Good Morning everyone, Today we departed on our Simpatico 6 day charter. We hustled and had a nice early start to our trip. We decided to start fishing kelp patties for Dorado and Yellowfin. We found a school of Dorado that bit extremely well. They were a bit on the small side, but the action was RED HOT none the less. Tomorrow we are hoping for Tuna. Wish us luck, Team Supreme

Friday, July 26th, 2013

Hi friends. Tough day out here for us on the local Bluefin grounds. The weather gave us fits all day but we did manage to get a few handfuls of Bluefin this morning and a few off of a kelp later in the day. There's not too much to say about what happened today. The weather made things rather sporty but we gave it our all and are happy that we at least had a few stops to show for our efforts. The gang hung tough and we appreciate that from them. They definitely treated the last day like the first.

At around 18:00 hours, we had to call it a trip and begin our end of the trip chores. Chef Shawn just kicked out the Fillet Mignon and crab cakes, Tommy put the slide show on the 50" flat screen, and we enjoyed our final dinner together. Paul's group is always a pleasure to fish/dine/chat with and we had a ball once again. We'd like to say thanks to Paul and company for being the bomb.

Anyhow, our ride is decent as we travel up towards home. We'll be into the docks at 06:00 hours and the guys will be turning around for another 5-day adventure. Look for Drew's reports to be sent out tomorrow evening. Take care.

Sep. 8

We woke up this morning on the drift. I heard Tommy doing the stop and go on his watch early in the morning meaning he was seeing schools. He woke the rest of us up bright and early and it didn't take too long before we started hooking fish. They were the 15-18 pound bluefin and they weren't biting as well as you'd think they would judging by all the fish around the boat. We kept drifting though trying the patient mode. It's a lot easier to be patient with non biting fish when the other boats aren't getting stops. After a while and a few handfuls of BFT we gave up on these fish and went searching for some new ones. It took a while but around lunch time we found a nice big fat kelp and it was an aquarium underneath. Good viewing and catching on lot's of different fish from small throwback yellowtail to small tuna and tuna up to 32 pounds and lots of dorado. Yes it's that time of year. The water warmed up considerably in the last week or so and with that came schools of yellowfin and now the dorado in numbers. We'll take um. Crowd pleaser's is what they are and you know us, we like to please crowds. After a couple hours fishing there we went searching for something new unsuccessfully so we ended up back on our kelp and caught some more dorado and a few more tuna. We're now headed for the yellowtail grounds and everyone is fat and happy and we're planning on some good pulling on big yellows tomorrow.

I ate the escolar again substituting it for the prime rib in the fajitas we had for lunch today. It was smooth sailing John and I mean that in a good way. No problems down there. The fish isn't the best fish in the ocean. The flavor is great though the texture is a bit soft. Opening day for pro football so I'll leave you with this. Go Chargers! Let's do some competing this year. My Pad's couldn't do it so now it's up to you guys. Come on now!

Polaris Supreme Trip Update 07-05-12

      

       We departed yesterday afternoon on a 1 1/2 day charter we picked up at the last minute so we are a little behind on our reports. When we left the dock with our 4 anglers the outlook was semi promising. There was one boat with 15 of the large bluefin late in the day at 150 miles and signs of 20 to 30 pound fish at 120 miles but it wasn’t biting. We woke this morning to find the ocean flat and calm as could be with spots of breaking 20 to 30 pound bluefin signaling us to stop. And stop we did and where rewarded with a hook up all the way around for every one on deck (all 3). The bottom line on our day was limits of small yellowtail and every one caught a couple of bluefin each except 1 angler only landed one. That’s 20 yellowtail and 7 bluefin, most of which was caught in the afternoon at 120 miles. The gang all had an excellent time and we would like to thank them all. This area has defiantly fallen apart and Drew and the boys will be taking you guys going out tomorrow farther south on your 2 day trip tomorrow so don't be late he will leave as soon as you all get down to the boat and ck in 11:00 am or sooner. The killer bluefin fishing right now is at 250 miles with the upper end being at 180 miles. You guys should be below 180 miles if you can clear the dock buy 12:00. So don't be late. This fishing in the 250 mile zone is insane. The best bluefin fishing in years if want to jump on a 2 to 5 day and target this fish call Susan at the Polaris Supreme office. June 28

I told you all we would be departing today on a 5 day trip on my last report and I have to tell yah, that's exactly what we did. We're out on a private charter with Mr. Pfleger and some of his boys. Things went alright at the bait receivers. We got two boxes of a mostly spanish mackerel with some greenies and about a 7.375 average of sardines mixed in. Things are looking a little scary with our sardine stocks of San Diego this year thus far. You may want to make sure you pack your bait catching rigs if you're coming out this year and also think about getting your anchovy fishing skills back. You may need them.

We're thinking about starting offshore tomorrow on a southerly track. We're not going to put the brakes on and fish locally where most the tunas been caught lately. We're going to put ourselves in position to do other things the next couple days after tomorrow. We may look for white sea bass and yellows somewhere down the line. It's not something we'd do on a normal long range trip but this is a special one. I'll explain later. You know how Pfleger is with his sea bass.

Tommy's running the boat but I'll still be your author so enjoy and I'll see you tomorrow.

 

We had a slow morning here at the Ridge, but the afternoon provided us with a good bite on the yellowtail up to 30 lbs. The weather is still absolutely beautiful. Those of you that know me, know I never eat breakfast, but I thought I would check it out as I am always reporting on the lunch and dinners. Well breakfast today was a stack of buttermilk pancakes, slab of honey cooked bacon and eggs cooked to your order. I still didn't eat, but the guys all said it was delicious. We have a couple more days here to fish and then we are in on Sunday and departing on South Bay Fish and Tackle's 6-day charter.
There is still one spot on that trip, and a couple on the Sept. 22 if you can get away.
