west okoboji Fishing Report 2025

Report 7-23-2016 Good Evening everyone. We cleared the point today around 1 o clock with a beautiful load of mid sized sardines. Immediately we were in the midst of a weird local weather system consisting of a unusual south wind and a choppy south swell. The conditions made it a little rough for the first hour or so, but then started to calm down and we eventually we settled into a nice downhill ride for dinner. Coincidentally around dinner time we came across a couple schools of yellowfin tuna. We made a quick drift before first call and was able to hook and land one. We may have only landed one but the grade of the fish was excellent. A solid 18 lb Tuna, a very refreshing grade of fish compared to the 10 ponders we have been seeming earlier this summer. Hopefully there is something to this and it builds into a legitimate biting school of fish. Very excited to see what the next few days hold. Unfortunately our second to none fish care had the fish spiked, bled, and into the frigid RSW fish hold before the camera was able to make its way down from the wheelhouse. So no picture was taken.We are traveling down tomorrow and will start fishing bright and early.Wish us luck!Team supreme

Hello Everyone, Today we spent the day targeting the larger Tuna, Yellowtail, Wahoo, and Grouper. We were able to pick the 20-30 lb Yellowfin Tuna for most of the day. There was also some nicer Yellowtail caught on occasion as well. We caught a few Wahoo, but the volume was not around today like we wanted. We are headed up in hopes of big Yellowtail tomorrow. Capt Mike Pritchard called in for the Tribute, absolutely excellent Bluefin Tuna fishing again today. We ended the day with 136 Bluefin Tuna, 36 Yellowtail and 82 giant Bonito, we had very success with the kite today. We are going to continue with our trips as long as these fish are around, we can let it go! We are changing some of our weekend trips and now will be headed out to either Cortez Banks or Tanner Banks where ever the Bluefin are. We departed today with nine anglers on a private 17 day charter. The bait we picked up is ok and the weather is beautiful. We dined on a wonderful roasted veal chop and are excited as the outlook from down below sounds great! Thanks for checking in. We'll keep you updated.

Today we spent our day offshore looking for kelps. We had outstanding fishing on the smaller Yellowfin Tuna even though we released most of them.Our main target today was trying to find some Dorado, and a couple kelps had just what we needed. We ended up with with an action packed day of quality Dorado and small Yellowfin fishing. A great way to end the trip. full of action and a few bigger fish.

Good fishing in the morning with 70 to 100 pound fish. Most again were released. Late in the day we got lucky with two more big fish. Young Gunnar got another one over 200, and Charlie got one right at 200. Just a great trip with George Davis and his group, and an awesome crew. We will be into the Cape tomorrow to drop off the passengers to fly home and be at Fisherman's Landing on Wednesday.

Hey guys, the yellowtail counts at the Coronado Islands have dropped a bit the past couple of days. There are a couple reasons for the slower fishing. First reason is the south wind we have had for the last two days. This south wind has dropped the water temp a few degrees therefore making the yellows a little less active. The second reason is the seal ions have stepped up there game. In the last three days we have lost at least 40 yellowtail to the lions. Good news is , the south wind is predicted to end by the end of today. Starting Tuesday we should start to see the water begin warming again. With the warming water the yellowtail should get more active making them easier to hook. With the seal ions acting as a tax collector it just comes down to the fact that we need to hook more fish. When we are hooking more fish both the seal ions and us can get our share. The best way to hook these yellowtail has still been a flylined sardine on 25 lb. test. The Coronado Island yellowtail have not gone anywhere , they are still there. We just need the water to warm a tiny bit so we can start catching them again.
