Today was a slow day out here for us. We never did find a school. We did a little bit of scratching in the morning, the afternoon was non existent and then we scratched some for about an hour into dark. Only a couple schools seen out here today. It was a slow day for most. We're going to stick it out here for the morning and if we don't see anything in the first couple of hours we're going to work up towards home and look along the way. We're still a long way from home. There's plenty of fishy ground above here too. The weather was OK today. I wouldn't sign up for it. A little breezy and choppy but plenty fishable. Looks like we can expect it better tomorrow and a very nice ride up. Hope they're right.

I had such a great time fishing with Captain Ryan Bostian and his crew aboard the San Diego that I couldn't resist jumping aboard again for another shot at some of those big Coronado Island yellows. There are big schools of yellowtail roaming the Coronado Islands and recent fish counts have been ranging anywhere from just a few fish to 70-80 fish per trip. No sense trying to figure it out. Pick a day and go !!! Captain Bostian and the San Diego fish the Coronado Islands everyday, so nobody knows them better or fishes them harder than the Captain and his crew. We looked for and caught a few barracuda along the coast as we made our way down to the Coronados. We worked several areas of both islands looking for a school of yellows that wanted to stay with the boat. We saw plenty of action around the boat and would hook one or two yellows at each spot, but we could never get them to bite aggresively. We landed 10-11 nice yellows highlighted by Aiyana Schwartz's huge jackpot yellow that she hooked on a dropper looped sardine. All in all a great day on the water with an excellent chance at catching a trophy fish. The Coronado Islands are about to break wide open and Captain Bostian and the crew aboard the San Diego will be there. Hi friends. Long time - no talk. We've decided to update everybody on our annual maintenance season to begin our 2012 season. We hauled the boat out at Knight and Carver Yacht Center and immediately dove into our projects that should take us the next three weeks to complete. Painting the outside/inside of the boat, refinishing the rails, and repainting the deck are just a few of the cosmetic projects on our list along with numerous mechanical projects to ensure that the Polaris Supreme not only looks good but operates at tip-top performance. This time of the year is always bittersweet. It's nice to maintain the boat and get her looking good for the up-coming season but it's also terrible to see a boat like this. The boat is unrecognizable, she sits on blocks, dirt and paint dust everywhere, grease, mud, and tools lying everywhere and it's hard to believe that she'll look like a brand new boat in a few weeks. But somehow, it happens and we hope that everyone will appreciate the hours we put into keeping the vessel looking good and running smoothly for you.

Anyhow, we'll report back to you daily and every few days or so, we'll send some photos along so that you can see what Tommy, Drew, Jed, Mark, Tommie (new guy) and myself are up to on the boat. Hopefully, I'll be able to type after twelve hours of sanding and grinding. Take care everyone.

Hi friends. We finished up our trip today with a decent score of small bluefin, medium bluefin, small yellowtail, large yellowtail, dorado, and two very nice yellowfin. Mark also caught a yellow hard hat which he promptly wore the duration of the day. Anyhow, our weather started out kind of windy but by days end, it was absolutely gorgeous. We're happy everybody had a good time and we'll be in tomorrow morning sometime around 0800 hours. We'll be turning around and rollin' back out with Eric Rogger and company for a five-day adventure. Today we covered over yesterday’s hot zone and beyond to only locate one school. Ended the with 2 yellowtail, a round of bonito and plenty of bottom fish. Hopeful the yellowtail are ready to eat tomorrow after today’s hiatus.

Aug. 11
    We had a great morning today.  I'd have to check with the big guy but I believe we had around 60 of the 15-25 pound yellowfin and 9 of those big 60-80 pound bluefins on our first drift.  I'd call that a good morning.  It wasn't full speed either.  It was just a nice scratch over a period of a few hours.  Nice drifting along there in beautiful weather once again.  I sure hope this weather lasts a while along with the fishing.
    
    After our first drift we did some others of course.  None producing as well as the first one but throughout the day we scratched at some more yellowfin and a few more of those big bluefins.  It was just what we needed after a day of mostly driving around seing a lot and  not catching much.  Needless to say we'll be hanging around here tonight and trying it again tomorrow.

    On a sad note, one of the greats in the sportfishing industry passed away today.  Most of you reading this wouldn't know who I'm talking about because he was a behind the scenes guy.  I'm talking about the great sardine fisherman Joe Machado, and if you've been fishing in the last 35+ years, you were using bait most likely caught or found by him.  As you all know, no bait no fish, so we'll be throwing some sardines over the side for him tomoorow.  RIP Joe.
