salmon Fishing Report 2025

Today we went out on a hunt for the “catchable” grade bluefin. After a couple hours of searching our efforts were rewarded as we landed 13 (50-80 lb) bluefin. Be prepared to fly line with 40 lb as well as fish a sinker rig on 50 or 60 lb. size 1/0 circle hooks on your fly line rod. Size 2/0 or 3/0 on your sinker rig. Always a good idea to bring a 25lb rod just in case we get a yellowfin stop.

170 yellowfin 93 skipjack. Good weather and great fishing, didn’t feel like November today.

The San Diego out of Seaforth Landing in San Diego,CA checked in with us today:

2 yellowtail 18 lingcod 57 rockfish. 8 and half hours of banging our sonar off the rocks resulted in 1 school. Today’s results have zero influence on tomorrow’s.

Capt Ryan Bostian checked in from the San Diego as they wrapped up their trip of 5::30 am to 5:30 pm full day trip, we ended the day with Mexican limits of Yellowtail for out 9 anglers. Yes we went out with 9 anglers, it has been light loads and looks like it will be that way all week. Today was a really nice change of pace as we dropped anchor and never had to move, and we had 1 - 4 hanging at all times today. The fish today averaged from 15 to 25 lb, the flylined baits and the surface irons worked really well today. We will be running everyday this year and the fishing has been really fun. Wish you could have been there, if the boat is still floating then we will be running.

Well, fishing was cut short as we had to perform an emergency air evacuation for a passenger. Coast Guard did their job with perfection and the reports are the passenger is going to be ok.

Some blue fin were caught for the day and a yellow fin. We will be back at the dock tomorrow and head out on Joe Beck's 5 day on Monday. We still have some open spots on his trip and a couple on the father/son, father/daughter trip with Larry Brown on June 14th. Give Susan a call if you can come out and join us.

23 yellowtail and plenty of bottom grabbers. Full sized yo-yo jigs on 40-50lb line worked best.

Hey guys, after two weeks of fishing for yellowtail in U.S. waters, we have now decided to head back down to the Coronado Islands. We have still been seeing plenty of yellows in the local waters but they just have not got with it like we wanted them to. Yellowtail have been spotted from the rockpile to Catalina island over the past week. I honestly feel that the Coronado Islands is going to be our best bet at finding some yellowtail that want to bite well. Our first trip to the islands is tomorrow, Friday 27th. "What an absolutely, fantastic, unbelievable day," wrote Tommy Rothery aboard his Polaris Supreme November 2. "We had more marlin than you can imagine. We hooked and are released over 220. The wahoo fishing was also fantastic. The group had a blast pulling in "crocodile" size wahoo. And we topped off the day with even bigger dorado than yesterday. The weather is good and we just had an awesome day on all three: wahoo, dorado and marlin." The next day Rothery wrote, "Well if we thought yesterday was phenomenal, today was even better. I know I'm repeating myself but the fishing was just great again on the wahoo and dorado. And yes, the marlin are still here and wanted to play. We have good weather and this is a nice way to end the trip. Great group, great fishing, great crew." Rothery docked at Fisherman's Landing November 6 after his Larry Brown charter with 22 anglers. "The place was thick with marlin," he remarked. "There's lots of bait and the water where we're fishing is 78 to 79 degrees." Dr. Chris Minnick of Pasadena won first place for a 71.6-pound yellowfin. He said he bagged it in about ten minutes,, after it bit on a sardine pinned to a 3/0 Hayabusa hook. He used 60-pound Soft Steel Ultra line and 80-pound Izorline Spectra backing on an Avet EXW 4-2 reel and a Calstar 765 L rod.
Mike Mayes of Rnancho Santa Margarita won second place for a 54.6-pound wahoo. Ron Stafford of Minot, ND won third place for a 53-pound yellowfin tuna. A gentleman identified as "Duke" posed in the lineup shot with a typical dorado from the trip.
