Polaris Supreme update  10-4-12  14:00 hours

Hey Anglers,

Richie and the gang got out at 18:00 hours last evening and neglected to put out a report. But I can tell you I talked to him at 12:00 hours today and he was very disgruntled with only jig strikes to be had so far. I talked to him later on at 14:01 hours and he was doing back flips with over 100 bluefin in a wide open bite and they were still biting. They have great weather and I'm sure Richie will have a report for you by the end of the day or tomorrow morning when they arrive at 06:00 hours. Our next 1.5 day trip is full but we do still have openings on the 6-day departing this Sunday, October 7th.

Nov. 11

After our previous day of wide open fishing - we had high hopes of the same on giant yellow fin tuna. The day started with Captain Tommy identifying sonar readings of big schools of tuna all around us. We fished hard all day. Kites, sinker rigs, fly line, chunked, jigged, drifted and anchored. Tommy calling out the sonar readings the whole time, ", "big tuna at 20 fathoms" or "we are surrounded by school tuna 10 fathoms to 30 fathoms". We began to doubt Tommy's sonar and guessed that it was just a screen saver image. Then, in the late afternoon, tuna started flying out of the water all around us for a 1/4 mile. 100 lb to 300 lb tuna fully coming out of water and giving us a show and taunting us once more. At the end of the day Greg, Matt and Rick caught larger tuna and kept us from getting skunked. We flushed the stomachs of the tuna and found them stuffed with pelagic crabs. The sardines, mackerel and flying fish we offered were not on their menu. We hear of a place up the line where the yellow tail are biting. We are going there now.

Captain Ryan Bostian called in this evening with an update from the Coronado Islands. We had 94 Yellowtail today. The fishing was very good. Come on down to Seaforth and get on the San Diego. Be sure to bring your bait stick, yoyo iron, and surface iron outfits. We run everyday. You can book online or call Seaforth at (619) 224-3383 to get in on the action.

Polaris Supreme arrived August 23 with skipper Drew Henderson at the wheel. Ryan Christianson of San Diego was chartermaster for the 24 anglers aboard on the Let's Talk Hookup trip. Mark Greul of Omaha, NE presented a 58-pound yellowfin at the scales and won first place for his effort. He said his fish bit a sardine on a 3/0 Flyliner hook tied to 30-pound Blackwater fluorocarbon and 30-pound Ande line. He used a Torium 30 reel and a Seeker Black Steel C8 seven and a half-foot rod. Richard Miller of Jackson won second place for a 40-pound albacore. Mark Cornoll of Jackson won third place for a 31.6-pound yellowtail.

 Good evening folks. So today was a rather tough day of fishing. The weather certainly didn't cooperate with us for the entire day. Mixed up choppy seas with a little better than 15 knots of wind. As we all know that makes for less than ideal fishing conditions, but the guys still hung in there and when it came time to stop on a breezer, meter mark or a nice size kelp patty, then still got out and got their lines wet so bravo to them.  We still managed to scratch up a few yellowfin throughout the day with a couple tuna right at Sundown to take us into wine tasting and dinner. They always say that a tough day of fishing can be cured by a great meal and that was sure the case today. Chef David certainly out did himself once again with a beautiful fillet mignon and king crab leg meal for us tonight. That put some smiles on some faces without a doubt. But that's trhe great thing about this group, they aren't out here just to fish, they love to enjoy the full experience.  To wrap up the night, we dished out probably the tallest "decadent" chocolate cake a la mode that I've ever seen! Wow! That sent them to bed with full bellies and a nice ride up to tomorrows tuna grounds for round 2 of tuna fishing. Wish us luck and check back in tomorrow for the days run down.

 P.S. The entire group here would like to send a huge congratulations to Mr and Mrs. Taylor Gledhill as they welcomed their healthy 7lb 17oz 19.5 inch baby girl into the world today at 4:20.  We're going to go ahead and chalk this one up as a travel day.  That's pretty much what we did today.  Starting last night.  And it was a rough one.  As soon as we got a couple hours northeast of the stones things got a bit windy and the boat started to rock.  Not good sleeping weather.  We got through it though.  Even Chef Mike got breakfast out without too much whining this morning.  Things started to smooth out a couple of hours prior to arriving to our fishing hole.  Our fishing hole didn't prove to be very productive though.  So we traveled up.  That's something you have to do on these longer trips when you fish the Rocks or the Ridge.  It's a long way down there.  So we caught a few wahoo on our travel day.

 Unfortunately the weather picked back up this afternoon and we've been scooping waves over the house steady since 3:00 or so.  Right now I turned it down swell for dinner because we have a couple hours to kill.  We're going to head back up to our tuna/wahoo honey hole from the beginning of the trip and hope for good weather.  Just two days left to fish on this trip.
       

The apollo is running a two day charter this weekend and needs two people. The trip is limited to only 20 people and departs on Thurs. night at 9pm and returns on Sat. night around 7pm. The San Diego would like to thank everyone for a Great Year! We had very good fishing for a variety of species including: Yellowtail, Bluefin Tuna, Dorado, Yellowfin Tuna and more. We are hauling out tomorrow and will be doing maintenance for a couple weeks in the dry dock. We will then finish up at the dock at Seaforth. We will most likely run a few trips during Christmas Holiday and we anticipate being online next year for Winter Yellowtail fishing. Thanks again!!!!
