We were on and around bluefin tuna all day. We landed two 75 pounders and a 135. Light loads and perfect weather. Hope your here on bite day.

Capt Mike Pritchard from the Tribute called in an early morning report on behalf of Jay Kinsley making his maiden voyage and they are off to a great start. They have over 50 mixed tuna by 8:30am on board and some hanging and was very busy and could not talk long. Hello Everyone, Today we got an incredible head start to our Black Friday 7 day trip. We loaded a great load of bait and got on the road early. We are headed to the ridge or rocks with hopes of Wahoo, Tuna, Dorado, Grouper, and Yellowtail. Tomorrow will be a rigging day. We will decide whereto start fishing tomorrow. Hello Polaris Supreme Fans, After a good night of sleep we started off our day on the anchor in the same area as yesterday. Right at day break we started to see Wahoo jumping around chasing bait not long after we had our first hookup. For the better part on the morning we kept 1-3 fish going. It seem like today the Wahoo wanted the the flyline bait over the jig. Not only did the Wahoo want to bite but the school size tuna also wanted to play too. Around lunch time the bite slowed so we pulled anchor and went trolling around looking, It didn't take us long to find another pack of hungry Wahoo and tuna. Once again we finished our day off on the anchor with a great pick on Wahoo and tuna. There are still spots available on our 10 day coming up. Aug. 15
    We started our morning off in the local bluefin zone.  We caught 12 of them, 2 of them being the 50+ pounders while the rest were that beautiful manageable 30-40 pound fish and we caught a few yellowfin.  On drift number 2 we hooked and lost one.  Do to the amount of boats thinking the same thing we were and the lack of fish I was seeing being brought over the rail, I decided to leave early and look for yellowfin for a while.  It wasn't long before we found some, and then some more, and then some more.  It pretty much was like that for as long as we fished it which was until after 5 when we went back to the zone where we started.  We had good fishing pretty much all day long.  The only negative thing about it was the grade of fish was a bit on the smaller side.  They weren't runts but they weren't great either.  12 pounds is the short version.  They averaged out to be 12 pounders.  We looked all around for a bigger grade but it pretty much was what it was.  I did think that the area we finished up in yellowfin wise had quite a few more 20 pounders mixed in than what we'd been fishing so it may be something to look at tomorrow.  We finished up right where we started and we had a long 2 1/2 hour drift.  We caught a yellowfin every once in a while, we landed 4 of the 30-40 pound bf's and caught 1 70ish pounder and lost at least 4 of those.  We are going to drift tonight and do it again tomorrow.
                                

 

Captain Ryan Bostian called in with a Coronado Islands update! We are wrapping up our trip at the Islands. We have 16 anglers and we have LIMITS of Yellowtail. The water temp have come up 4 degrees. Very good surface iron fishing and fly-lined bait too. If you are going to join us please bring a Passport. If you do not have a passport please call the San Diego Passport Agency and they can get you a passport in 24 hours. Come on down and join us!

Aug. 22
    We finished up our trip today hunting bluefin.  They weren't very friendly today.  In fact they were down right mean.  We saw a tremendous amount of fish today but very few would bite our lines.  All day long we were stopping on schools and we have 22 fish to show for it.  All of them were nice ones with the biggest going about 60 pounds.  !st and 2nd will be easy, figuring out 3rd place in the jackpot may take a while.  Alot of 45 pounders to weigh I think.

    We're headed in.  Tommy's taking the next one out, and I'll be on board.
                        

 

The Dolphin III has been purchased by Mike Pritchard a veteran captain with a vast amount of experience.   Captain Pritchard has recently worked on the Legend and prior to that spent time working on the the Intrepid and Excel. The Tribute has moved to it's new home at Seaforth Sportfishing were it will be the primary open party overnight boat.
Captain Pritchard has renamed the boat to honor his mentor Bill Poole.   The boat was previously owned by Bill Poole and will be a fine edition to the Seaforth Fleet.
