November 20, 2024 strawberry reservoir Fishing Report

We started in the rain, loading passengers and loading bait. Now we're full steam rolling down in nice weather. There is reports of bad weather down below but we're traveling the correct direction for it not to effect us. We hope this trip is in perfect time with the perfect weather. We'll most likely start the trip off with an afternoon of yellowtail fishing before we decide on where we're going from there.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 09-22-2016 Today was the same but very much different. It was the same in that we woke up very tired from nighttime fishing for yellowtail last night, it was the same in that we had excellent Wahoo fishing today, it was the same in that we had great weather. What was different was the way we caught the Wahoo. It was all on the anchor. So now we have caught Wahoo on the anchor, Wahoo drifting when they wouldn't bite the jigs, and Wahoo in giant shark Malays trolling. And one other different thing we had great fishing on tuna today. We haven't seen them for a couple days but today they did us right again. We're going to start working up the line and aren't sure if we going to have any time to fish left. We got a long ways to go home! It has been an absolutely fantastic trip in absolutely beautiful weather with a great great group of anglers who are now going to take some long long naps traveling home while breaking down their Tackle. Thanks for following us. The Polaris Supreme Crew. PS don't forget we have openings on our day and a half trip leaving Sunday evening at 6 PM fishing all day Monday, and returning Tuesday morning 6 AM. PSS we also have openings on our 10 day trip November 6 if you'd like to join us in some great fall fishing.

Capt Ryan Bostain checked in from the San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing, we went out with 43 anglers today and ended the day with 120 Yellowtail. Today they were from 12 to 28 lbs, with an average around 15 lbs, today they bit mostly on the surface with either a flylined bait or surface iron. We did also manage to get some on the yoyo jig, the ocean is alive down there. Come on down and get you some, make sure you bring a rig for every occasion. See you on the boat.

Aug. 21

We had a good morning today. We managed to be the lucky boat and found a school of bluefin that stuck with the boat and we were able to scratch at them for several hours before having to move. The grade of fish was all mixed up from 15 pounds up to 40 pounds. After that we searched a lot of water and only found 1 school that wouldn't have anything to do with us. It just swam away. There were a few other schools in the area for other boats that did the same thing.

The weather today was OK in the morning then breezed up pretty good in the afternoon and then it backed off at dark. The forecast was down graded from what it was calling for and is now showing pretty good weather for the next few days so we're stoked about that. We hope they're right this time.

We're currently heading for the yellowfin grounds due to the poor reports in the yellowtail grounds. There will be a few of us looking around there tomorrow so hopefully we'll be able to get them located.

November 15, 2024 strawberry reservoir Fishing Report

Hello Supreme fans. We have finally hit our stride and started fishing.Unfortunately it happened to be right in the midst of some extremely tough fishing. Our first trip of the year was an Open party three day trip. We spent the three day searching the ocean for biting tuna as well as some inshore action. The tuna fishing was really slow but full of lots of spots of fish, and they were BIG. Bluefin well into the 150 lb class were around but not biting. We chipped away at some inshore fish and were able to put together a nice catch of quality Reds and Lingcod from the bottom. However the star of the show was hands down the jackpot fish. A 130lb Bluefin Tuna, a hard earned fish that ended in victory! These fish were big and did not make it easy to hook them or land them. Their size, abrasive teeth, and unwillingness to bite created quite the challenge. We did managed to hook 5 fish and only landed one. We are out on a two day after Independence day. Wish us Luck! Team Supreme

