I have the Apollo in Santa Barbara again for the spring Channel Islands season. We are chartered on most of our weekend dates but here are a few options if you would like to get out fishing with us while we are up north. First we have a 2-day charter coming this weekend (Sat and Sun March 29/30). This regular charter group only takes 15 people and they are short 2 spots. The Apollo is scheduled to run 1.5 Day Baja Rockfish trips. We are scheduled every weekend in February. You can book online via the Fisherman's Landing website or call the landing directly at (619) 221-8500.

Knowing how to tie your own hook and leader, having your own pair of pliers, and listening to the crew and making slight adjustments during the stop will keep you in the game. We recommend taking some time before you come out or on the way to the fishing grounds to practice tying on your hook/leader. Our crew members can inspect and show you the right way to do it so when we’re in a hot bite you’re ready for action.

Hi Anglers

Well I tried to get a hold of Drew since four this afternoon to no avail. And that's usually a good thing...and indeed it was. Finally at seven he picked up and said he was getting them good. He had 117 bluefin, and it was all that nicer 25-35 lb. grade. It's amazing this fishing has been going on since June. I hope I don't jinx myself here, but it looks like we're heading for a record year here on bluefin.

Hi friends. Different day for us here on the Supreme. After thumping and bumping our way up the line last night, we were pleasantly surprised to find decent weather when we put the lines in the water. Our weather just got progressively better and better throughout the day. Super good feelings about that, especially after yesterdays beating. Anyhow, the Bluefin tuna cooperated for us this morning and we produced on multiple drifts all the way until after lunch. The grade of fish was dandy; a lot of 25-40 pounders with a few bigger and few smaller in the mix, but for the most part, it was a nice quality of tuna that the gang threw aboard today and we deserved it.

Although we would've liked more to make up for yesterday, we're happy that the gang had some action and we're happy with the quality. We're also happy with Chef Schoolers Fillet Oscar that we haven't had in a few weeks. With that, we've put a bow on this 3-day adventure and are currently en route back to San Diego. Our ETA is looking like around 06:30 hours tomorrow. The boat turns around for Mr. Eric Roggers 5-day party cruise. Look for Captain Drew to man the helm and the keyboard. Take care, y'all.

Variety was the theme on our first 3 local fishing trips of the year. Yellowtail , bonito , halibut , calico bass , sand bass , sheephead , lingcod , red rock cod and rockfish were all part of our fish count the past few days. The highlight of our weekend was a yellowtail we caught Sunday morning that was every bit of 30 pounds. The best rigs were a dropper loop with 6 oz. torpedo sinker and a sliding egg sinker rig with a 3/4 oz. Our next trip is on Friday November 23. Call Seaforth at 619-224-3383 for reservations.

Bill Roecker spoke with Polaris Supreme owner-skipper Tommy Rothery as he was leaving his slip at 12:30 p.m. Tommy said and Fisherman's Landing spokesman Robert Falcon confirmed that the permits to fish Guadalupe Island for shark boats and long rangers have been obtained. The papers are being flown in from La Paz to Tijuana, and are expected to arrive at 1:30. They will be available at 3 p.m. today. One of four boats departing today, Rothery's Supreme will come back to pick them up, taking some out for the other three boats. The permits are good for two years.

36 yellowtail 95 reds 165 rockfish. Couple good shots at winter time yellowtail and plenty of taco meat for everyone.
