The fish were a little off today. We hit schools all day and just never got the right one to bite. Scott released a 185 lb. and a 100 pounder. Al released a 115 lb., 170 lb., and a 190 lb. tuna. Roger released a 120 lb. and kept a 220 lb. tuna. Tom released a 190 pounder. And George released a 100 lb., a 115 lb., and a 140 pounder. Weather is still beautiful. Lunch was pastrami and swiss on rye and a clam shell pasta. Dinner New York steaks. Hors d'oeuvres were sashimi and sushi. Hopefully all this fish we saw today bites a little better tomorrow.

Good evening Polaris Supreme family. Today was our first full day of fishing at the tuna grounds. We got here about 0800 and went straight into wahoo mode. The skinny's didn't wait too long to show themselves. Getting a troll fish here and there, they sure seemed to like the live bait when we stopped on the jig strikes. Things change from day to day, wherther it be bait, bombs raiders...this morning, live sardines looked to be the bait of choice. After tagging a few dozen of the toothy critters, we got anchored up and went into big tuna mode. Kites out, lines in the water, time to try and chum up the big boys. It wasn't too long before Chuck hooked into something real nice. On his first long trip, he wound up putting a 145 on the deck for a new personal best. The afternoon showed to be pretty slow which can be pretty typical. The guys fished hard though. Eventually the sharks got on us, but not too bad. Could be a lot worse. We hooked a couple more throughout the afternoon and lost them, but that's why they call it fishing, not catching. After snack time, Bill hooked into a cow that took him into sundown that he ended up losing right at color. That's just part of the game though, and we have many more days of fishing time. Shake it off and tomorrow is a new day. The guys all hit the rack right after Chef Mike's amazing veal chop dinner to recharge the batteries because 0400 is going to be coming pretty early. A awesome sunset and some action on bigger Bluefin last night. But..... in typical Bluefin fashion lately, the big ones came through and bit baits flylined on gear from 40-60 pound. We had two fish at color in the dark (estimated @ 130 pounds) and somehow the last 4 fish of the day found their freedom (1 spooled, 1 broken hook and 2 pulled hooks). These things can be down right mean.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 08-27-2016 Thanks again for checking in. We arrived nice and early to the tuna grounds to get ourselves in the best position for the days work. Shortly after first light we decided where we wanted to get things going. It started off quite slow as the conditions weren't just right. We lacked current which is not favorable to catching fish so it became a little bit of a waiting game. That gave Chef Mike his time to get breakfast out of the way. Not too long after we got mobile and did some looking around and finally started checking out some different schools and began scratching away at a few bluefin. They were in the 18 lb class which is not bad at all. As the day progressed, we found the spot that looked the best and posted up, getting a solid chum line going, got the balloons out and settled in. The fish slowly started popping up with some bluefin in the 70 lb class hitting the deck as well as Marilyn landing her first ever balloon fish and first yellowfin at about 70 lbs. Congrats on that one!! The rest of the afternoon was a steady pick on that beautiful grade of tuna. You couldn't ask for a better way to end a 3 day trip. As soon as we landed our last 2 nice bluefin, one being Theresa's 75 lb "dream fish", it was time to pack it up and head home for San Diego.  Well today went as expected.  We woke up on the anchor after a lovely nights sleep and shortly after daylight we started scratching tuna.  It didn't take long to meet our quota.  Some already had it and were dropper looping for yellows and getting a few.  Anyways a little after 7 we pulled anchor and trolled around for wahoo.  One  more than half the boat caught a wahoo by lunch time and we took off for Alijos Rocks.  We traveled the rest of the day while we looked for something floating with dorado under it but we never found anything as expected.

 So like I said, we'll be at the stones in the morning.  We're going to try for some more wahoo before starting north to finish off our trip.  You never really can have enough wahoo.  There is 2 or 3 passengers left on board who have not caught a wahoo so we're going to make sure they get one before anyone else tomorrow.  We call it the troll of shame and Glenn, if you're reading at home, I always think of you when we do this.
         

 

Captain Ryan Bostian called in tonight with an audio update from the San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay, CA. Today we fished at the Coronado Islands. We had 47 anglers catch 117 Yellowtail. The water is nice and warm and the Yellowtail are biting on fly-lined sardines and the surface iron. We are online every day. Come out fishing with us on “The San Diego.”

Today was a tough day at the island. There was a lot of fish around but we had trouble getting bites. However the bites we were able to get were great grade. Most being 50-70 lbs and one standout that was well into the mid hundreds. We are going to try our hand at the variety the day after tomorrow. Hopefully Wahoo, Dorado, Grouper, and school sized tuna.
