Hi friends. We landed 40 Bluefin most in the 35-55 lb. class Through the morning till lunch time in one long drift. late in the day we sat on another school and managed to land a few before dinner was served. As of now, we're sitting on the "sack" and we're metering fish all the time. We'll see what happens in the morning when we wake up. Hopefully, we can pick away at 'em on the bag and never have to move. We'll see what happens. Weather was ok and looks even better for the next few days.

We're happy with our day as some of the boats down here didn't even break double digits. So, we'll take it and run with it. Chappy and the boys are doing just fine and we'll be making a decision tomorrow whether or not to stay put for Bluefin or make the run down to the Yellowtail grounds. Stay tuned. Take care.

We didn't start fishing today till around 2:00 in the afternoon. Before that we traveled up in very cool dirty looking fishless water as we expected. Everyone slept in and chilled out while the crew did some maintenence on the boat and did some repairs on monday details. After the boat was in tip top shape we ate fish tacos and got ready to fish. We didn't find any wide open yellowtail fishing but we scrached out an afternoon. We caught 3 a round on mostly good grade yellowtails with a few cows mixed in. 35 pounders is about what they were. So we're traveling up now in good weather to the yellowfin/dorado grounds. We could use a top off on some yellowfin and we can use some more dorado and then we'll have most of a day to fish for the bluefin before we head for home.

Aug. 27-28

Here's a 2 dayer for you all. I forgot to write yesterday's report due to my enthusiasm not being crazy high about it. So we fished in these bluefin grounds all day yesterday and for a few hours in the morning today for not much. Yesterday we were seeing sign of fish around. We didn't see any schools driving around but we'd get a meter mark and stop the boat and after a while we'd see a handful or two sometimes more come under the boat and sometimes we would get a few and other times we wouldn't but at that rate the final tally wasn't anything to write home about so that's probably why I didn't. Today wasn't better. I can't say we ever saw a fish even on the machines. We looked through the traditional area early for nothing then went that way for a while then we turned that way for a while and then we turned that way for a while and then we called it a trip. It means nothing for future trips the way this bluefin is. Tomorrow can be wide open. A hell of a trip anyways if you've been reading you'd know it. The boats clean and everyone on board is stuffed and rested. We'll be getting in at 6:00 in the am tomorrow and then we're departing on the 9 day! I'm really looking forward to it. Getting out of this cool August offshore weather and into the warm wahooey weather. As Joe Beck would say, "yeah baby". Thanks to everyone on board and shame on those who were thinking about making it but didn't. You missed the best bluefin bite you've probably ever seen. Drew

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 08-21-2016 Hello Readers, Today was another beautiful day on the water. Fishing was tough but we made a day out of it. It was definitely quality over quantity today. We are all very optimistic about what tomorrow has in stock for us! Thanks for reading, Team Supreme

Ryan Bostian checked in to tell us what the San Diego is doing. "The kids are back in school and if you have been waiting for an opportunity to get on the boat, with a light load, this is definitely the time for you. The Coronado Island have had very good Yellowtail signs. It has been inconsistent. We see them one day, we don't see them the next. The bite one day, they don't bite the next.

"Rockfish make up most of the counts, they last couple of days. But we always keep our eye out for Yellowtail. I don't think this season is over by any means. The water is still very warm. There is plenty of 70 degree water around. Reports have Yellowfin tuna moving up the line and there are plenty of Bluefin around. The problem with the Bluefin is finding fish that want to bite. It is just like the Dorado. There are plenty of Dorado, they just are hesitant to bite.

"It seems like the ocean is in a transition. I expect to see some good counts in a week or so. Our reservations are very light. If you've been waiting to get on the boat, with 40 or 50 of your closest friends; this is definitely the time to come on down. Make your reservations at 619-224-3383. Hi friends. It seems like things just haven't quite lined up this trip for us. Our first day offshore had plenty of small tuna and beautiful weather but a lack of biting bigger fish. Our second day gave us no squid but excellent fin-bait fishing and a really good morning whack on 18-25 lb. yellowtail. Yesterday, we had great weather, a furious morning on wahoo but only a small showing of tuna. Although we did capture a few of those 75-90 pounders, the signal only lasted a couple of hours late in the day.

Looking at our day today, we didn't connect on any 'hoos but after a reposition on the anchor, we started to see very good sign of that nice tuna around. Our problem today was our lack of a fish count. We didn't really have a problem hooking fish this morning, our problem was getting these fish past the ravenous sharks down here. We had steady action on the fly-lined baits and we had a really good kite rotation going but even with 100 lb. test on Tiagra 50's, we were unable to properly horse most of the tuna to the boat before ultimately losing the battle to the sharks. Ugh, very frustrating. Things look really good here on that big tuna and if we didn't have a shark issue, we would've had ourselves a really great day.

Oh well, we had our shots and to rub a little more salt in the wound, the wind is projected to really stir things up out here so we had to make a move a little more inshore to set ourselves up for not only yellowfin tuna, wahoo, dorado, and yellowtail, but to also keep one step ahead of the weather. We've made all the right moves so far, it's just a matter of us having all the stars align just right and when/if that does happen...Sonny Jim, baby.

So that is all. Aside from a little rain, wind, and fish-less kelps this afternoon, our weather was absolutely gorgeous and we took the day to relax and enjoy some delicious food. Chef Schooler served up one of the best fish dishes I've ever had in my life for dinner. Fresh wahoo -- donated by Polaris Supreme regular Dennis McNeely -- was placed under a pool of lemon beurre-rouge sauce with a vegetable stir-fry, and rice. Round of applause for Schooler on that one, I couldn't have been more impressed by that meal and I speak for the entire group. With that, we'll be back at it again first thing tomorrow. Before I go, I just want to mention how fantastic our bait is this trip. We really lucked out as the entire long range fleet is code red mere hours into their trips and we have been blessed with the best load of bait we've had all year. We're grateful, we're pumped, we're out.

P.S. I don't know what's going on, but Mark hasn't had any hardhat infractions in days. I know that everyone following our reports are really confused by a lack of hardhat updates but Mark hasn't received any penalties. Don't worry though, friends, a big one is coming. I'm talking an all-day hardhat donning. It'll happen, be patient everybody, it'll happen and it will be glorious.

P.S.S. Andrea - Jed says that although Ron might have the keys to his room but only you have the keys to his heart. That's very deep.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 09-18-2016 Good evening everyone and thanks for checking in. Today was another gorgeous travel day into the lower latitudes. The weather just just about picture perfect all day long. As normal on these longer trips, Mike prepares a little bit of a later breakfast and shortly after the crew puts on our detailed fishing tackle seminar. There is a lot to go over to get the guys tuned up on the wide variety for fishing we might encounter. Being that there's so many different things we might see, we can't leave any stone unturned, especially for the guys that either haven't been on the Supreme or just haven't been on a longer trip at all. It's very important we have everyone dialed in and on the same page. The rest of the day was rather casual, a lot of rigging, crimping leaders, setting up jigs and just making sure all of the gear is fine tuned,. Once we got everyone tuned up the afternoon closed out with movies, naps reading books and just enjoying a nice ride down. Tomorrow we'll start off with some offshore style fishing and continue to make our plan for the rest of the trip. The Tribute finished yesterday with 57 Yellowfin Tuna and 28 Bluefin Tuna for our 20 Angler’s on board. It was ridiculously nice weather!
