toolondo Fishing Report 2024

Captain Ryan Bostian called in late tonight with an update from their most recent trip to the Coronado Islands. We have been fishing in shallow water and it is creating a high causality rate. The majority of our fish have been caught on a fly lined bait. We recommend a short top shot of Blackwater Fluro. We are also catching some fish on Yo Yo irons and Surface Irons too. The majority of the fish are in the 20 to 25 pound class but today we did catch a few 10 pounders. This past week has been all about chasing yellowtail. The amount of yellowtail we have been seeing at the Coronado Islands has been very impressive. The fish counts have not been a representation of how much fish is in the water. Stopping on a school of 300 yellowtail and only hooking 1 has become very common. On Friday we managed to catch 30 yellowtail and Saturday produced 20. These fish are still running in the 20-30 pound range with multiple fish over 30 in the past week. Fly lined sardines on 30 lb. yo-yo lures on 40 or 50 lb. as well as surface iron on 40 lb. have all been producing fish. These yellowtail have been a challenge to hook mainly because of all the bait in the water. When some of the bait goes away and these fish settle in. 50 to 100 fish days will become common. Hi friends. I just want to start off by saying that Travis Donahue our new best friend. That guy gets on the boat and the Bluefin just are drawn to this guy. He's been on the boat three times this year already and every time he's out, the Bluefin bite. It's truly amazing. This trip was no exception as he tagged along with Garth and the boys from Optima and we had ourselves a good day on 15-30 lb. Bluefin. The other boats in the area struggled but we filled the box a few times on a couple of stops and we also managed to catch three thirty pound Yellowfin off of a kelp along with some Yellowtail. Like I said, it wasn't for everyone out here but thankfully, we had Travis on the boat and everything was just fine for us on the Supreme. We also had awesome weather to round out a fun day of fishing and we're currently en route back to San Diego. We'll be back to the docks tomorrow morning around 0900 hours.     I'm pretty sure I have written a report very similar to this one not too long ago but here we go anyways.  We had a good morning and a good evening today.  It was the in between part that stunk for us.  It was a long afternoon but you always forget about the afternoon when you're pulling on fish into dark.  I don't even remember anymore.  Anyways we ended up with just shy of a hundred tuna for the day and we're going to drift all night and start where we end up in the morning.  We will be drifting because it is fantastic weather and we don't need to put out the sea anchor or idle up and down swell all night because it's good drifting.

 

Make sure to start looking for father son, father daughter, mother son, mother daughter, or any combination trip!

We departed today with nine anglers on a private 17 day charter. The bait we picked up is ok and the weather is beautiful. We dined on a wonderful roasted veal chop and are excited as the outlook from down below sounds great! Thanks for checking in. We'll keep you updated.

We fished our first day of the 5 day offshore kelp hunting. We saw plenty of kelps most having mucho yellowtail and mucho dorado on them. Unfortunately they were not in the moods to eat. We scratched out 60 mixed fish for our efforts today. We're heading for Benitos Island to fish for the night and at least a few hours in the morning. If it doesn't look good we will shoot down to the next island, Cedros.
