We had a great day of fishing here on our Bogart Construction 2 day. There were some slow times but also some fast and furious times! We had great fishing on beautiful Dorado and Yellowfin Tuna. It was a bit crazy at times but tons of fun!

July 28th, 2010 Good evening to all.

Today was our final day of our SoCal Tuna Club 5 day trip and there was only one thing on our minds...Albacore. As of now, Albacore are still on our minds because we didn't quite connect with what we had hoped for. We had a few stops throughout the day that made our day not all for lost, but overall it was a slow day. Everyone in the zone were concentrated on a tiny little area with the hopes that the late afternoon float would be grand. The float, or lack there of, was definitely not grand.

 

 

 

Although we did see a couple massive schools of Albacore late in the day, we never saw the whites of their eyes. No boils, no hookups, no go. Encouraging to see such a nice volume of fish but discouraging to not get any response whatsoever. Scores for the day varied and we were smack dab right in the middle. Let my clarify, it wasn't like some guys clobbered them and some guys didn't. It was a slow day of fishing for all the boats down here and the numbers weren't so great. Needless to say, we feel very fortunate to have caught what we caught. At dark, we called it a trip and began heading for the barn. The best bite of the day was in the galley for sure. Our traditional final night feast of filet and lobster dinner was enjoyed by all. Our thanks goes out to our fine passengers today for always being on call to throw a bait in the water and keeping a good attitude towards the day. We'll be arriving tomorrow morning around 7:00 am to unload, refuel, resupply, reload and do it all over again with Tom Chaparro and the Stern Hogs. Thanks for checking in. Have a pleasant evening. July 27th, 2010 Howdy gang.

Today's day from the offshore grounds was nothing to write home about but we're going to do it anyways. The numbers weren't the greatest but we sure did see a lot of life in the area. Birds picking on the bait from the surface and Bluefin tuna attacking from the bottom. We saw tons of fish and only managed to capture a handful. If this stuff decides to get on the bite, it's going to be a lot of fun for us. For now, we'll just keep our fingers crossed until then. We'll be finishing off our trip on the hunt for Albacore for our last day. Our weather is improving as we speak and we're currently enjoying a nice ride. Here's a rundown of our adventures to "Yellowtail Land" for the 25th / 26th of July. We arrived to our first destination just after dinner and began the dropper loop assault. Well, it wasn't quite an assault, but we did manage 7 quality yellowtail between 25-30 lbs. The gang fished hard throughout the night but sleep ultimately was needed, so we made the decision to bust a move and start off elsewhere in the morning. The morning time brought us cloud cover and breeze. Not bad by any means, but it was a little cold for my liking. Anyways, what was not cold was the fishing we enjoyed for the next few hours. Steady drift fishing for yellowtail in the 14-20 lb. range and that was before we decided to drop anchor. After we came tight on the anchor, it was GAME ON! Now I know you might be asking "Richie. What was the preferred method of fishing for these fish?" Well, today it was having a live bait or a jig with a hook on the end of it. Pretty simple. They bit very, very well and just to top off a stellar morning of fishing, the skies were sunny and the seas were flat calm. Awesome. After Chef Schooler kicked out his signature Carnitas Taco Plate with all the fixin's, we pulled anchor, gave up our spot to our fellow code boat, and boogie'd out of the area to focus solely on tuna fishing for the next couple of days. Now our plan is to go and catch lots of albacore and lots of bluefin. We'll be sticking to the plan, but it's all up to the tuna to make it happen. Currently, our weather is a little choppy but it's nothing we can't handle. Wish us luck and stay tuned. Richie and the members of TEAM SUPREME. P.S. Drew says hi mom. July 25th Sunday Of shore fishing just isn't working out south of the border lately. Weather was good and catching was bad untill dark when we slid into the island for a little night bite on 25 to 30 lb Yellowtail. It was just a taste of what we are hoping for tomorrow. Our Southern California Tuna Club Anglers got to bed around 11:00 pm and we are off to set up for the morning. The local boys scratched up a afternoon after what was a brutally slow morning of albacore fishing up north. We are hoping that is on the up swing for the end of our trip. Our Charter head Dr. Al Hermer has put together a Limited load group of only 20 anglers for this adventure. As the end of the day approached we received news of one boat with over 100 Albacore and 4 others in the 60s. With the inconsistency in the bite we decided to head for the yellow tail grounds first. The weather is a little choppy but our ride is good heading down as our anglers dine on prime rib. Tomorrow will be a off shore day. We have a nice load of bait and are looking forward to putting it to good use. Thanks Tommy and crew

