Hello everyone, Today we weeded through a lot of small Yellowfin Tuna for a few premium models, from 20-40 lbs! It was tough weeding through the little ones to get to the keeper tuna. There was some nice Snowy Grouper mixed in as well. A nice Tuna/Grouper combo. We decided to head offshore around lunch time in search of kelp patties. We found one kelp that was absolute chaos. It was as fast as you could catch for a while. A beautiful Dorado bite to get everyone fired up. A few lucky anglers were lucky enough to catch some Wahoo on the kelp as well. Good evening. Another good day for us here on the bountiful Pacific. It started with crewmember Mark singing "When You Wish Upon a Star" in his tone-def, SoCal-hillbilly kind of a way that only Mark can get away with and it didn't stop all day. From the crack of dawn (0530 hours), all the way until after dinner when he began belting out a lovely rendition of Shaggy's "Mr. Boombastic" while bumping SiriusXM 90's on channel 9 at full volume in the wheelhouse. Good times. Anyhow, daily limits of 12-35 lb. yellowfin tuna, fifty-four "boombastic" bluefin tuna, and a handful of dorado to top off a stellar day. We'll be here for one more day looking to finish up our trip with a banger. Damn good fishing and fantastic weather. Whammy.

With that being said, here are a few statistics that I unofficially kept track of throughout our day.

Times Drew did the "Diamond" David Lee Roth kick: twice.

Number of times Patrick accidentally soaked my body from head to toe with the deck hose: once.

How many months that Bill Byler wrongly blamed Dick Emerson for writing profanities on his brand new jigs with a yellow paint pen: eleven. It was Mark and I's doing. We're naughty.

Number of fish Schooler knocked off with the gaff: none. Sonny Jim!

Number of Monster Energy Rehab Green Tea drinks consumed by Drew, Gunny, and myself: umm, I didn't keep an actual count. They're only 20 calories each, so who cares? Bottoms up!

Daily percentage of saturated fat in one slice of tonight's desert, Dulce de Leche cheesecake: 140%...one hundred and forty percent!?!! Wowza!

Yellowfin tuna caught by Herb Yamanaka's jigs he sent us: too many to count. We're going to be millionaires. Prestige Worldwide.

How many people are currently viewing me sing the lyrics "...when I think about you, I touch myself" aloud while typing out tonight's report: none.

An 81-pound bigeye tuna that came out of a school of albacore was the first tuna of its kind to come in on a long range boat this season, and it won the Polaris Supreme jackpot for rookie angler Carl Geosana of Whittier at Fisherman's Landing July 14.

Drew Henderson skippered the five-day trip with 24 anglers, and was the beneficiary of a tip from Doug Reed and the Renegade that put him on the albacore, which have staged a badly needed re-bite at about 90 miles from San Diego.

Henderson said a second bigeye, a fish in the 120-pound class was hooked.

"Everybody on the crew pulled on it," said Henderson, "for over an hour. We had it close enough to bring out a gaff once, but it took off again, and finally busted the 30-pound line it was hooked on."

Geosana said he spent an hour and 15 minutes on the 81-pounder.

"I almost went overboard when he bit," said Carl. "He went down, and then he pulled me up to the bow, and I had to get over the anchor there at least ten times. He kept making runs, until the reel got red hot."

Carl said he fished a sardine on a 3/o Eagle Claw hook, and used 30-popund Big Game line, a Penn 500 reel and a seven-foot Ugly Stick rod.

Greg Hannond of Huntington Beach was second, for a 42.6-pound albacore, and Brad Hall of San Diego won third place for a 42.4-pound albie. Skipper Henderson said his anglers had a very good catch of yellowtail and some bluefin tuna and were "‚Д¶just short of limits of the albacore. At least half the guys did get limits."

Hi friends. Yellowtail fishing was off the hook this morning -- or, on the hook, depending on which way you look at it. Fifteen to twenty-eight pound fish just kept coming over the rail and we also had a few flatheads as well. It was all you could've wanted on fly-lined sardines, yo-yo jigs, and surface jigs too but we only took a few boxes to break up the morning and from there, we ventured offshore with the hopes of finding something floating for dorado and wahoo.

Let me tell you, trying to locate kelps in eighty degree water is a difficult task and although we did get lucky and found a couple scraps, they weren't holding all that much. However, we did troll up a few legitimate ball-slappers, a marlin (healthy release), and one really nice wahoo at dusk caught by Mike Henry. His wahoo looks to be in the fifty to sixty pound range and he coaxed that fat skinny into latching onto a purple and black Marauder. Good going, Mike.

For tomorrow, we'll be fishing for all kinds of species but our main target is wahoo. We'll see what tomorrow brings. Our weather is just splendid and the all-day bronze-a-thon continues. I'm starting to look like Hulk Hogan out here. Supreme guns. Later.

We had limits of Lingcod and limits of Rockfish (mostly reds).

We are no kicking back watching the NFL playoffs. That's right! The Tribute has DirecTV on the boat.

Aug. 10
    Well, I can't say we caught very much today.  I can say we saw plenty of schools, we just couldn't get more then one of them to bite and on that school we caught one 70 pounder.  I'm thinking we saw about a dozen schools of tuna today but like I said, it was the wrong day for biting fish in these grounds.  The weather though today, man o man is it nice out here so at least we got to look at non biting fish in good weather.

    In other fishing news we got the word from the higher ups that Mexico has lifted the ban on recreational bluefin tuna catching and keeping so with that news we're going to roll on down into some traditional Mexican bluefin tuna grounds and give that a go tomorrow.  We'll be looking for yellowfin tuna as well tomorrow.  We've heard they"re in the area too.  Wish us luck.
