Hello everyone We are wrapping up our Beck, Wagstaf and Emerson and Friends 5 day trip today. This trip the Joe Beck, Mal Wagstaf and Emerson and friends charters joined forces on this summer time five day trip. We had some great fishing on some great quality yellowtail. Most of the fish were well into the 25 lb class with some pushing 30lbs. The fish were up high and very surface oriented. They were being hooked on the fly line sardine and surface iron. It doesn't get much better than yellows boiling around the boat and chewing on the surface iron. We had very few small fish mixed in with these biting yellows, the vast majority were great quality fish. It was a great relief getting into these big biting fish after a few trying trips with tough conditions. The next leg of our trip was spent offshore and lead to fantastic kelp patty fishing. The kelps we found had great sized yellows on them school size tuna and also some trophy Dorado. We were able to top off our yellowtail count and mix it up with some Dorado and tuna as well. The water was blue, the fish were biting, and the weather was flat calm. Everything one would ask for during an offshore fishing day. We departed today on the Dan Heil Memorial charter with his son Ron Heil as charter head. It's pretty cool to see some of the old faces. Dan's charter has been with me for over 25 years. We were in a panic rush to get out and get to the local fishing grounds before dark. We got about three good hours of fishing and snagged a handful of yellowfin, a bluefin and a beautiful opah. 54 passengers 6 yellowtail 80 calico bass 56 barracuda. Great summertime action taking place at the Coronado islands right now. Yellowtail are always the target species this time of year. However, almost every spot that we try to catch yellowtail at also has calico bass and barracuda. It would be a good idea to bring a 15 lb. bass rod along with your yellowtail gear.

Bill Roecker spoke with Polaris Supreme owner-skipper Tommy Rothery as he was leaving his slip at 12:30 p.m. Tommy said and Fisherman's Landing spokesman Robert Falcon confirmed that the permits to fish Guadalupe Island for shark boats and long rangers have been obtained. The papers are being flown in from La Paz to Tijuana, and are expected to arrive at 1:30. They will be available at 3 p.m. today. One of four boats departing today, Rothery's Supreme will come back to pick them up, taking some out for the other three boats. The permits are good for two years.
