    We had an action filled morning today.  The yellows were biting good.  The only downside was it didn't last long.  For whatever reason breakfast only lasts an hour and a half.  We found another area that we worked on for a little bit then it went down.  After about 10:00 in the morning things were lifeless here until 5:00 this evening.  We had a couple shots at them before dinner was over for the fishies.  We're going to stay the night and hope things change here for the better.  We're hoping breakfast lasts longer and that there will be a lunch.  Theres plenty of fish around here when they're up and the grade of fish is wonderful so we want to stay.
                                

 

Here is a good look at one of today’s schools doing its best to look like a ball of bait. Our Evringham bros. sardines were too much for them to handle and the frenzy was on. 75 yellowtail. 25 calico bass. 23 Barracuda. Very good surface action.

Ryan Bostian called in with this report from the San Diego, "As it stands right now we are only 30 miles from home and we have 150 Yellowtail, 6 Bluefin tuna, and 6 or 7 Dorado. Drew and the guys got in this morning off of Garth Kubeldis's Optima 1-1/2 day charter. They had a great catch for only 16 anglers fishing at 150 miles. The total was 39 bluefin, average weight being 29 lbs., 3 yellowfin, one being the jackpot fish at 35 lbs., and 11 yellowtail.

The POLARIS SUPREME is on line for an open party 2-day trip leaving Wednesday to target the bluefin again. At 10:00 am this morning one boat had just reached over 50 fish in the same area Drew was in and the rest of the fleet was heading that way. One of the things that makes these fish so special is the fact that they are challenging. Growing up in San Diego, I never would have thought it would be possible to catch a 100 pound tuna and sleep in your own bed. Today the special opportunity continued as we landed 3 bluefin. 2@ 75 lbs and 1 @ 156.

The goal at the beginning of this week was to find a new area of fish. Last weekend we started to see signs of our area drying up so on Monday we decided to go looking for new fish. While our fish count did not show success (1 yellowtail) I was very happy with the day because of all the water we were able to eliminate. On Tuesday we went out with 17 anglers and put what we learned on Monday to good use. Our fish count for the day was 20 dorado and 48 yellowtail. The dorado we caught were 10-20 pounders and the yellows were 5-15 pounders. Wednesday and Thursday we sat at the dock due to bad weather. Fridays fish count for 30 anglers was 42 yellowtail. Capt. Ray took over on Saturday and came back to the dock with 27 yellowtail. The next 4 days will determine what we do with our schedule. If the offshore fish are still available in November we will stick with our 5:30-7:00 offshore schedule. If the offshore fish go away we will switch over to 7:00 - 4:00 local fishing. I will keep everybody posted.

Bottom of the ninth anchor job saved the day. Ended with 68 yellowtail 42 barracuda 12 calico bass. All techniques worked today, fish what you have confidence in.

Hi friends. Well, our ride was just OK last night but we made it to the rockcod area safely and right on schedule. They weren't hittin' too hot right off the bat, but a wise black man once told Tommy Rothery, "rockfish don't bite until after 08:00 hours, yo." Gunny, you're so wise, with your little red hat. Gunny was right on. After 08:00 hours this morning, we started picking away at some really nice reds and Lingcods. After a couple of hours, we had to point the bow for San Diego and begin our end of the trip chores. It was a fun way to end the trip and the guys who stood at the rail, in the cold weather were rewarded with some of the tastiest fish that we catch out here. Good job.

Anyhow, not too much to report as we make our way up the line. Our weather currently (11:10 hours) is beautiful and we were just treated to a great showing of feeding Blue Whales. I'm guessing about 50 whales were in sight at one time, fluking and spouting their way about the ocean. Even better, I successfully managed not to hit a single one. You're welcome, Whale Wars, and sorry to the Nishin Maru.

With that, the gang is downstairs kickin' it, Chappy is making a movie and photo show of all the footage that him and I took this trip so that'll be cool to see tonight at dinner. Fish tacos for lunch, "Work Now" list getting the pen treatment, boys are scrubbing, paperwork time. We're out. Our ETA tomorrow morning is looking like 06:30 hours and we'll be turning around with Captain Drew taking us to the promised land. We'll chat with you manana. Time for sandals and Sirius 60's on 6.
