clackamas Fishing Report 2024

Where'd they go?? We got a few wahoo today, but nothing like yesterday. Our day consisted of scratching away at yellowfin, yellowtail, pargo, dorado, and wahoo on some different spots. Don't get me wrong. It was not a bad day fishing, just not like yesterday. Our weather is still good. Actually it's too hot, the water is 83 degrees. Not bad for the fish, but warm for us. Tomorrow we will be off shore kelping for wahoo, dorado and tuna until it's time to head home and wind up this fantastic trip. It's going to be a great fall season. Thanks for checking in. We stopped the boat once today and didn’t move until it was time to go home. We ended up with 123 yellowfin 53 bluefin. Live bait has been best but we had our fair share of bites on the Shimano colt sniper. 100 gram was the best size.

Hi friends. We had ourselves a pretty eventful day for a rather slow day of Yellowtail fishing. I'm not going to lie; I think the entire crew had visions of hundred-plus fish drifts and not looking at breezers of non-biting fish, but rather breezers of snappin' fish. Well, the Bluefin worked their magic on our favorite Yellowtail hole and the Yellowtails acted just like Bluefin all day. We saw multiple breezers and we'd be lucky to capture two or three fish. We did have one nice drift this morning but for the most part we just picked and scratched to make a score. But, we did what we had to and made a day of it.

Other notable events of the day: We started bronzing at 0622 hours, it was sunny and toasty out for the majority of the day. We also caught and released about a dozen Black Sea Bass, we had a nice snap on the Calicos, Stephen Pistone took a sabiki rig hook to the finger, and Mark did everything that you would expect of Mark. I'll just leave it at that.

Anyhow, we're on our way up to finish off our trip at the Bluefin grounds and Chef Shabba and Shawn are kicking out sesame seared Ahi with fried rice and veggies. Tasty. Just got a call from the boat. They have 23 yellowtail on the boat so far.

I have always felt that it takes 3 full days to give the Coronado Islands a thorough check. Today was day # 1 and we caught 31 bonito and 100 rockfish. Spent a lot of time looking for yellowtail and never found anything substantial. Saturday is a definite go with a light load at this time.

Mike Pritchard called in with this report for the Tribute. "We're off to a great start here this morning. We made a move down to the Yellowfin grounds that really paid off. We have over 150 Yellowfin tuna on the boat this morning. To that you can add 150 Yellowtail. We'll keep you updated as the day progresses.

"We're leaving on a 1 Day trip tomorrow night. I know some Bluefin have been caught locally. It's a good time to go fishing. There is still very good fishing to be had. Hope to see you on the water."

Captain Ryan Bostian called in late tonight with an update from their most recent trip to the Coronado Islands. We have been fishing in shallow water and it is creating a high causality rate. The majority of our fish have been caught on a fly lined bait. We recommend a short top shot of Blackwater Fluro. We are also catching some fish on Yo Yo irons and Surface Irons too. The majority of the fish are in the 20 to 25 pound class but today we did catch a few 10 pounders.
