Hello Polaris Supreme Fans, After a good night of sleep we started off our day on the anchor in the same area as yesterday. Right at day break we started to see Wahoo jumping around chasing bait not long after we had our first hookup. For the better part on the morning we kept 1-3 fish going. It seem like today the Wahoo wanted the the flyline bait over the jig. Not only did the Wahoo want to bite but the school size tuna also wanted to play too. Around lunch time the bite slowed so we pulled anchor and went trolling around looking, It didn't take us long to find another pack of hungry Wahoo and tuna. Once again we finished our day off on the anchor with a great pick on Wahoo and tuna. There are still spots available on our 10 day coming up. Captain Ryan Bostian called in with an audio update from the San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing in San Diego, CA. Today we had every intention of fishing for Yellowtail. We checked our usual spots and could not find any fish. The water rolled at the Coronado Islands. So we headed West and we ran into Bluefin Tuna. We say large schools of tuna in the 50 to 100 pound range.

We ended up catching 6 of these trophies (up to 65 pounds). They were biting on 40 pound fly-lined sardines. You might also get lucky on surface iron or popper action. We are going to be running Bluefin Tuna trips. There have been some fish caught up to 245 pounds this year.

Sep. 19

We didn't start fishing today till around 2:00 in the afternoon. Before that we traveled up in very cool dirty looking fishless water as we expected. Everyone slept in and chilled out while the crew did some maintenence on the boat and did some repairs on monday details. After the boat was in tip top shape we ate fish tacos and got ready to fish. We didn't find any wide open yellowtail fishing but we scrached out an afternoon. We caught 3 a round on mostly good grade yellowtails with a few cows mixed in. 35 pounders is about what they were. So we're traveling up now in good weather to the yellowfin/dorado grounds. We could use a top off on some yellowfin and we can use some more dorado and then we'll have most of a day to fish for the bluefin before we head for home.

July 27
    Todays saying for the fleet fishing with us was "you should of been here yesterday".  We fished in yesterdays hot yellowfin zone and it pretty much stunk.  It was one of those mornings when you wake up to find 30 boats in one little area and an hour or two later you don't see another boat because we all panic and split up to find where the fish swam off to because they're sure not here.  We had one kelp in the morning that had a good amount of tuna on it but it didn't bite well.  We were getting them one at a time for a little bit before it quit.  After that we didn't catch another tuna until after 5 PM.  We found a little stretch of water there that kept our interest up.  We started getting jig strikes. We found a kelp where we caught a nice little bit of tuna on and found an area of breaking fish that wouldn't bite.  We were stopping the boat until dark.  

    The weather was great today.  We're going to head down and fish the coast for yellowtails tomorrow.
                                    

 

Weather took a turn for the worse. Today it was darn right sloppy looking for tuna. Although there was fair signs of 25-35 lb tuna, it wasn't what we were looking for. We were on what little sign there was of 200 lb tuna most of the morning, but it didn't want to bite. Scott caught and released a 110 pounder and Tom lost one well over 200 lbs. One other boat picked up two over 200 lbs., otherwise that was the only sign of cows seven boats had for the day. The water has cooled off quite a bit. Otherwise there is still plenty of bait around. We are going to bust a move tonight. We will be traveling two more days. Oh yea, lunch was bar-b-que beef, hors d'oeuvres more sushi and sashimi and dinner was Chilean sea bass in a mango salsa with fresh jalapenos and cilantro. Man that was good. I had two helpings myself! Thanks!

Captain Ryan Bostian called in this afternoon with an audio wrap-up for today’s trip at the Coronado Islands. Our final count is 109 Yellowtail and 35 Calico Bass for 33 anglers. Excellent fishing today at the Coronado Islands. Fly-lined Sardines and Surface Iron worked well. Just cast on the boil. Come on our and fish on the San Diego.

Drew Henderson docked Polaris Supreme September 22 following a six-day trip with 22 anglers that visited Cedros Island and the albacore grounds with a look for very little at Guadalupe Island on the way through. "The day started up very well for us," he wrote September 18. "It was good scratching up until just after lunch and fishing took a dump. We looked around the Island for a bit and after making a few stops for a few more fish we took off from there and are now heading west to the big Island. We have a great catch of jumbo yellowtail on board and we're hoping to get some jackpot-settling, trophy size yellowfin tomorrow. We had Portuguese style yellowtail for dinner tonight. We had it last trip for the first time and I must say it was by far the best yellowtail I have ever eaten in my life."
