A four-day trip with 24 anglers aboard Polaris Supreme and skippered by owner Tom Rothery returned to Fisherman's Landing July 9. Richard Bradshaw of Poulsbo, WA won first place for a 43-pound bluefin. He got that fish with a sardine on a 4/0 Mustad hook, 30-pound Maxima line on a Sealine 50 reel and one of the boat's rods. Jules Appelman of Albeuquerque was second for a 39.4-pound albacore, and Doug Dalme of Napa won third place for a 38.9-pound albacore tuna.

July 6

Today went as planned. We did about what we thought we'd do. Scratched at yellowfin most of the day. Our best stop was for 7, then 6, we had a handfull of 4's and the rest were 3's 2's and 1's. That's exactly how the tuna fishing has been on a good day for the last few weeks so we had a good day.

The weather did what it was supposed to do. It was beautiful in the morning and got breezy in the afternoon. It looks like the wind backed off when it got dark. Hopefully it stays that way. We're heading down to Cedros Island now and we'll be there at day break.

Captain RJ Hudson checked in this evening with an update from the New Seaforth out of Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay. Today on our afternoon trip we had 17 anglers catch 1 Halibut (up to 25 pounds), 1 Whitefish, 17 Rockfish, and 75 Vermilion Rockfish. Besides the air temperature it almost felt like summer today. Hopscotched schools of yellowtail all day long. Ended up with 102 yellowtail from 12-20lbs. Yo-yo jigs and dropper looped sardines worked best.

Variety was the theme on our first 3 local fishing trips of the year. Yellowtail , bonito , halibut , calico bass , sand bass , sheephead , lingcod , red rock cod and rockfish were all part of our fish count the past few days. The highlight of our weekend was a yellowtail we caught Sunday morning that was every bit of 30 pounds. The best rigs were a dropper loop with 6 oz. torpedo sinker and a sliding egg sinker rig with a 3/4 oz. Our next trip is on Friday November 23. Call Seaforth at 619-224-3383 for reservations.

Ryan Bostian called in with this report from the San Diego, "As it stands right now we are only 30 miles from home and we have 150 Yellowtail, 6 Bluefin tuna, and 6 or 7 Dorado. August 21

Hello all of you readers. We departed on our Let's Talk Hook Up 4 day trip this afternoon and said some prayers as we headed to the bait receivers. So far as I write this I am still pleasantly pleased by the bait we got. It's still not a dynamite load of bait but compared to last trip we're holding our heads high. Only time will tell. Relaxing afternoon aboard the Polaris Supreme. The weather couldn't be better and it appears we should be blessed with another wonderful flat trip in the open seas.

It's 7 o'clock p.m. and I'm still not 100 percent sure of where we'll be tomorrow. I'm leaning towards starting off where we left off last trip. You'll find out tomorrow. Stay tuned.
