. If your headed down south make sure to bring all your Yellowtail gear, bring a flyline rig, yoyo rig and a surface iron rig. As of right now we have a small load for tomorrow and we are are go, so come on down and get in on this action.

Capt Ryan Bostain called in from the San Diego the 3/4 day boat out of Seaforth Sportfishing, he said the last couple days were offshore and the fishing was on the slow side. But the good news is that they are back on the fish today, they just called in and said they have over 100 Yellowfin Tuna on the deck so far. We are fishing in US waters, so if you come down bring your California fishing license with you. We are fishing everyday looking for Bluefin, Yellowfin, Yellowtail and Dorado, the boat leaves everyday at 5:30 am and returns at 5 pm. Bring your flyline, popper and jig gear with you and come on out and have some fun.

RECENT NEWS!!! I WILL BE PUTTING SOME MORE OPEN PARTY TRIPS ON THE APOLLO. These trips will be limited to only 20 people. Can you imagine a boat like the Apollo with only 20 people or less every day. I will be running Saturday and Sunday the 10th and 11th. I'll be fishing the northern Channel Islands for rock fish, lingcod and potentially Sea Bass and Halibut. 6 yellowfin tuna 4 bluefin tuna. Tough conditions on the grounds today. Lots of wind and current made it very difficult to land the 30-70 lb tuna we had under the boat. Weather is forecast to be nicer tomorrow. Come out and enjoy the calm before the storm.

"Fishing today was absolutely excellent!" wrote Polaris Supreme skipper Tom Rothery August 23. "The albacore bit all day and the weather has laid down and is good. All the albies were in the 25 to 30-pound range. For lunch we had swordfish in a butter, lemon, and caper cream sauce. For dinner we had a rack of lamb with a blue cheese port wine sauce. Yummy! A couple of boats headed to Guadalupe to no avail. We still have a spot here and there on some of our upcoming trips. Give Susan a call in the office if you can get away and come fish."
Rothery docked his boat at Fisherman's Landing August 24. He spent his fishing time on the four-day trip on the albacore grounds, with a half-day at Cortes Bank, where second skipper Drew Henderson reported big numbes of large bonito biting. The bones were eight to 12 pounds, he said. John Windling of Portland, OR won first place for a 41.4-pound albacore. He said he bagged it with a sardine on a 3/0 Mutu hook tied to 40-pound fluorocarbon leader and 60-pound Line One Spectra. He used an Avet JX reel and a Calstar 765 XL rod. David Schulz of Yorba Linda was second, for a 38.6-pounder, and John Thompson of Phoenix, AZ won third place for a 37-pound albacore.
