Polaris Supreme Trip Update 11-28-2018 Today was one of those days you want somebody to slap you just to make sure you're not sleeping/dreaming. Excellent fishing on 62 to 100 pound grade yellowfin tuna. The seas were calm but it was pretty windy at times today. Make sure you guys brings a jacket next trip! Conditions were tough with a steady uphill current into the wind all day. The passengers managed to pull it off though with a beautiful catch. We have one more day to give this a try and are hoping the weather man is wrong about the ride home on Friday to Ensenada. It looks gnarly! The Polaris Supreme crew!

Aug. 14
    Arrive depart today.  We offloaded a beautiful catch, got fuel, changed oil + fuel filters, swapped out some crew and left the dock by 10:00.  We're good.  We left on a very long running charter called the Heil charter.  I won't go into our bait loading, I'll just say we have some bait on board.  We were in the fishing grounds before 3:00 this afternoon.  The couple boats that departed yesterday had some good yellow finning.  When we got there it just had that "should've been here yesterday" kind of feel to it.  We didn't see much.  We had one long drift where we picked up 14 but other then that it didn't feel like we were going to get a hit so we rolled out of that zone.  Below there didn't look much better until right around 8:00 when the sun fell we had a good old fashioned blind jig strike that resulted in a good stop.  We always fish till the end over here and tonight we were rewarded.  The fish bit full speed but only for a flash but it was long enough to get everyone on board at least one with many getting three or more.  They were snapping.  I call departure fish free fish because we weren't even supposed to be fishing.  They're free.  Anyways we're going to fish again tomorrow.  See you then.
                             
     Oh yeah, the weather is still sooo nice.  We're going to have to pay for this stretch.

Still plenty of room on tonight’s limited load 1 day trip aboard the Tribute. Trip is $230 and will be fishing for Bluefin, Yellowfin and Yellowtail. Make sure to bring gear from 25-80 pound, assorted fluorocarbon, jugs and sinkers.

San Diego regulars Eli Malfavon and Elmer Mun display a couple nice yellowfin they landed in our all day drift. We stopped the boat once for 103 yellowfin and 27 skipjack.

Tommy Rothery tied up his Polaris Supreme after the Eric Rogger five-day charter. Rothery weighed the fish while Bill Roecker interviewed chartermaster Rogger near the scales. "Tommy burned a lot of fuel looking around," said Eric. "We got some real quality yellowtail." A sardine on the dropper loop enticed the first-place fish for Gil Suizo of Chatsworth, who reeled it in after a ten-minute scrap. "He fought hard," said Gil. "I sweat a bit bringing him in; there were lots of seals around." Gil said he used a ringed 4/0 super Mutu hook, 50-pound P-Line, an Avet SX-2 reel and a Calstar 660 rod. Dan Hendrickson of Chatsworth took second place for a 34-pounder, and Phillip Bruce of Ramona got a 32.2-pound yellowtail that was good for third place.

Capt Mike Pritchard on the Tribute calling in a fantastic fishing this morning, we have over 100 Yellowfin Tuna kelp hopping around the temporary pens. We have seen lots of Dorado in the area putting on show jumping, although we haven\'t been able to entice any to bite yet. We still have lots of time to fish today, the fishing has been the best we have seen in years. Now is the time to get out, call the landing to check for available spots on upcoming trip. The Ranta Charter started off fishing yellowfin tuna with a decent little score on school sized fish ranging from 10-20 pounds. Most of the fish were caught on the flylined sardine with 30 pound test and a 2/0 hook. We also had as handful of troll fish that came off of green and black zuker feathers. The next day we sought after some quality yellowtail between 20 and 30 pounds. Sadly, these fish didn't show like we hoped they would have. We saw a couple small schools of fish that came up and boiled in the chum, but nothing would stick with the boat. Fish were being caught on flylined sardine, yo-yo jigs, and everyone's favorite technique, the surface iron. We managed to pick away at some of these fish in the morning before calling it quits and moving on in search of a better bite. After hearing reports of the yellowfin bite picking up, We decided to make a run to the grounds to get in on the action. We arrived mid-morning with high expectations, as a couple other boats in the area had some big scores off big schools of yellowfin. It didn't take long for our dreams to turn to reality as a four way trolling hookup turned into a wide open bite. They were biting anything that was thrown in the water for a solid hour until most of the passengers had their fill pulling on these tuna, that averaged 15 pounds. We had a couple more stops for not as much success before pointing the boat towards something new. The last day of fishing was spent offshore looking for kelps, but dirty water and 20 mph winds made it hard kelp finding conditions/ However, we managed to pick up a few nice Dorado as well as a couple more yellowfin to add to our total. This was a great trip with some awesome people, a couple a which had their first experience out here fishing saltwater.
