grays river Fishing Report 2025

Ryan Bostian from the San Diego out of Seafourth Landing checked in.  We had 6 Bluefin Tuna, and 122 Yellowtail.  Took us awhile to get them located but once we did it was very fun!

Aug. 19
    Let me explain to you readers why I had such a great day today.  I am in a great mood and here's why.  It all starts at the bait receivers.  I lifted up the lid for the bait and I saw great bait and alot of them in the box.  Then we netted it and it still looked great and after it was in our tanks it still looked great!  It was schooled up and hanging low in the tank looking healthy.  The best part is we got three boxes of it and for the first time for a while, with the mackerel myself and the crew caught this morning, we have a full load of bait on board.  Now we're not totally in the clear yet.  The bait had only been in the receiver for a day so it had no time to cure and that's always concerning.  It also lost some of it's protective scales as we loaded it so there is a danger of it getting sick but so far so good.  We'll know more in the morning.  For the first time in 3 nights we're not running in to fish for bait all night so we get to sleep.  Stoked.  

    The other reason I had such a good day is the good day we had today.  Our timing was great.  I think it started around 4:00.  Our first stop of the afternoon was a good one.  We landed about 50 of those mostly 20-25 pound yellowfin.  After that we went from stop to stop catching anywhere from 5-20 of those beauts.  We had one heck of a departure day and those fish were free.  Stoked.  Oh yeah, the crew and I had a nap today before we got to the grounds and we felt rested and great.  Now I'm showered and am going to go eat dinner.  Stoked.

Good evening everyone, Today we started off the day in kelp land. Finding many nice kelps along a nice water color break. One in particular held a slew of different game fish. Dorado, Wahoo, Yellowtail, and Tuna. Most of them where on the small side, but it was still great fun catching such a variety of fish. Later on we were able to slide inside and finish off the day with some coastal Yellowtail. It was great ending the day with a nice hit on the Yellowtail. Biting the iron very well, adding to the fall 10 day variety pack. We are pointed north at the moment trying to cover some ground to make it in on time Wednesday morning. Ryan Bostian called in to give this report for the San Diego. "I'm calling to give you guys the Coronado Island fish report. Today we went out with 52 passengers and we came back with 74 Yellowtail. Coronado Islands just keeps kick'in them out. 60% of our fish were 6 to 10 lbs, & 40% were 20 to 30 lbs. Come on out with us and enjoy a great time fishing. The first annual Ocean Tackle Research trip aboard Polaris Supreme returned with skipper Tom Rothery and chartermaster Lon Mikkelsen November 19. The ten-day trip had 20 anglers. "We caught a lot of variety and had good fishing," said Mikkelsen, from Hood River, OR. "We also caught a lot of 40-pound Humboldt squid. The best fishing was on kelp paddies in the warmer water. "We're testing some new OTR jigs," he continued, "and they got bit." Rothery weighed the contenders on the Fisherman's landing certified scales. Clint Campbell of Bozeman, MT won first place for a 65.95-pound wahoo he caught ona silver and pink Raider jig. He said he used 40-pound P-Line, a Daiwa Saltist 30 reel and a Seeker Black Steel 6470 rod. Jon Collins of Menifee won second place for a 52.6-pound skin that bit a pink Catchy Tackle bomb. Collins brought his son into the photo to show off a big dorado. Randy Walker of Huntington Beach was third, for a 48-pound wahoo that snapped up a gold Raider.

Sep. 20

11:00 am report. Well we did as planned and found the mega school of awesome grade yellowfin and topped off on those things. If you remember our first days report we had a very good morning on them so we just needed a topper and that's what we did. The way this yellowfin fishing has been in the month of September in the area we fished is that there seems to be one mega school of it. It was as good as it gets. It wasn't long at all before we were straight releasing everything we hooked. Fun fun fun! Well needless to say we're in bluefin/dorado mode the rest of today and tomorrow. We have a mast rotation going and I'm sure the passengers have a nap rotation going. The weather is great and I'll finish my report later in the next paragraph.

It's later. We never found any bluefin or dorado. We had many more stops on mixed grades of yellowfin which all went back in the ocean to live to fight again and make babies and stuff. So we'll spend tomorrow looking for the blue dogs and the super colorful ones and then we'll head for home.

For some reason there is 1 spot available on our Accurate sponsored 8 day trip departing Oct. 12th. Weird but yes, 1 spot still available so get off your butts one of you and let's go fishing. We also need to get some of you to go fishing on our 12 day leaving on Dec. 2nd. That trip is cool because if there is 200 + pound yellowfin at the lower banks you get to fish them for up to 7 days! And if they aren't around there at that time there is still plenty of time to get down below to the Hurricane Bank and catch them down that way too along with the wahoos. So let's go people!

 Well, we got our tail on today.  We started up there and caught a few, then we went there and had a couple of real nice drifts.  Good tailing on medium sized yellows.  We'll call them 12-14 pounders with a few smaller and a some in the 16 pound range.  We were completely OK with them. I spent my whole time there in the pit with my butt in the air stapling tags on the customers fish while the rest of the crew were gaffing.  After a couple good drifts, and I mean good ones, the fish stopped biting.  No one knows why, they just quit biting so we had to make a move again.  Now if I had remembered there was a Charger game on at that moment it would've been a great time to listen to it being we were making a 3 hour move.  But I forgot all about it.  I was too busy thinking of our next move and the future moves of this trip.  It was a good game too.  If you weren't paying attention we beat the 2014 super bowl champs.  !0 point under dogs.  Beat them up.  That's right Seattle.  Look out nation.

 We didn't catch much when we arrived to our new hot zone.  A couple of handfuls of nice yellowtails and then it got dark so now we sit on anchor.  We can safely fish one more day here before the storm pushes us out of here.  Which direction we'll go?  I'm not sure yet.
