Sept. 14

Umm, hmm. Not sure how today was. Well, we never saw a school of fish today but we did catch fish all day long for the most part. I look over at the chart table at my fish count and it looks pretty good. Just short stops all day long for tuna and dorado. Never drove for too long before stopping the boat on fish so the day wasn't great but it could've been a lot worse. Everyone on board had a great time today and caught there share of fish so I have to say that it was a success. An absolute fun, great group of guys for myself and the crew. My first time with Brad and his group and I have to say they were great. Thanks guys, let's do it again. The weather was fine today. A little breezy but comfortable none the less. We'll be at the dock tomorrow bright and early to make a quick turn around on an 8 day trip.

 

Mike Pritchard called in with this report for the Tribute. "Capt. Randy just got back from a 1.5 Day trip with good mixed bag fishing, with Dorado & Yellowtail.

Today we went out on a hunt for the “catchable” grade bluefin. After a couple hours of searching our efforts were rewarded as we landed 13 (50-80 lb) bluefin. Be prepared to fly line with 40 lb as well as fish a sinker rig on 50 or 60 lb. size 1/0 circle hooks on your fly line rod. Size 2/0 or 3/0 on your sinker rig. Always a good idea to bring a 25lb rod just in case we get a yellowfin stop.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 08-27-2016 Thanks again for checking in. We arrived nice and early to the tuna grounds to get ourselves in the best position for the days work. Shortly after first light we decided where we wanted to get things going. It started off quite slow as the conditions weren't just right. We lacked current which is not favorable to catching fish so it became a little bit of a waiting game. That gave Chef Mike his time to get breakfast out of the way. Not too long after we got mobile and did some looking around and finally started checking out some different schools and began scratching away at a few bluefin. They were in the 18 lb class which is not bad at all. As the day progressed, we found the spot that looked the best and posted up, getting a solid chum line going, got the balloons out and settled in. The fish slowly started popping up with some bluefin in the 70 lb class hitting the deck as well as Marilyn landing her first ever balloon fish and first yellowfin at about 70 lbs. Congrats on that one!! The rest of the afternoon was a steady pick on that beautiful grade of tuna. You couldn't ask for a better way to end a 3 day trip. As soon as we landed our last 2 nice bluefin, one being Theresa's 75 lb "dream fish", it was time to pack it up and head home for San Diego. Nov. 12

                I'm sitting here trying to figure out how to start this report.  Well, the bottom line is the cows gave us the slip today.  We got hosed.  The 20-60 pounders were there though.  They weren't shy to nestle up under and around the boat.  They were a little shy to bite though.  We ended up with a few over 1 per rod on the tuna today.  More than half those were 40-60 pounds and the rest were 20 pounders.  Like I said, there were no lack of those fish.  This afternoon we couldn't be sitting any better.  The fish were under, around, and the school was right behind us where our lines were going, then at 3:30, poof, they disappeared.  And the cows never showed.  We looked around the bank for awhile after but there wasn't a scale around anymore.  So we left and we're not coming back.

 

                The weather today was fantastic so we can't blame it on that.  Oh well.  At least we still caught some nice tuna and made jackpot easy to figure out.  We're going to try and catch some bait tonight and fish for all of the above tomorrow.

                                                                                                               

One good stop made our trip. 58 yellowfin tuna 63 dorado as many skipjack as you wanted.

22 yellowtail 2 dorado. Unable to find a lucky kelp or a school today.

2 yellowfin 5 dorado 51 yellowtail. Plenty of kelps but no lucky ones for us today.
