First off I'd like to give a shot out to my Phillidelphians. What up Philly. Your just going to let the Chargers roll in there and get it done. Uhhhh. That's right. You and your candy cane looking uniforms, Xmas all year long here in the mlb of Philly. And here's another thing, your cheese steak sandwiches stink. That's right, I said it. No hard feelings Philly. That's the way I feel about every team the Chargers go up against.

Now onto fishing. Today was awesome. I mean it was just a blast. We started it off early with a jig strike/sonar school and it was game on. Early on it was nothing but small fish. Small yellowtail, small yellowfin, small dorado. So we shook, shook, shook. Release, release, release. Then we caught a nice one. Then another. And another until pretty much everything we hooked was a 30-40 pound yellowfin tuna. Nice! Take that Philadelphia! Well we caught a bunch of them during that 1/2 day stop and it was fun. It was like fishing in a giant aquarium. Everywhere you looked it was tuna. You could choose which fish you wanted to hook if you were fast enough. You had to be quick though. After that we fished some kelps, some that were holding pretty good amounts of dorado, and we trolled around for some more tuna but we were spent after the first 1/2 of the day. I'm telling you, that was fun fishing.

Anyway, the weather today was mostly good. It got a little breezy there late but no complaints. We're sliding down and we're going to look at the yellowtail grounds tomorrow and decide on where to go from there.

Stopped on a school of tuna large enough to catch 200 but unfortunately we hit them when they were off the bite. We managed to scratch 35 yellowfin on light line bait and poppers.

Captain Ryan Bostian checked in this afternoon with an update from “The San Diego” out of Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay! Today we had 44 anglers catch 68 Yellowtail and 2 Bluefin Tuna. Our Bluefin Tuna were very nice grade today. We had on fish weigh 86 pounds and another at 103 pounds. In addition, we lost a few other jumbo Bluefin Tuna. The hot ticket today was a flat fall fished on 60 or 80 pound test.

Capt Mike Pritchard checked in with this report from the Tribute. "Another great day of fishing here. We have limits of Yellowtail. Now we are in search of some Bluefin. We have caught one so far.

Today we started the day trying for Yellowtail and 20-40lb Bluefin Tuna. It was a great start. We had excellent fishing. We had to leave them biting at 9 am. From then on we changed gears to target larger Bluefin Tuna. Around lunch time we found them. Ranging in size from 70-200 lbs, most ranging from 130-150lbs. Most of them bit the kite, but the bait fish that we caught were landed on 100lb flyline with a size 2/0 Gamakatsu Nautilus HD hook. Getting a bite on heavy line required a small strong hook. If the hook was too big then there was a small chance at a bite. If the line was too light then there was a slim chance at landing the fish. It took the perfect combo for fly lineing to get a bite and to land one of these fish.

We will try for these big boys again tomorrow.

Mike Pritchard called in with this report for the Tribute. "We're off to a great start here this morning. We made a move down to the Yellowfin grounds that really paid off. We have over 150 Yellowfin tuna on the boat this morning. To that you can add 150 Yellowtail. We'll keep you updated as the day progresses.

"We're leaving on a 1 Day trip tomorrow night. I know some Bluefin have been caught locally. It's a good time to go fishing. There is still very good fishing to be had. Hope to see you on the water."

Captain Mike Pritchard called in last night from the Tribute. We wrapped up our 1.5 day trip. We fished out West. We had 56 Bluefin Tuna (38 pounds), 52 Yellowfin Tuna, 38 Yellowtail, and other assorted fish. We have another 1.5 day trip that departs on Monday night. This past week has been all about chasing yellowtail. The amount of yellowtail we have been seeing at the Coronado Islands has been very impressive. The fish counts have not been a representation of how much fish is in the water. Stopping on a school of 300 yellowtail and only hooking 1 has become very common. On Friday we managed to catch 30 yellowtail and Saturday produced 20. These fish are still running in the 20-30 pound range with multiple fish over 30 in the past week. Fly lined sardines on 30 lb. yo-yo lures on 40 or 50 lb. as well as surface iron on 40 lb. have all been producing fish. These yellowtail have been a challenge to hook mainly because of all the bait in the water. When some of the bait goes away and these fish settle in. 50 to 100 fish days will become common.
