UPCOMING HOT TRIPS!!! We are planning on running some specialty trips sponsored by Berkley and Shimano These trips will be out of Santa Barbara, targeting White Seabass and/or shallow water Rockfish at the Channel Islands. The Annual SFR charter aboard the Apollo with Captain J.J Gerritsen and crew was a big success !! The Apollo is running out of Sea Landing on beautiful Santa Barbara Harbor, the closest harbor to the outer Channel Islands. Great weather meant an ideal cruise over to San Miguel Island for some of the finest shallow water rockfishing you'll find anywhere. 300 feet down you say, maybe 200, how about 100 feet ? No way. The offshore terrain around San Miguel is so rugged and marked with underwater pinnacles, we spent most of the day fishing in 25 to 90 feet of water. Lighter rigs, jigs, leadheads and swimbaits were the order of the day, and the San Miguel rockfish were in a hungry mood. We started catching fish before daybreak and spent the rest on the trip hauling up huge reds, chuckles and lings, all sporting some of the most vibrant colors I've seen on any fish in a long time. Awesome day!! We limited out on huge rockfish, slammed about 50-60 grumpy whitefish, 5-6 huge goats and 16 or so pre-historic looking lings before calling it a trip. Epic day !!!! The jackpot was a nail biter as Shawn Suhr's huge lingcod and Art Moralez's giant goat battled to a near dead heat. Captain J.J needed to come down and settle the score, with the final vote went going to Shawn's 12-13 pound ling. Great job Shawn. Captain J.J and his crew did an awesome job as always and the Apollo is looking as spotless as ever. The Apollo will be in Santa Barbara till around mid May before moving down to Fisherman's Landing in San Diego.  We spent today offshore mostly looking to top off on dorado.  There were 7 of us long range boats looking to do the same today.  There was plenty of this warm water for all though.  Unfortunately there wasn't enough kelps with fish on them for all.  We were one of the more lucky ones.  We didn't completely top off but we were only 20 fish shy.  Along with the dorado we caught some small tuna off a few spots.  3-5 pounders.  Now keep in mind most everyone on board have never fished out here in there lives.  When everyone on board hooked one of these tuna at once, it was great.  They were all so excited and they all just loved it.  Don't worry, I very much encouraged the release of these fish.  This was a great group of guys.  Great.  Super laid back and just enjoyed every minute out here.  Caught a bunch of colorful jumping dorado, lots of yellers and even a marlin.  I can't wait to have them back.  And you know it's true too because I usually don't write that.  I love all our passengers.

 Tomorrow we get in and leave again for just 2 days this time.  Hopefully we get out of there good and early and then et some fishing in tomorrow.  I have no idea what we'll do after that though.  Time will tell.
    

This morning we had a passenger who was having a medical problem and had to be airlifted off. We were lucky as Coast Guard was near by rescuing some people off a sailboat. So it was very quick and efficient. Last report is he is doing well. Fishing today was ok. We got some jig strikes for a handful of tuna above the island. In the afternoon we got the anchor down and continued to fish the tuna until a shark shut us down. So we moved to another spot that had good signs of tuna. But even though they were showing well they did not want to bite. The yellowtail however did bite and we got some big hombart yellowtail for about an hour and a half until the shark found us from the previous spot and shut us down again. So we tried to out smart him and swung back up to the original spot and got into some 20-55 pounders. Tomorrow we will be in a different area and should be fishing by 9:30 tomorrow morning. Our weather is ok. There was some wind going down, but not a bad ride. And it was beautiful calm in the lee of the island. Chef Rick is on board this trip and made a great roasted chicken with a garlic cream sauce, zucchini and rice. And dessert was Death by Chocolate. Really good. Thanks for checking in.

The Apollo scored limits of nice grade Rockfish today at San Miguel Island. The Apollo will be running OPEN PARTY Overnight trips every Saturday night. Give them a call and fish the Outter Channel Islands fishing for White Seabass in the morning and Rockfish in the afternoon.

After a couple of slow days for the fleet we decided to go out on a search mission. Our morning was spent chasing 30 lb bluefin that we’re very difficult to hook. Around 12:30 our sonar lit up with the sweet sound of shallow, spread out yellowfin tuna. After 3 1/2 hours and ten short stops. Our 30 anglers were able to drop 123 yellowfin and 1 bluefin into the refrigerated Sea Water. Best success came on flyline bait on 25-40 lb, colt snipers and poppers. We will continue to fish offshore and target whatever we see.

Good evening everyone. We departed this afternoon on a private family charter with an excited load of kids and adults ready to put their fishing luck to the test. We made a stop at the bait receivers and loaded up on some healthy sardines to bring with us on our journey to the southern fishing grounds. The bait looks good and everybody is ready to put said bait to the test. For now, everyone is in the galley, getting ready to munch on some prime rib, a Polaris Supreme departing night tradition. Our fishing outlook looks good as there are some scores to be had on Bluefin, Yellowfin, Yellowtail, and some Dorado too. As for the weather outlook, it's looking like it will be a little bit windy for tomorrow, but Sunday is looking like it might calm down. We'll see for ourselves tomorrow.

For now, we'll just keep on chugging down to the grounds and with that, we'll chat with you tomorrow evening. Take care.

126 yellowtail 21 bonito. Come prepared with a yo yo rod and a bait rod. A few 6x jrs and a few 1 oz egg sinkers. Surface iron also produced for the seasoned Angler.