November 14, 2024 strawberry reservoir Fishing Report

With great anticipation of a light load aboard the Apollo, all 14 of us anglers showed up at the dock early, swapping stories about past trips. We started boarding about 9:30pm and were greeted by Capt JJ Gerritsen and the rest of his crew, we signed in and had a seat for our safety briefing. Capt JJ then asked if we wanted to head offshore for Albacore which had dramatically slowed down the last couple days or head south along the coast for a shot at Dorado and Yellowfin and Yellowtail patty hopping. Without much hesitation we decided to head south and patty hop. We got the feathers in at gray light and started the troll, within 15 minutes the yell of "Hook-up" sang out, unfortunately the mystery fish got away and we were under way again. Five minutes later we heard that yell again, the mystery fish won round two and will live another day. Third time's a charm didn't hold true for us, our third hook-up is still out there in the deep blue. At that point the first troll rotation was fired (which included me) and the second shift took over. Within 10 minutes they had our first fish on the deck, a skipjack, from that point on while looking for patties we boated about 19 skipjack. We found our first patty around 10am and moved in with hopes of a wide open bite, but to our dismay there was nobody home. That held true for the next 8 patties we found, then finally around noon with a mouth full of burger, we heard the call to get ready. Never fails every time your food is done, it's time to drop a line. As soon as our sardines hit the water the patty expolded, we ended up with 1 Dorado and 2 Yellowtail. We only found two two more patties holding fish and ended up with 1 more Dorado and 4 yellowtail. It was now time to head back to port and we again set out the troll lines and managed to pick up 7 Yellowfin Tuna on the way back in. I really enjoyed sharing the rail with a great bunch of folks and look forward to doing it again soon. If you would like any of the pictures posted please email me at [email protected] .

Hi friends. It seems like things just haven't quite lined up this trip for us. Our first day offshore had plenty of small tuna and beautiful weather but a lack of biting bigger fish. Our second day gave us no squid but excellent fin-bait fishing and a really good morning whack on 18-25 lb. yellowtail. Yesterday, we had great weather, a furious morning on wahoo but only a small showing of tuna. Although we did capture a few of those 75-90 pounders, the signal only lasted a couple of hours late in the day.

Looking at our day today, we didn't connect on any 'hoos but after a reposition on the anchor, we started to see very good sign of that nice tuna around. Our problem today was our lack of a fish count. We didn't really have a problem hooking fish this morning, our problem was getting these fish past the ravenous sharks down here. We had steady action on the fly-lined baits and we had a really good kite rotation going but even with 100 lb. test on Tiagra 50's, we were unable to properly horse most of the tuna to the boat before ultimately losing the battle to the sharks. Ugh, very frustrating. Things look really good here on that big tuna and if we didn't have a shark issue, we would've had ourselves a really great day.

Oh well, we had our shots and to rub a little more salt in the wound, the wind is projected to really stir things up out here so we had to make a move a little more inshore to set ourselves up for not only yellowfin tuna, wahoo, dorado, and yellowtail, but to also keep one step ahead of the weather. We've made all the right moves so far, it's just a matter of us having all the stars align just right and when/if that does happen...Sonny Jim, baby.

So that is all. Aside from a little rain, wind, and fish-less kelps this afternoon, our weather was absolutely gorgeous and we took the day to relax and enjoy some delicious food. Chef Schooler served up one of the best fish dishes I've ever had in my life for dinner. Fresh wahoo -- donated by Polaris Supreme regular Dennis McNeely -- was placed under a pool of lemon beurre-rouge sauce with a vegetable stir-fry, and rice. Round of applause for Schooler on that one, I couldn't have been more impressed by that meal and I speak for the entire group. With that, we'll be back at it again first thing tomorrow. Before I go, I just want to mention how fantastic our bait is this trip. We really lucked out as the entire long range fleet is code red mere hours into their trips and we have been blessed with the best load of bait we've had all year. We're grateful, we're pumped, we're out.

-The Supreme Team

P.S. I don't know what's going on, but Mark hasn't had any hardhat infractions in days. I know that everyone following our reports are really confused by a lack of hardhat updates but Mark hasn't received any penalties. Don't worry though, friends, a big one is coming. I'm talking an all-day hardhat donning. It'll happen, be patient everybody, it'll happen and it will be glorious.
