Polaris Supreme Report 07-22-2016 Happy Friday everyone! We elected to stay the night at the same place as yesterday, in hopes of another action packed day of yellowtail fishing . We got the anchor down and started fishing around 5:30, to stage ourselves for the morning hit. As the misty morning came upon us we began to hook some nice yellowtail. We were finally starting to hit our stride when the fish quit biting. As the sky cleared it seemed as the yellows did too. We tried several spots that amounted to a slow pick throughout the day. Unfortunately we finished off the day without the wall to wall action yellowtail hit we were hoping for. However we still scratched up some quality fish. We feel very fortunate to have had such a great day of fishing yesterday. After fishing hard into the early afternoon we finally set a course for Point Loma to and wrap up this great 5 day trip. We have smooth sailing for the ride up and are looking at 7:00 am at the dock. We currently have a four day online departing August 2nd that still has a couple openings. ~~Aug. 28
 It was a busy morning for us today but a kick back afternoon. For the second time this year we are not fishing on our departure day. We did the usual turn around throwing in an oil and fuel filter change. We offloaded, then onloaded and then we took off before lunch. The bait was OK. It looked great but lost some scales putting it in our tanks. We'll see how it likes 80+ degree water in a couple of days. I decided to skip this 30 mile yellowfin zone today and get down below while we have a window of good hurricaneless weather. There will be some wind the next couple of days everywhere but should come down nicely for a week or so everywhere if the forecast holds true. I'm still not sure where we're starting yet this trip. We'll either head straight to the rocks or drag our feet for a day and wait for the weather to get pristine. For now there is some napping going on and just some old fashioned kicking back. Something we haven't seen a whole lot of this year as it has been straight to fishing out of the gates.
 

Late Post .... Sorry my Internet was dead today. Captain Mike Pritchard called in this morning with good fishing. He had 53 fish of the kelps by 9 AM.

  We had a bumpy ride last night.  It was windy.  So we didn't make the best of speed which translates to not having a whole lot of time to fish our last day when we were coming from so far away.  We found our edge pretty quick after daylight and we were getting a few strikes on small tuna but like I said, we didn't have a lot of time to fish it.  We were able to follow it up the line for a couple of hours getting the occasional strike before we had to call it a day and call it a trip.

 

 

  

The weather has been getting progressively nicer throughout the day and now we have a pretty darn good ride.  Everyone is doing what you do on travel days.  We had a nice fish taco lunch and last time I was in the galley the passengers were taking it way back and were watching the  90's classic "Deep Color" movie staring Tommy Rothery and the Polaris Supreme.

  We'll be in bright and early tomorrow and we're going to be turning back around on another 5 day trip.  Tommy will be going home and I'll be taking her out.  Gunny is hanging in there strong like the Marine he is and we're hoping he'll be back within a month.
           

Captain Jodie Morgan called in with a wrap up from their recent 2 day trip last night. We had 75 Bluefin Tuna (in the 30 to 40 pound class), 63 Yellowtail, and a Dorado. We have a 2.5 day trip departing Sunday night with open spots. The trip is $625 and includes your meals and permits. Call Fisherman's Landing at (619) 221-8500 to get in on the action.

Today on the San Diego, 28 passengers got their Mexican limits of Yellowtail, hooked some Dorado.

Just returned from guadelupe and had full limits of yellowfin tuna to 90# along with some absolutely beautiful guadelupe grade yellowtail from 35 to 44 #s. With good weather to boot. A good trime was had by all. We have a spot open on a 5 day leaving on Nov 07 Returning on the 12th. 12 people $ 1500. Please call the landing at 619 221 8500.
