If your headed down south make sure to bring all your Yellowtail gear, bring a flyline rig, yoyo rig and a surface iron rig. We're off to a very god start here this morning," said Mike Pritchard. "We're down here at about the 100 mile mark with very nice weather. We're doing well on the kelps and have some open water jig strikes. So far we have 71 Yellowfin Tuna, 61 Yellowtail and a handful of Dorado & Skipjack, for 26 anglers.

"We do leave on a 1.5 Day trip tomorrow night there is still room and the weather should be good. We'll check back later."

In fact, the crew prides themselves on introducing future multi day fisherman to the sport we all know and love. Ryan Bostian the Owner Operator of the San Diego has excelled through the sport fishing ranks and continues to put out impressive numbers almost everyday. Bostian aka "Booger," the character from the movie "Revenge of the Nerds", (Bostian's favorite movie as a kid), began his career aboard the Dolphin as a Pinhead for Captain John Glawson. Like many of the young Pinheads, Ryan dreamed of one day moving up to a full time deckhand and eventually a Captain. He had no idea how quickly his dream would become a reality. During High School Ryan was able to secure a steady deckhand position on the New Seaforth and worked towards getting his Captains License. After High School he moved over to the Pacific Queen then owned and operated by Ed McEwen. He worked on the Pacific Queen for two years and also acquired his Captains License before leaving sportfishing to go to college. Ryan spent three years at Santa Barbara City and UCSB respectively. He enjoyed the University experience, however, according to Ryan, his skiff, was his favorite class and he often chose to fish while his actual classes were in session! It was obvious to Ryan that his passions were in sportfishing and he decided to return to Southern California. He returned to San Diego and started back as a deckhand on the Mission Belle for Captain David Ikeda. Ryan quickly proved himself, and was soon running the vessel. It was on the Belle, that he truly honed his skills as a Captain and spent three years as a hired skipper. When Ryan was just 23 years old, he had the opportunity to purchase the Mission Belle. He bought the Mission Belle in late 2001 and was the owner operator for 2 very successful years. During his tenure on the Mission Belle, The San Diego, a boat Bostian has often noticed for its great lines, came up for sale at Seaforth landing. He knew that didn't want to let The San Diego get away, so he purchased it as well in 2004. He owned and operated both boats for one year, with the help of Captain Ray "Stinger" Montera, but eventually sold the Mission Belle so he could fully focus on the San Diego. In 2005, Ryan did just that and did a full overhaul of The San Diego. He installed a new RSW system, new John Deere Engines, all new galley, and the coatings were replaced top to bottom. He moved the San Diego to the 5:30 to 5:00 run and has been able to not only keep up the success from the Mission Belle but has even increased his performance on the water. The offshore scene in 3/4 day range is as good as its ever been in recent years. I was able to join the crew of the San Diego on a trip last Thursday 8/15 and had a chance to see the great amount of life that is within 10-30 miles of San DIego. A huge biomass of bait was supporting all forms of life and made for an impressive view of the fantastic fishing San Diego has to offer. Last year was a banner year for the 3/4 day boats and this year seems to be even better with many exotics seriously on the chew. On our trip we landed 16 dorado and 46 yellowtail for the day. Ryan was very optimistic about the overall scene and looks for fishing to keep improving. If you are an angler and want to start your experiences offshore, or are an angler who needs to return the same day, the San Diego is the perfect boat to fish. Do yourself a favor and jump on board The San Diego and experience the best the the local offshore scene has to offer.

Captain Ryan Bostian checked in with an update from the San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay, CA. Today we had 23 passengers catch 29 Bonito (8 to 10 pound class), 26 Lingcod and 85 Rockfish.

Captain Ryan Bostian checked in tonight with an update from the San Diego. Today we had 35 anglers catch 9 Bluefin Tuna and 1 Yellowfin Tuna. We are going to stick with offshore fishing thru at least Saturday. We are keeping close tabs on the Coronado Islands but as of today the islands have been slow. Tuna fishing has been far from wide open but we believe the potential for a big hit is there. Fishing changes very fast. Don’t be a part of the “Day after” crowd. Pick a day, Pick a boat and go. No Passports required for offshore fishing.

