puddingstone Fishing Report 2025

Today we had a good morning hit on the Tuna and Yellowtail. We were able to fill in the cracks for the people who still needed Tuna and also be selective for the larger models. After that we spent the day working up. picking up a few more Wahoo, Grouper, and larger Yellowtail . We will be focusing on Yellowtail tomorrow.

Sep. 1

Today was kind of a disappointing day. We woke up catching yellowtail but it quickly stopped biting after daylight. We trolled up the place for several strikes on wahoo but the catching was slim. The ratio of hooked to land is never good with wahoo but this morning it was especially bad. We lost 3 marauders today. That's about what you lose when you have a 100 fish day on these things and we did not. Anyways, after that we weren't getting strikes anymore so we kept her rolling to a couple of spots I've been real excited about trying for the last couple of weeks and it really bummed me out. No wahoo, no tuna, not even any dorado. A few yellows was all. So we ran back up to this mornings honey hole and had a strike where the odds were in our favor. I'm not sure if we lost a fish. 8 lucky anglers caught a nice wahoo. We trolled it up till dark for nothing else. We're going to give it one more chance tomorrow looking in a different wahoo, dorado zone and if it stinks we're going to finish up the trip in the closer to home zone. We're keeping an eye on the storm so there's nothing to worry about ladies. I'll bring you hubbies home safe and sound.

Polaris Supreme Report 07-26-2016 Hello everyone Today we really put the nose to the grind stone and had to work at these yellowtail. There are big fish around but they are proving to be very difficult to catch. Today we had 3 obstacles: slack current in the morning, hundreds of veracious baby yellowtail, and the famed sea lion. These mammals proved to be the toughest bout we encountered when it came to landing big fish. Many of the better quality yellowtail were lost to the sea lions including an absolute standout monster that would have went over 40 pounds. We were able to boat the fish, but not after the taxman left his mark on the portion of the belly. That aside we made out with a nice catch for the day, everyone was able to put tags on plenty of fish. It was a truly action filled day, full of hundreds of releases and hard fought battles with the sea lions with hard won success in the end. Especially our dark bite that went off right at dinner. That was all beautiful quality fish and no sea lions they were already on land sleeping. Hopefully tomorrow will be at least as good with a little less action on the sea lions . Saturday April 13

(report from the office)

We arrived at Hurricane Bank at 4pm and started fishing. The seven anglers on board landed 29 wahoo by dusk. After dinner they went back out for an evening bite that lasted until 3am and picked up 27 tuna ranging from 90 - 198 lbs. Three that were estimated over 200 lbs were lost. There is lots of life around here and our weather is really great. Richie is keeping a detailed daily log and will post it when we start back home.

The Polaris Supreme Crew

Hello everyone, Today we spent the day Wahoo fishing. It was a pretty slow day, conditions were poor and the current was not happening in our favor. We scoured the grounds for only a few Wahoo and Dorado. There were a few Marlin mixed in as well. Defiantly not good enough to keep us here tomorrow. We are off to try for tuna tomorrow. This past week has been all about chasing yellowtail. The amount of yellowtail we have been seeing at the Coronado Islands has been very impressive. The fish counts have not been a representation of how much fish is in the water. Stopping on a school of 300 yellowtail and only hooking 1 has become very common. On Friday we managed to catch 30 yellowtail and Saturday produced 20. These fish are still running in the 20-30 pound range with multiple fish over 30 in the past week. Fly lined sardines on 30 lb. yo-yo lures on 40 or 50 lb. as well as surface iron on 40 lb. have all been producing fish. These yellowtail have been a challenge to hook mainly because of all the bait in the water. When some of the bait goes away and these fish settle in. 50 to 100 fish days will become common. The San Diego checked in with us today. We finished with 10 Yellowfin, 23 Dorado, 12 Yellowtail  and 13 Skipjack. Choppy seas made things tough but we managed to scratch a day out. Hopeful for tomorrow.

Nov. 19

Good evening once again everyone. Well, we broke up the day this morning with a couple hours worth of fishing. Unfortunately we didn't catch much but we were due to travel all day today but we had an hour or two to spare so we took it. The weather has breezed up for sure. It is a bit of a bumpy ride but it's not horrable. We only had one other day of windy weather the whole trip so we'll take it. In a whole it was a rather slow trip. We did catch a lot of big beautiful dorado and we can't complain at all about the amount of wahoo we caught or the amount of tuna we caught either for that matter. We lacked on the larger sized tuna and we didn't connect with the yellowtails on the way home either but hey, you've heard this before, "that's fishing". I hope and I think I can speak for everyone on board and say we had a great ten days out here. I said it in my first report and I'll say it again, I love this group. This is not your mystery passenger Ed writing to you but your captain/ co-captain/ deckhand Drew writing this and I'll write this on behalf of all the crew members abourd the Polaris Supreme, thank you charter heads Lon and John and thank you to all who joined us.

I would also just like to thank all who came out fishing with us this year and in years past. You are what allows us to do what we love to do and what allows us to pay our bills and raise families doing what we love to do so unfortunately, for the last time this year, we all say THANK YOU and we'll hopefully see you next year!
