hepburn lagoon Fishing Report 2025

July 7

Today was kind of a disapointing day for me. I had plans of having good fishing in the morning at Cedros then heading to Benitos and having descent fishing there. Well the water got funky on us due to the big south swell that was pushed up from the tropical storm that rode it's way up. It was a green green green and the yellows didn't like it. They were still there like they had been for the last week but they didn't bite well. After 4 1/2 hours we gave up on it and went with plan b. We arrived at Benitos after lunch and I will say we saw a good amount of fish all over the island. The problem was the sea lion population. Those things are out of control right now. It's wierd how it works at that island. Sometimes they're tolerable and sometimes they're not. Today they were not. We're headed back to Cedros now and we'll give it another chance tomorrow. This south swell seemed to back off some late today so hopefully there is some strong current through the night tonight to flush all that icky water out of there.

I just reread what I wrote and it sounds worse than it was. We scratched out an ok day. We averaged over 3 fish per rod. Compared to the last week it was slow but back up further and we had a stellar day. See you tomorrow.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 08-26-2016 Good evening and thanks for checking in. We started this morning at our chosen destination only to find rather unfavorable conditions due to cold water. Looking past that, we still gave it our efforts and ended up getting a few on board. We finally decided after a couple hours that the colder water just wasn't going to work, we chose to make a move to another area a few hours a way and take a look around. Low and behold, there happened to be even colder water there. Needless to say, there was no stopping, so we just continued on to the west . It didn't to take long to find absolutely gorgeous, more than fishable waters. We spent the rest of the afternoon hitting a line of beautiful size kelps scratching away at good grade Dorados and yellows. We'll travel overnight to the tuna grounds with hopes of shutting down on that one glory school to finish out the trip in style. Today we had some fun fishing on the small yellowfin (released) and yellowtail up to 22 pounds. Our new guys Jim and Gunnar got the kinks out. Rack of lamb for dinner and off to bed to get ready for some hopefully great fishing tomorrow.

Polaris Supreme Trip Update 11-19-2019 Well fishing was pretty darn good today! Just not for us. Our passengers are pretty well fixed up on yellowfin tuna, some people just kept Five or six and Released the rest and some people kept 14 over the last four days. So we decided to go look for Dorado and Wahoo on kelp patties. And let me tell you it didn't work out! As close as we got was one dead turtle with one single Dorado swimming around it. The boat we left behind, where we were fishing tuna in the morning ended up having a phenomenal day before we got back there late in the afternoon. That's how I know it was good fishing! We had good weather today looking but it didn't help a whole lot. Tomorrow we going to go spend about four hours looking for yellowtail to wind up the trip. Our efforts on the Dorado was just in the wrong direction. One boat found an excellent school 40 miles to the northwest of us on a dead seal. Another boat had beautiful bull Dorado fishing 60 miles to the southeast of us today. It just wasn't meant to be for us! So off we go! we will report from the yellowtail grounds tomorrow. We are dragging our feet behind the storm here we don't want to drive up into it. Our weather has been good to excellent the whole trip. The Polaris Supreme Crew!

Wednesday, August 29th, 2012

Hi friends. We made it back up to the tuna grounds at first light and found absolutely beautiful weather and the "football" yellowfin tuna were hungry today. Steady jig strikes all morning all the way up until we found a kelp that accounted for most of our score on this day. It was a really fun kelp too. You could look in the water and see brown for most of the stop and these fish were on the squid real nice and the skip jig as well. Kub Ito even got in on some hand-line action which was pretty entertaining. Speaking of Kub, Kub had ten minutes of hardhat time for two minor offenses. Good job, Kubby bear. Anyhow, fun morning of fishing and flat calm, sunny weather to boot. A fine way to end a fine trip and Joe Beck and the boys are pumped.

Anyhow, we're traveling up the line in a very calm ocean and we're looking to arrive to the docks at 0600 where we will be getting the boat turned around and heading out on our annual Gary Roberts 9-day trip. We'll chat with you tomorrow evening sometime. Take care.

P.S. Absolutely no hardhat time for Mark this trip. Shocking, I know. Granted he was in the galley this trip but nonetheless, he was on the boat. Good job, Mark. You now have nine days to reclaim that beautiful yellow dome of yours. Stay tuned.

A very slow pick turned into full speed chaos. 230 yellowfin 6 bluefin (40-60lbs).

9 yellowtail and plenty of shallow water white meat. Private charter tomorrow then back to open party Tuesday-Thursday.
