~~Oct. 13-14
 Nothing to report on Oct. 13.  More of the same.  Though it was our last day so the cocktail hour was to a minimum.  We arrived to our destination around 1:30 in the am Tuesday morning.  We did a tour for flying fish (to use as bait) but we only caught a few.  We kicked the anchor over and most of us got a couple more hours of sleep.  Everyone got up at 0400 hours and got to work.  Some faster than others.  When I woke up George was the only one in the water so I thought I'd give him a hand.  I threw a sinker on a rig and dropped down a sardine and 5 minutes later we had our first tuna aboard.  About an 80 pounder.  It was our sashimi fish.  After that there was a whole lot of good shark and small tuna fishing going down so again during a time when no one was in the water (due to having to retie because of shark teeth), I dropped another bait down, this time on the rod Mark likes to call the OJ (no one knows why), and about 20-30 minutes later we had a 196 pounder aboard.  While that was going on George got hooked up and brought a 218 pounder over the rail.  It wasn't even light out yet.  After that the sharks fully took over.  It was pretty much unfishable so we didn't give it much time, we pulled anchor and got to trolling and for the next 8 hours or so it was steady striking on the wahoos.  Damn.  We caught about 5 per angler so I'd call that good for sure.  For the last few hours we got steady strikes on one of this groups favorite fishing methods, trolling the yummy fliers.  We caught a lot of tuna today on those and on the marauders and some on bait.  They were all mostly in the 120 pound range.

 The weather today sure was interesting.  The wind never had much strength but it couldn't pick a direction.  One minute it was coming out of the northeast, and the next it was coming out of the west.  It did that all day so for that and the sharkies giving us grief we never tried another anchor job today and we're spending the night adrift.  It also rained a whole lot this evening.  I'd say it was raining cats and dogs when I went to bed but it's cleared up now at 0100 hour as I write this on my watch.  One more hour and I'm going back to bed until 5 when we'll all be going back into battle.  Hopefully tomorrow these dang sharks leave us alone.

The two day trip departs Sept. 19 (Wed.).fishing September 20 & 21 (Thurs. & Fri.), This is an ultra limited load of 18 anglers that has fished together for over 10 years.

Capt. Mike Pritchard called in with this report for the Tribute. "We're still having very good fishing. We've caught 45 Yellowfin tuna, 10 Dorado & limits of Yellowtail. We're seeing very good signs of fish down here, a lot of Yellowtail.

"We do have a 1.5 Dy trip leaving tomorrow night. Right now we only have 9 people signed up. That trip is a definite go, so if you like fishing on a light load call Seaforth Landing at 619-224-3383."

Today we went out with 13 anglers and caught 33 yellowtail and 12 rockfish. The best way to catch a yellowtail today was on a yo-yo lure. These fish are very big and mean so make sure you have fresh 40 or 50 lb. monofilament. We did manage to catch a couple of yellowtail on the surface iron but the yo-yo was by far the most consistent. The yellowtail were in the 18-30 lb. class.

Today we spent our day offshore looking for kelps. We had outstanding fishing on the smaller Yellowfin Tuna even though we released most of them.Our main target today was trying to find some Dorado, and a couple kelps had just what we needed. We ended up with with an action packed day of quality Dorado and small Yellowfin fishing. A great way to end the trip. full of action and a few bigger fish.

  We had a good day.  We had a great day actually.  From about 8-12 it was pretty darn good fishing.  We scratched before that and we scratched after that.  And from 5:30 until close to dark we had very good fishing.  The best of the day.  Heck, I'll call it the best of the year for us.  Quality and quantity.  Through out the day the fish was all mixed up.  !4-22 pounds.  This evening I don't think I saw more than 2 fish below 16 pounds.  Most were bigger then that.  Like I said, we had a good day.  And we did it in the wind too.  All day long it was windy, windy, windy.  But we didn't care.  We were catching fish.

  We're going to stay the night and try and get another good hit in the morning and take it from there.  We may mess around up the lee of the Island or take off offshore and look for tuna.  We'll play it by ear.  First things first, we want a good hit.
              

 

This past week was all about yellowtail and warm water. 40 - 115 yellowtail per trip with a sprinkling of dorado sums up the past week. I attached a photo of the terrafin chart for our area to show you guys all the warm water. Anything over 70 degrees is considered warm and as you can tell we have plenty of it. As a matter of fact finding the cooler water has actually been the key to catching these yellowtail. The most common question this week was "when are the yellowfin going to show up". While I don't have a crystal ball to tell you exactly when they are going to show up. I can tell you that they have made a major northern movement over the past week and there has been yellowfin tuna caught as close as 60 miles. Hello all of you readers. We departed on our Let's Talk Hook Up 4 day trip this afternoon and said some prayers as we headed to the bait receivers. So far as I write this I am still pleasantly pleased by the bait we got. It's still not a dynamite load of bait but compared to last trip we're holding our heads high. Only time will tell. Relaxing afternoon aboard the Polaris Supreme. The weather couldn't be better and it appears we should be blessed with another wonderful flat trip in the open seas.

It's 7 o'clock p.m. and I'm still not 100 percent sure of where we'll be tomorrow. I'm leaning towards starting off where we left off last trip. You'll find out tomorrow. Stay tuned.
