Polaris Supreme Mid Day Report

Wow what a morning. Crazy El Nino Generated Weather. Thunder Storms, Lightning Strikes next to the boat, Rain, Rain, Rain. There I said it El Nino! I don't know what everybody was waiting for. We have been driving around in 72 degree water for a month now its a steady 74 and pushing 80 east of Guadalupe Island. It's September 9th and we are catching yellowfin and bluefin 70 to 160 miles from San Diego with no signs of it slowing. Today, we have caught only rat Yellows so far but have high hopes for this afternoon.

Capt Mike Pritchard called in from the Tribute with an awesome early morning fish report, it is 9 am and we already have 47 Bluefin Tuna from 40 to just over 100lbs, and a few Yellowfin Tuna. What a way to start the day, if you coming out to fish, make sure your tackle is in good working order, this will prevent some heartbreaks. We recommend that you have at least a 40 lb set up, also, a special thanks to SAC for assisting in getting the Bluefin Tuna issue resolved with Mexican authorities. Hope to see you out here soon.

POLARIS SUPREME TRIP UPDATE FOR 11-02-2020 TO 11-07-2020 Well what have we been up to the last 6 days? We departed early on day zero, the Second in good weather and with a great group of passengers. The group is a composite of Jim Holeman's group , Stan Vanderburg's , Clarence Cole and friends and a few others. All solid fun anglers. On departure we loaded up some great looking sardines we hope to last 10 days. Stan spent the day passing out an unbelievable amount of give away's and setting up a prize of a rod and reel for the first tuna caught over 30 lbs and a reel for the the first wahoo caught on a home made lure. The weather was beautiful . Day one was a travel day spent doing our usual fishing seminar, Stan passing out more swag, rigging, eating and napping in good weather. Day two started off looking for kelp patty's holding Dorado and Wahoo. After a morning with no luck we deployed our own FAD ( Fish Aggregating Device) with a satellite buoy. Late in the day we got into good fishing on 12 to 40 pound Yellowfin tuna that saved the day. Day three wahoo fishing was pretty good and the tuna was in the 12 to 15 lb. range with no sign of the 20 to 40 lb. one's. Still great weather. Day four we where hoping for a repeat on the wahoo that didn't happen. Saddened by a Sukey morning we busted a move to check out our FAD. Holey Mollee 48 Hour's soaking and the thing was loaded with Dorado! We spent an hour or so catching and releasing before heading to some new tuna grounds. Some of you are wondering why we keep so few Dorado now days? Well you see 2 Dorado count as 5 fish in your over all fish count and most anglers only keep a couple if any at all choosing to catch and release. Arriving at the tuna grounds to slow fishing we where stoked to see it go wide open at dusk making it a great Tuna Dorado day in Slick Calm Weather. Day five making a big move today! Scratched a few Tuna this morning and hit the road trying to beat the massive storm hitting California. Weather is still OK. Will check in in a few days. Polaris Supreme Trip Update 11-13-13

 

Today was a travel/fishing day which means it was slow. We knew we needed another travel day to get where we need to be so we fished yesterday and traveled today as opposed to fishing today and traveling yesterday. We tried really hard though to find something to catch but it was not to be. It wasn't until around snack time before we found any action at all but it wasn't much. We caught 1 big dorado and 1 not so big dorado, lost a couple of wahoo and caught some mostly let them go to grow sized tuna. We'll be in the promise grounds well before daylight and hopefully that's when the fish start biting tomorrow. The weather came down significantly from yesterday and it's currently grease as I write this.

 

P.S. The Mystery writer will be back tomorrow, he needed a little rest.

Nov. 14

                We had very good wahoo fishing today. We caught a lot of wahoo.  You don't see it much better then what we had today.  At least for a few hour window there.  We got our scratch on early, then we got our catch on mid to early afternoon, and then we went back to scratching till dark.  It was good.  I think I may of seen it better, I probably have in 15 years but this was pretty darn close to as good as I've seen, again, at least for that few hour window mid morning. 

 

                As much as myself and the rest of everyone on board would love to stay here another day, the wind is coming.  We'd have good weather tomorrow but we'd have to seriously pay for it on the ride home if we stayed.  So we're headed across to the Cedros area and we're expecting good weather during the ride across.  Who knows, maybe we'll find a kelp for some dorado and more wahoo tomorrow morning.  If not, we should be fishing for yellows by or after lunch tomorrow. 

                                                                                               

Hi friends. Our first day of the Garry Roberts 9-day adventure found us conveniently traveling right through the Bluefin/Yellowfin zone first thing this morning, so we decided to give it a try for a few hours and then we would continue on with our southerly travels. We managed to troll up a few Yellowfin and we also found a couple spots of 12-18 lb. Bluefin that bit quite well for a short time. After tagging some fish and capturing a handful for the galley guys to sashimi up, we continued on with our journey down to greater points south. A nice warm-up for the guys and a nice break in the long travel days on 9-day tripsthat usually go without even wetting a line for a couple of days. The gang appreciated it very much and were stoked with the outcome of some fresh sashimi for the next few days.

After the fishing was all said and done, we gathered everyone into the galley for our tackle seminar. Another thing fishing this morning was good for was to get a gauge on whether or not the gang remembered the fishing procedures we employ here on the Polaris Supreme. To say they passed with flying colors is an understatement but we called the troops into the galley for the seminar anyways and with one look around the tables and salon area, it was apparent that an in-depth seminar was not needed not only because all of the passengers are on this very trip year after year but because half of the anglers began taking full advantage of the seminar with a good nap. All of the passengers on-board are Polaris Supreme veterans of many years, and I mean all of the passengers. These guys know what's up so we made quick work of the seminar and began the tackle rigging, eating, watching movies, reading, various maintenance projects, and napping. Awesome traveling weather made for a relaxing, laid back day of preparation and last minute check-ups.

As for tomorrow, we'll be offshore looking at some interesting looking water temperature breaks for kelp paddies, porpoise, breezers, and any other signs of life holding Yellowfin, Wahoo, Dorado, and Yellowtail. The weather forecast looks good and we're excited about the prospects of tomorrow. Wish us luck and we'll report back to you tomorrow.

P.S. Layni - Your Dad either can't find the package, left it in Timmy's car, left it in his truck, or just forgot to pack it. Kind of bummed. Anyhow, we just wanted to say hi that gang misses you.

There were many schools around and it took a lot of work but we got them to play!  There are Yellowfin Tuna schools and Kelp patty Yellowtail in the area as well.

We were able to get a great evening hit on the 60-100lb Bluefin.
