Polaris Supreme Trip Report 09-23 and 24-2016 We don't have much to report for the last two days just travel days with a tad bit of fishing. We caught one halibut, we had great weather, we ate a bunch of good food, took a bunch of naps, broke down our tackle, and tomorrow morning we're going to be into San Diego at 730 and unload a beautiful catch of Wahoo yellowtail and yellowfin tuna! Thanks for tuning in this trip we will be leaving tomorrow afternoon at 6 PM on a 1 1/2 day trip fishing on Monday. Strung together a lot of short stops and ended with 45 yellowtail.

Capt Ryan Bostain checked in with a report for the San Diego for their 3/4 day trip today down south, we ended the day with 103 Yellowtail for our efforts. Mixed sizes today with a couple in the 10 lb range and a couple around 28 lbs, most were in the 15 to 18 lbs. They were mostly on the surface action today, with a few on the yoyo irons. Come on down and bring a 40-50 lb setup for the yoyo and a 25-30 for flylining and a 8-10 ft jig stick for the surface irons. The Tady 45s, Salas 7Xs or Candy Bars are all working well for the surface irons. Come on down and get in on this Yellowtail action while it is hot.

Hello Everyone, We just returned from our annual Steele 5 day charter. Hosted of course by the one and only Archie Steele. Two things come to mind when this trip rolls around, central valley anglers that love to put fish on the boat and a whole slew of summer produce that we don't normally get our hands on. Yellow Peaches and Asparagus aside we rolled into the yellowtail zone bright and early. There was good sign there and we began fishing. To our pleasant surprise we began landing beautiful 15-20lb yellowfin tuna! A welcome sight, especially because the average size recently was on the smaller side. As we settled in the Yellows got on us pretty good. Helping get the rust off for most of these anglers. Around late morning our current died and we went into a sort of midday lul. We were still able to hang a fish every now and then but not like before. Thankfully it did fire up again around 330, and this time it was hot and heavy. Very steady yellow tail action, had one going the whole time with flurries of 5-7 at a time. All large 20-28lb beautiful yellowtail. Couldn't ask for a better average! We spent the latter part of the trip trying to top off our yellowtail counts and also catch a few exotics. We spent the day searching high and low for Yellows and Dorado. Never got the boomer hit that we were hoping for but we were able to scratch up a handful of Dorado and some more great sized yellowtail. That concluded our five day adventure. Good fishing on great sized Yellowfin tuna, Yellowtail, and Dorado. A great variety trip that kept us on our feet the whole time. These yellowtail are keeping us on our toes ! After two slow mornings in a row, we decided to start our trip out fishing sandbass. While we were catching bass for our mostly beginner group we got the word that the yellowtail were biting a little bit. After running the 12 miles to get in position we managed to land 15 yellows. These fish are 15-25 lbs. and extremely mean.

Please bring a 30 lb. rod to fly line sardines if you are coming out with us. Tomorrow we have a private charter but will be back to our open party run on Sunday. I will check back tomorrow.

Hello Everyone,

Today we started the day trying for Yellowtail and 20-40lb Bluefin Tuna. It was a great start. We had excellent fishing. We had to leave them biting at 9 am. From then on we changed gears to target larger Bluefin Tuna. Around lunch time we found them. Ranging in size from 70-200 lbs, most ranging from 130-150lbs. Most of them bit the kite, but the bait fish that we caught were landed on 100lb flyline with a size 2/0 Gamakatsu Nautilus HD hook. Getting a bite on heavy line required a small strong hook. If the hook was too big then there was a small chance at a bite. If the line was too light then there was a slim chance at landing the fish. It took the perfect combo for fly lineing to get a bite and to land one of these fish.

We will try for these big boys again tomorrow.

Good evening everyone. We raced down throughout the night and into the morning time to arrive to our desired location in the late morning. It took us a while to get things figured out and at around 1030 hours, we saw them, stopped the boat, and like a light-switch (get it San Diego?), things lit up and the corner came alive. Bluefin tuna rushed the stern getting so close that Jed was mere inches from free-gaffing one. They were as hungry as we've ever seen Bluefin and for the short time frame that the fish popped up, we took full advantage of it as our group did work on the Bluefin, a few handfuls of Yellowfin, and a Dorado. For a while there, the whole boat was bent over on tuna. Every bait on the corner resulted in a tuna, easy fishing. We picked away at them one, two at a time after our rush until things dried up, and that was pretty much our day as we drove around trying to locate something fresh. The fish seemed to get lock-jaw towards the end of the day for us but we were still beaming about our mid-morning stop. Other boats in the area had the same type of deals, some more than others, but all in all, it was a good day down here at the trusty Bluefin/Yellowfin grounds. No shortage of fish around here, that is for certain.

So we're headed up the line in nice weather. A little bit of swell but the wind that slapped us in the faces this morning has vanished. Hardly a white-cap out here, beautiful weather and the forecast shows more of the same coming up for out 2 day trip leaving tomorrow afternoon. There are a couple spots still open so call Susan at (619) 390-7890 to book a spot. We'll be departing at 1:00 pm, traveling all day and night to the tuna grounds to arrive in the very early morning hours, fish all day until dark, and then arrive the next morning. The general opinion on this fish is that they will float this evening so we'll have a full day down here to get them located. We're excited about the prospects so give Susan a call ASAP. We'll arrive to the docks tomorrow morning around 0800 hours. Take care.