Yesterday we had 54 California Yellowtail, 47 California Barracuda, 6 Kelp Bass, 3 California Sheephead, 35 Rockfish and 1 Lingcod.The fishing has been very good at the Coronado Islands! I have a little web-site update for you. We have put all of our photos from the past years, into albums on the photo page. As you will see they are categorized by year first, then the date of the trip, then the group. In the past they have all been grouped together in one big mess. Hopefully this will help you find the trip you were on in the past years. Also you will be able to more easily create your own photo albums for the trips you were on. A new update on offshore fishing. Last weekend's 2-day trip was a huge success targeting the big bluefin. Drew and the boys got the anglers into the fish at 150 miles and had a five hour long drift where they hooked over fifty 65-75 pound bluefin! When the dust settled they had 23 of these beauties on deck. They also picked up seven smaller grade bluefin and a few of the small yellows. For those of you going out on upcoming trips you defiantly need the usual 50 lb. 2-speed reel. Some of the guys also had 40 lb. 2-speeds and it was the true money maker for this bigger fish. It was the best of both worlds having lighter line that got bit better and the 2-speed that really let then put the  pressure on the fish after the initial run. So put one in your bag.

Also yesterday fish popped up in good volume closer to home at 70-100 miles. We are watching this to see how this develops for the shorter trips. Hopefully we won't have to make the 120-150 mile run. Hello all of you readers. We departed on our Let's Talk Hook Up 4 day trip this afternoon and said some prayers as we headed to the bait receivers. So far as I write this I am still pleasantly pleased by the bait we got. It's still not a dynamite load of bait but compared to last trip we're holding our heads high. Only time will tell. Relaxing afternoon aboard the Polaris Supreme. The weather couldn't be better and it appears we should be blessed with another wonderful flat trip in the open seas.

It's 7 o'clock p.m. and I'm still not 100 percent sure of where we'll be tomorrow. I'm leaning towards starting off where we left off last trip. You'll find out tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Tommy Rothery docked his Polaris Supreme after the annual George Davis Expedition, with only eight anglers aboard. Rothery tied up at his space on the inner wing at Fisherman's Landing, ending his long range season on a positive note with a visit to Baja's southern banks and the Cleofas Bank, where all the fish that were kept were caught. Four cows were among the fish offloaded January 13. "All the big fish were from Cleofas," said Tommy. We released about half the fish we caught there, and nearly everything, including 15 big tuna, we caught up above. "So many people put so much emphasis on their pile of fish at the dock," remarked Rothery. "It disgusts me." Rothery and his anglers consistently release many fish of all sizes. Charlie Middleton of San Pablo got two cows; one with a sardine and the biggest one on a chunk. His tuna weighed 201.4 and 245.6 pounds. He said he fished with 8/0 Gamakatsu hooks, 130-poudn Maxima line and 130-pound Spectra backing on a Penn 80 SW reel and a new Ugly Stick 130-pound class rod. "That rod works good," said Charlie, who got his smaller fish in only 15 minutes. Al Tokunaga of North Hollywood took a 232.4-pounder after a 30-minute tussle. He said the fish bit on a sardine pinned to a 9/0 Eagle Claw hook. He fished with 130-pound Momoi line and 130-pound Spectra, with a Cal Sheet-s prepped Penn 50 S reel and a Calstar 6455 XH rod. "I used an eight-ounce torpedo sinker attached with a rubber band," noted Al. "He bit right after daylight. They were down there about that time every day." Roger Brown of Riverside bagged a 210.9-pounder with a mackerel on a 6/0 ringed Super Mutu hook. He said he fished with 100-pound Jin Kai line and 130-pound Jerry Brown Line One Spectra on a Tiagra 50 W reel and a Calstar 6455 XH rod. Brown's fish was notable in that it fought for 35 minutes, and then pulled skipper Drew Henderson over the side when he single-gaffed it. They were both brought aboard without further incident. Rothery noted that he will be doing boat work from now until May 31, when he will begin his summer season of three to five-day trips.

The kids are getting picky! Today we spent our day offshore looking for kelps. We had outstanding fishing on the smaller Yellowfin Tuna even though we released most of them. Our main target today was trying to find some Dorado, and a couple kelps had just what we needed. We ended up with with an action-packed day of quality Dorado and small Yellowfin fishing. A great way to end the trip. full of action and a few bigger fish.
