Hey guys:

We are still seeing plenty of yellowtail at the Coronado Islands. Our counts for the past week have been anywhere from 3 to 48 yellowtail per trip. It seems like if you get around the right school at the right time they will bite. We have seen schools at just about every spot at the islands. Today we went out with 28 passengers and caught 12 yellows. The biggest fish today was a 36 pounder caught on a fly lined sardine. Most of our fish have been in the 20 pound class and have been taken on fly lined sardines on 25 lb. and yo-yo jigs on 40 lb. The weather has been absolutely perfect. We are running everyday. We scratched away at some excellent grade yellowtail today. Really nice quality. Most over 30 lbs. The weather is flat calm, gorgeous. We hope the volume of fish we are seeing will bite better tomorrow. Susan said we still have some open spots on the upcoming five days if you can get away give her a call. Thanks, Tommy and crew

We had a very very good afternoon of yellowtail fishing today. The grade was 16-22 pounds with some going larger. We took off at dark and will be looking offshore tomorrow for wahoo and dorado.

Sep. 19

We didn't start fishing today till around 2:00 in the afternoon. Before that we traveled up in very cool dirty looking fishless water as we expected. Everyone slept in and chilled out while the crew did some maintenence on the boat and did some repairs on monday details. After the boat was in tip top shape we ate fish tacos and got ready to fish. We didn't find any wide open yellowtail fishing but we scrached out an afternoon. We caught 3 a round on mostly good grade yellowtails with a few cows mixed in. 35 pounders is about what they were. So we're traveling up now in good weather to the yellowfin/dorado grounds. We could use a top off on some yellowfin and we can use some more dorado and then we'll have most of a day to fish for the bluefin before we head for home.

31 bluefin 72 yellowtail. Beautiful weather and some very fun island fishing. Flylined baits on 25lb line, surface iron and yoyo jigs all produced.

The Apollo went out with 21 Anglers and they caught 41 Halibut and 4 White Seabass. The Halibut ran from 15 to 40 lbs.

Drew and the guys got in this morning off of Garth Kubeldis's Optima 1-1/2 day charter. They had a great catch for only 16 anglers fishing at 150 miles. The total was 39 bluefin, average weight being 29 lbs., 3 yellowfin, one being the jackpot fish at 35 lbs., and 11 yellowtail.

The POLARIS SUPREME is on line for an open party 2-day trip leaving Wednesday to target the bluefin again. At 10:00 am this morning one boat had just reached over 50 fish in the same area Drew was in and the rest of the fleet was heading that way. Polaris Supreme Update 08-02-2012

 

Hi Anglers. I'd just like to start by thanking our Polaris Supreme passengers on the last trip. You did a fantastic job and the crew enjoyed fishing with all of you. Even you Byler. Congrats to Mr. Myles for taking first place in the jackpot with his 39 pound bluefin tuna. Also want to give a shout out to a Mr. Jack and Mark for staying close behind taking second and third places with a yellowfin and another bluefin. I better see all of you next year.

 

After doing our normal arrive depart chores of offloading fish and passengers, scrubbing the boat, fueling the boat, loading groceries and the new passengers we were off again.

We departed on Tom Chaparros 14th annual charter. This year he turned it into a 6 day. We got our bait and now we are underway. We will do the norm here this afternoon. A lot of rigging up tackle, napping, reading and just hanging out enjoying the day. We have high hopes in the offshore tuna grounds tomorrow so check back and I'm sure we will have a good report.
