nh saltwater Fishing Report 2025

The Annual SFR charter aboard the Apollo with Captain J.J Gerritsen and crew was a big success !! The Apollo is running out of Sea Landing on beautiful Santa Barbara Harbor, the closest harbor to the outer Channel Islands. Great weather meant an ideal cruise over to San Miguel Island for some of the finest shallow water rockfishing you'll find anywhere. 300 feet down you say, maybe 200, how about 100 feet ? No way. The offshore terrain around San Miguel is so rugged and marked with underwater pinnacles, we spent most of the day fishing in 25 to 90 feet of water. Lighter rigs, jigs, leadheads and swimbaits were the order of the day, and the San Miguel rockfish were in a hungry mood. We started catching fish before daybreak and spent the rest on the trip hauling up huge reds, chuckles and lings, all sporting some of the most vibrant colors I've seen on any fish in a long time. Awesome day!! We limited out on huge rockfish, slammed about 50-60 grumpy whitefish, 5-6 huge goats and 16 or so pre-historic looking lings before calling it a trip. Epic day !!!! The jackpot was a nail biter as Shawn Suhr's huge lingcod and Art Moralez's giant goat battled to a near dead heat. Captain J.J needed to come down and settle the score, with the final vote went going to Shawn's 12-13 pound ling. Great job Shawn. Captain J.J and his crew did an awesome job as always and the Apollo is looking as spotless as ever. The Apollo will be in Santa Barbara till around mid May before moving down to Fisherman's Landing in San Diego. San Diego regulars Eli Malfavon and Elmer Mun display a couple nice yellowfin they landed in our all day drift. We stopped the boat once for 103 yellowfin and 27 skipjack.

It's time to start thinking about the summer fishing schedule. We have a couple of opportunities to offer if you want to jump on a trip. First we have two spots open on a 5 day trip departing the morning of the 24th of May and returning on the 29th. The trip is limited to 10 people. This has always been a fun trip. 11 Yellowfin & 145 Yellowtail. Steady November kelping, plenty of action.

Capt Ryan called in from the San Diego, they wanted everyone to know the are still fishing offshore. Today we ended the day with 105 Yellowfin Tuna and a handful of Dorado, a few Yellowtail. The fishing is still great down here, we need a few more to make tomorrows trip a go, our loads are light and the weather and the water is perfect. Polaris Supreme Update 08-12-2012

 

Just had to get a quick report out before Web Master Rolf goes to work. We have had 2 wide open crazy biting Yellowfin and bluefin tuna school's so far and the second one has turned into a plunker. Weather is great and I got to go.

Hello Everyone, Today we spent the day looking for kelps. The weather was windy with a lot of white caps. Through the chop we managed to find some kelps holding some Dorado. Never found the kelp with the mother load, but we were still able to scrape together some fish. Although choppy weather, the anglers still managed to have a great time during their annual Solex contracting 1.5 day charter. We look forward to next year guy! Back out for 2 days tomorrow. Great day heading up! Today we were able to find some Yellowtail to pull on. Good fish around, however it seemed that the water was a little too cold for them to bite good. Will be prospecting off shore tomorrow. We have a 1.5 day departing this Friday that still has openings. Perfect weekend trip to not miss work!
