Tommy Rothery brought his Polaris Supreme home to Fisherman's Landing August 17 after the best five-day trip to Guadalupe Island so far this year. Rothery's anglers had an excellent catch of larger yellowfin from the big island, and a couple of wahoo. The luckiest angler on the Eric Rogger trip may heave been Dean Hendrickson of Chatsworth, who got a non-eligible (assist from a deckhand) 110-pound tuna on a sardine and 40-pound line, and a 47-pound wahoo, on a black and purple small Marauder. Phil Bruce of Ramona won first place, for a 105-pound yellowfin. He said he got it with a sardine on a 2/0 ringed Super Mutu hook, 40-pound P-Line and 40-pound fluorocarbon leader, a Cal Sheets-treated Penn 12 T reel and a Seeker 660 rod. Supreme regular Dietmar Kruger of Santa Monica was second, for an 87-pounder he got on 40-pound line, and Alex Rogger of Steamboat Springs, CO won third place, for a 79.2-pound yellowfin tuna. Stephan Kruger of Venice Beach took the trip's best yellowtail, a 39-pound mossback, on the kite with a squid for bait. "He hit it like a massive tuna," said Kruger, "there was a huge explosion in the water under the kite."

~~July 16

We had a very very good day today.  Stoked.  We got in the water we were looking for around nine this morning and it wasn't an hour before we found our first school.  We plunked away for a couple hours and when things slowed down, we got the call from our buddy Brian on the American Angler who was drifting a mile or so upswell of us and he was on the boomer school so we went over and gave him a hand.  About an hour later another boat showed up and we took a break.  I sent everyone in for lunch while myself and the crew got the deck under control and fired up another fish hold.  After lunch we went on the hunt again and found another deal, and then another but by that time most of the anglers were now spectators.  An hour before dark we found another good school and we may have had 5 or 6 people fishing all with a bent rod.  That's what we call a very very good day.

We're off to Cedros Island.  We'll be there prior to daylight and we hope for some good yellowtail action for the next couple of days.

Hello everyone,

fishing down south is on fire right now. Lots of 20-40 lb tuna, Dorado, Wahoo, Yellowtail, and even big Grouper!

Here is a monster 122 lb Gulf Grouper caught on the last 8 day! It ate a whole skipjack tuna for bait!

There are only a few more spots open on the remaining 7 and 8 day trips. Jump on while they are biting!

Look forward to seeing you soon,

Team Supreme

Fishing was not wide open today. The guys topped off with the yellowtail for the trip. They also had good fishing on the dorado on a couple of different kelp patties. Our weather continues to be great. As we travel home to make our 6:00am arrival tomorrow we will be dining on Pedro's exquisite prime rib dinner. Come see us at the dock or better yet book a trip and come out with us. Tomorrow we'll be heading out on Tom Chaparro's annual 5 day, 18 passenger, lite load charter. So check in again in a day or so. Thanks! Tommy and crew

Funny. Right around this time every year I get an itching to fish the Coronados for big island yellows, and when I get an itch I scratch it! Captain Ryan Bostian skippers the San Diego out of Seaforth Landing running to the Coronados everyday, so nobody knows the islands better or fishes its waters more. Itchin' for some fishin' and with friday off I headed down to San Diego and jumped on board with 28 other anglers for a scheduled full day trip to the islands. We were at the Islands and fishing within two hours and it didn't take long before we were hanging and catching some quality fish. Huge bonito, nice calicos and barracuda paced the early action as Captain Ryan moved the San Diego from spot to spot looking for steady action and the elusive island yellows. We found good action throughout the day and starting hanging some yellows as well. Keith Hayashi landed the first yellow of the day on a sardine and we spent the rest of the afternoon picking off nice yellows on both bait and the iron. Big mean mossbacks in the 14 to 23 pound class. Nice fish !!! We ended the day with 9 yellows, 12 calicos, 19 barracuda and 44 bonito. Really nice day of surface fishing for everybody on board. The San Diego leaves every morning at 5:30 out of Seaforth Landing fishing the Coronado Islands. Captain Ryan and his crew will provide you with you're best opportunity to fish the pristine waters around the islands and possibly catch one of the nice mossbacks like we did today. Call the landing at 1-619-224-3383 to get on board today. You can bet I'll be back on board the next time I'm a itchin'. That's the "word on the water" Don. Polaris Supreme Trip Report 08-19-2016 Hello Everyone, Today we woke up having hopes of a repeat day of yesterday. We started off the day by hooking a nice yellowfin of the same size quality as yesterday, but the school did not stick. We had our work cut out for us chasing school after school, spot after spot with the same results. The tuna had lock jaw today and had very suspect behavior of line shy bluefin tuna. Needless to say it was tough, we scraped up another school sized tuna and had a nice flash of yellowtail right at sunset. A nice way to finish off a great trip with a small shooter of yellowtail right before we rode off into the sunset and pointed to boat to San Diego. We Would like to thank Dave Dolan for putting together a great "lets talk hook up" four day trip. We sure had a great time catching some yellows and some of the best quality tuna we will likely see on a four day trip. We will be in bright and early tomorrow. Thanks for stopping by, Team Supreme
