Captain Ryan Bostian called in the evening. Today we had 61 Yellowtail. The fishing down there at the Coronado Islands is phenomenal. We have been catching between 50 and 178 Yellowtail per day. They are biting on all techniques: Yoyo fishing, Fly-lined Sardines, and Surface Iron too. I have a little web-site update for you. We have put all of our photos from the past years, into albums on the photo page. As you will see they are categorized by year first, then the date of the trip, then the group. In the past they have all been grouped together in one big mess. Hopefully this will help you find the trip you were on in the past years. Also you will be able to more easily create your own photo albums for the trips you were on. A new update on offshore fishing. Last weekend's 2-day trip was a huge success targeting the big bluefin. Drew and the boys got the anglers into the fish at 150 miles and had a five hour long drift where they hooked over fifty 65-75 pound bluefin! When the dust settled they had 23 of these beauties on deck. They also picked up seven smaller grade bluefin and a few of the small yellows. For those of you going out on upcoming trips you defiantly need the usual 50 lb. 2-speed reel. Some of the guys also had 40 lb. 2-speeds and it was the true money maker for this bigger fish. It was the best of both worlds having lighter line that got bit better and the 2-speed that really let then put the  pressure on the fish after the initial run. So put one in your bag.

Also yesterday fish popped up in good volume closer to home at 70-100 miles. We are watching this to see how this develops for the shorter trips. Hopefully we won't have to make the 120-150 mile run. Nov. 11

                Not a very good day for us today.  I wish I could call it a travel day too but we did a lot of fishing, just not catching.  Well, we did need to travel for 4 hours of the day to put us in position for tomorrow, so maybe I can call it a travel day.  Anyways, the weather today was pretty crappy when I first woke up and not much better when we arrived to our first fishing destination of the day at 7:00 AM.  That could be why the wahoo weren't there and biting.  But after 3 hours there, the weather was nice.  The wind backed off and the ocean flattened out.  Unfortunately 12 miles below there the current did a 180 and the wind picked up a little and things got jacked up.  The swell and chop were coming from every which way and we couldn't pick a smooth course.  We got our roll on for most the rest of the day.  Spot #2 looked like we could've caught a bunch of nice yellers but the skip jack wouldn't let us have any of it.  They were hitting everything we threw in.  That's alright though.  We needed the chunk for tomorrow.  We did get a few nice yellows though.

 

                After that we had a delicious cheeseburger and some took a nap during our 20 mile move.  I had high hopes for this place but it was not to be so we threw in the towel a bit before dark to make sure we give ourselves plenty of time to get to our next destination.  We'll be hunting for cows tomorrow.  We need a little luck and by that I mean good timing.  The fish need to be on the bank tomorrow for us because above here didn't seem like the answer for the last couple of days. 

 

                Mama Bear: Though we only caught a few wahoo today, your little rascal caught one of them.  His first wahoo.  I guess the ritual for that is a deck hose soaking?  I never heard of that but he got a drenching after that one.

Skipper JJ Gerritsen returned with his Apollo to Fisherman's Landing November 21, after an eight-day, ultra-limited trip. The boat's ten passengers fished Guadalupe Island before taking off for Magdalena Bay to fish big tuna on their final day. "All of our long range trips are ultra-limited," said JJ. "It takes away competition factors, we won't do more than ten passengers. We got limits of yellowfin, Guadalupe's been great our last six trips, but we did something different this time; we headed out for a shot at these big ones. All of our fish are kept in refrigerated saltwater, so they still look great." Matt Bowland of Encinitas took home the best tuna; a 224-pound yellowfin that fought "long and hard." Matt used a 6/0 Owner ringed Super Mutu hook, on an 80-pound P-Line topshot, 100-pound Spectra, a Tiagra 30 reel and a Calstar Grafighter 765 H rod. "I butt-hooked the sardine," said Matt. "The fight lasted two and a half hours." Drew Card of San Diego was second with a 196-pound tuna, and Craig Biddick of Rancho Santa Fe was third for a 164-pounder.

Capt Matt has called in an early report of 20 bluefin and 10 yellowtail with 5 fish still hanging. Spots are going fast so make those resos. Passports are required for all trips that fish within 12 miles of Mexican Territory. The Coronado Islands fall into that category.

April 17 & 18, 2013

Wednesday (the 17th) we had 10-11 Tuna in the 110-197 lb range and 12 wahoo. This morning we so far we have 8 tuna in the same range as yesterday, and 2 wahoo. Conditions are still good and we are having fun with the kite fishing. Yesterday we had some wind, and today's forecast is to be more, but so far we are having good weather. Hope it keeps up.

The Polaris Supreme Crew

The San Diego fisnihed with 63 yellowtail and few other odds and ends. A few quick opportunities today.

Hello Supreme fans, Today we had a great day of fishing on quality Wahoo and some nice Yellowtail mixed in. The yellows were a great surprise, but didn't come without many casualties. The yellows were big and strong, they had a mission for the rocks from where they came. Rocking many individuals. If they however were lucky enough to make past the rocks the sharks were waiting eagerly above to get their chance at our prized yellowtail. Needless to say the fish that made it through the gantlet were big and highly celebrated. All and all a well rounded and exciting day. Large Wahoo and Yellows were there for the taking. It was very exciting trying to get the targeted fish on the boat through all the obstacles the sea had to throw at us! Cannot wait for tomorrow! tight lines, Team Supreme
