 Here we go again.  Arrive/depart today.  Off with the old, out with the new.  5 days.  That's how long we have on this one. 5 days.  Weather forecast looks terrific for at least the next few days so that's wonderful.  We have another first for me this trip.  Before this trip I have never loaded up with straight mackerel for bait.  Other than the last trip but that was a 1.5 day trip.  This is long range.  Straight mackerel.  That's 3 top tanks, and 2 big slammers full below deck.  All full of mackerel.  So this will be interesting.  It looks like great yellowtail bait.  Not great for chumming but great for catching the yellows, and I'm sure the bluefin will eat them too, just not as well as the sardine.  Oh well.  It is what it is.  We'll just make lemonade, that's all.

 So to start things off tomorrow we will be fishing for those yellowtails.  And most likely, we'll be doing that for the next couple of days before getting in the hunt for the blues.  Action.  We want action.  Wish us luck.

The Endeavor out of Ventura Harbor Sportfishing returned from an Overnight trip with 18 passengers.

Fish count: 65 Whitefish 180 Rockfish

YELLOWFIN ON THE REBOUND (090510) APOLLO came back in from a 2-day trip with 133 Yellowfin Tuna, 16 Albacore & 6 Bluefin Tuna. Time to go guys!!!

7 yellowtail 109 calico bass 63 barracuda. Plenty of bites but with the lack of yellowtail we have decided to head offshore starting tomorrow. We recommend having a 20-30lb rod for kelps and smaller grade tuna and another rod with 40-60lb preferably with a 2 speed reel for fish over 50lbs. Flourocarbon is always recommended when we are offshore. Be prepared to fish flylined baits, sinker rigs and flat falls.

Hi friends. Well, the morning bait/Yellowtail bite didn't quite pan out this morning so we decided to get our butts offshore and try to connect with some open water species. We managed to find a bunch of kelps and we had some action on some Yellowtails that way but we never located a school of Bluefin that wanted to bite. We did see a few schools of BFT as did the other boats in the area but they were reluctant to bite for any of us. Hopefully, tomorrow is a new day and these things will get with the program.

We'll be giving this a half a day or so tomorrow to see if we can't do some damage on the BFT tomorrow before we have to book it for home. Our weather was absolutely flat calm all day with a heavy overcast but the sea and wind conditions were stellar. We've got a little rain washing the boat as of right now (23:42 hours) and a few brave souls are downstairs trying for some squid. I'd better go see what they're up to.

Hi friends. We finished up our trip today with a decent score of small bluefin, medium bluefin, small yellowtail, large yellowtail, dorado, and two very nice yellowfin. Mark also caught a yellow hard hat which he promptly wore the duration of the day. Anyhow, our weather started out kind of windy but by days end, it was absolutely gorgeous. We're happy everybody had a good time and we'll be in tomorrow morning sometime around 0800 hours. We'll be turning around and rollin' back out with Eric Rogger and company for a five-day adventure. Ryan Bostian called in with this update on fishing on the San Diego, "Boy we pulled one out of the hat today, we had zero Yellowtail on the boat at about 1:30 PM. We found some fish late in the day, we caught 15 Yellowtail, 57 Barrcuda and 25 Rockfish for 34 passengers. The water temperature dropped a little this morning with the wind that we had yesterday and the water gradually crept up and got right back up to 63.5 degrees, 64 degrees. The Yellowtail are still down here, excellent, excellent fishing late in the day. We ended up with 15 of them we lost at least another 15. The same story as earlier, they are nice size, in shallow water. If you are coming down bring 25 or 30 lb. test with 2/0 hooks and be ready to fly line some bait. You can also surface lure on the top for the folks that like to do that.

We are headed south at the moment. Today will consist of mainly rigging and prepping. Primarily for Yellowfin Tuna and Wahoo. We are looking for kelps today to keep them honest but our main focus is on making good speed for tomorrow.