July 23 Friday After spending all day yesterday searching and not catching our 35 albacore we caught this morning seamed like a bonanza. They shut off at 11:00 and that was that. With the Albacore hit we got on the way down and one of those days fishing Yellowtail one can only dream of, our over all fishing was great. many thanks to our charter head Paul and his great crew of anglers. But he also dose a better job scrubbing and Drew wasn't letting him get out of it. Tommy. July 22nd, 2010 Hello to all. Today we decided to look around at some new territory for the elusive albacore. I'm going to cut right to the chase, fishing was great and catching was terrible. We did see an area of birds/whales that looked promising but we never saw a tuna and that was the highlight of our day. Maybe in time this area will be productive but for now, we know where not to go. The weather is still picture-perfect and our anglers are all in good spirits. We are currently moving up the line to put ourselves in position for a full day of albacore/bluefin fishing for our final day. We'll check back in tomorrow and keep you posted on our day. Richie and Crew. July 21st, 2010 Wow, what a day we had aboard the Polaris Supreme. We arrived at our destination first thing in the morning to find calm seas and a slight overcast. After some scanning around, we located a nice school and within a few minutes we were bent over with yellowtail. It wasn't wide open by any means but it was a very enjoyable pace for our fine group of folks. Around lunch time, we went through a little lull and took full advantage of a chance to rest sore arms, enjoy a glass of water, and get out of the sun for a bit. Oh yeah, the weather was gorgeous. Flat calm with sunshine. The SPF 50 was flowing for sure. Anyhow, after a little break, it was time to go to work again. This go-around, the yellows gave off a much more ferocious vibe and we enjoyed excellent fishing to round out our day. The show of yellowtail was very impressive to say the least. Not many times when we would look into the water and not see free swimming yellowtail everywhere. In closing, we had a very fun day of fishing and we will be sleeping easy tonight. Our plan is to take a look in some different areas for tomorrow and to hopefully round out our beautiful catch of yellowtail with some tuna fish. Thanks for checking in and wish us luck. Richie and crew. July 20th, Good evening everyone, We finally wet our lines first thing this morning and it didn't take us long to get the blood flowing with some Albacore jig strikes. After some short stops for a handful of fish, we found what we we're looking for. We enjoyed a couple of very good stops that kept us busy for the morning. We also threw on a few Bluefin tuna to round out our morning. After lunch, things kind of died down and we decided to head on a southerly course to do some Yellowtail fishing. The cherry on today's sundae was the absolutely beautiful weather. Flat calm, a light breeze, and a nice cloud cover to keep us from getting too toasty. Well thanks for checking up on us. We'll be at the Yellowtail grounds first thing in the morning. Take care. Richie and crew. July 19th, Hi friends, Today we departed on our annual Paul Hess 5 day with 23 of his closest friends. After clearing Point Loma with a beautiful load of bait and an eager group of anglers, we enjoyed a wonderful lunch and rigged up tackle. After our tackle seminar, Sandra and Dave Lafferty went to work in the galley preparing a meal fit for kings and queens. Appetizers, clam chowder and Caesar salad. Main course, Fresh salmon and crab cakes with a hollandaise sauce with gourmet macaroni and cheese, asparagus and corn. To top off the meal, we enjoyed homemade cherry cobbler with vanilla ice cream. To sum it up, it was excellent. The service was top notch as well. Paul and Kyle served it up and Matt kept those dishes sparkling clean. The whole dinner was a thank you from Paul and friends for 10 years of the fine service he's been treated to onboard the Polaris Supreme. From all of us, thank you to Paul and the gang. 27 yellowtail 130 assorted rockfish 5 calico bass. For a brief period this morning the yellowtail reacted a bit better than the last couple of days. Hoping it’s a sign of things to come.
