Polaris Supreme Report 07-14 -2016 #2 Well our yellowtail bite we had going on this morning never ended. It lasted almost 12 hours. Constant action all day long! Surface iron fish was insane! Everything we threw at them pretty much got bit. What a day and what an amazing grade these fish where! Definitely the best yellowtail fishing we have had this year! The plan for tomorrow is to use this beautiful weather to our advantage to hopefully load up on some Tuna! We take a lot of pictures during the duration of every trip and some of them don't make it into these reports.  Slow morning, strong afternoon was how the fishing went down today.  We had 2 fish by lunch time and I was feeling the pressure.  Thankfully at noon the sonar went boom boom and we went sideways for a few hours.  Let me try and give you a picture of how things looked out here.  The fishing was wide open on a mixed school of skipjack and yellowfin.  We had 23 passengers and basically 23 rent rods.  Chaos out here on the Polaris Supreme.  And by chaos I mean fun, fun, fun.  At any given time we had half the passengers with fish on while the other half were tying on hooks.  It was pretty funny looking at 12 people at a time in the center of the boat tying on hooks.  Usually our customers have 10+ rods with hooks on them ready to go but all our anglers had one.

 Here is how I describe stand up tuna fishing.  It's not like freshwater angling.  Freshwater angling is more like an art.  It can be very peaceful and relaxing.  You use light tackle and  finesse.  With stand up tuna fishing, we can hook 24 fish at one time with every fish swimming a different direction with every crew member screaming out directions.  Gaffs are flying, reels are screaming and lines are snapping and it's some of the funnest $%^& in the world.  That's what today made me want to write.  We had a good time.

 We're on our way in already and we leave again tomorrow for 8 days.  See you then.
         

Another day of albacore fishing was productive again today. We had a little over a hundred today but seemed we should of had a lot more. A lot of non biting schools. Where have we seen that before all year? Oh yeah, right there. We're now heading to the south to fish offshore kelps for yellows and dorado. Weather is good. A big ground swell but not much wind on it. Lunch was awesome, some sort of salmon dish and dinner I couldn't even name so I won't try but it was fantastic. By the way, the albacore are all fatties. 30-40 pounders.

We just received word from the county that we are clear to go fishing starting tomorrow We will be fishing offshore for tuna and yellowtail. Please bring a 25 lb bait rod a 40 or 50 lb bait rod and a then a setup capable of landing a 100+ pound fish. Assorted circle hooks and some fluorocarbon. Oct. 5

I'm lying. Its actually Oct. 6 as I write this. It's Drew here, back from a few trips spent on land and fresh out for a healthy 40 day stretch. It appears I have some large shoes to fill as Cap. Richie has been putting the wood to the tuna fish out here lately. Well mother nature welcomed me back with some wind. Thanks mom. We arrived to the fishing grounds we chose to start about an hour ago and threw out the sea anchor in hopes that the tuna will find us rather then vice versa. It's easier that way when you have the wind like we do and if the tuna do find us it will be much more comfortable with the bow to the wind like it is with the chute out. We'll know the answer to that in about an hour or more. Baits o.k. There is much more sardine alive this morning then I thought there would be. So that's it. There's a dorado swimming around out my wheelhouse window so I'm going to go make someone catch it.

The annual Burgesons private charter went the distance today. They were rewarded with limits of dorado and 13 yellowfin tuna.

Captain Mike Pritchard called in from the Tribute this afternoon. We have had very good Yellowfin Tuna fishing. We have over 130 Yellowfin Tuna and a lot of Yellowtail and Dorado.
