We are putting the Tuna to sleep here aboard the Polaris Supreme! Great grade again 60-110 lb fish. Big fish paired nicely with great weather. We are loving it!

Good evening. We spent our morning getting the Supreme and her passengers out of the weather for a bit, attempting to locate some coastal species for a morning while we gave the offshore scene a rest. We didn't quite connect like we were hoping but we did manage to catch a few yellowtail for our efforts, so all was not for lost. We made the decision to get back offshore and see what was going on and what was going on was scattered jig strikes on yellowfin tuna with some bait stops to go along with it. There is still some good hits to be had out here on both bluefin and yellowfin but we just didn't locate the right batch of fish. For tomorrow, we'll be fishing a little bit closer to home as we'll give it a try for a few hours and then have to book it for home. Wish us luck and sorry for the short report, the weather traveling up isn't the best conditions for typing but it's still okay to traveling. It could be a lot worse but we don't want that. Good evening, friends. Sorry for the lack of reports. Not a whole lot of excitement going on the with us on the Supreme but around the fleet, is an entirely different story. More on that later.

For us, it's been a lot of work down in the guts of the vessel, ensuring that the Polaris Supreme is running at tip-top performance. On Friday, the day finally arrived: Coast Guard "top side" inspections. At times, the thought of Coast Guard can be somewhat daunting for some boats. For us, it's no big thing. With our weekly maintenance schedules that we perform throughout the year and quality of care that Tommy has given to his beautiful ninety-two foot sportfishing yacht, Coast Guard is no big thing. We appreciate what these people do for us, which is make sure that the vessel operates properly and continues to take our passengers time and time again and return safely. On this day, they also made sure that our crew could properly handle a man overboard situation. In short, we passed with flying colors and as for the operation of the vessel, all is fine for the exception of a couple "minor" things, we passed. We're pumped. This next week Drew, Tommie, Mark, Jamie, our electrician guru Greg Hibbs, master carpenter Steve Russo and myself will take care of the few items that we need cross off the list before our follow-up appointment with the USCG. Our fishing season is nearing and things are starting to get very interesting on the water.

I'm sure most of you read the reports from the boats our on trips right now. Bluefin tuna in the 25-40 lb. class as well as some beauties in the 60-100 lb. category are biting, the Royal Star has captured the first Albacore of the season, a couple Bluefin have also been captured in the day and a half range and spotter planes have been flying around some of the local waters and have seen a few fish as well as some tasty looking conditions. Bottom line, it's time. It's time to get yourself on a trip. Call Susan ASAP, ask what trips have openings and get on a trip now. This crew is ready to go. Let's make it happen. It's just around the corner and you aren't going to want to miss a shot at what is shaping up to be a tasty summer season.

Drew Henderson brought Polaris Supreme home to Fisherman's Landing August 31 following a five-day trip to Guadalupe and Benitos. Guadalupe yellowfin swept the jackpot. The Benitos yellows were good-sized, with one 46.6-pound whopper being the best of the species caught there, by Kub Ito of harbor City. Dan Tran of Hawthorne won first place, for a 98-pound yellowfin he bagged with a sardine on a 4/0 Super Mutu hook dangled under a balloon. He said he fished with 40-pound Big Game line, an Avet LX reel and a Shimano eight-foot rod. Phil Hidey of Arcadia was second, for a 75.4-pounder, and Joe Beck, a regular long ranger and retired LA motorcycle officer won third place, for a 63.6-pound Guadalupe yellowfin tuna.

Mike Pritchard called in to give this report for the Tribute. "We're on day 2 of a 4 day charter trip with a light load of guys. It is just an 8 man charter. We're having very good fishing. We started off fishing for Bluefin yesterday, with a little bit of Rockfishing in the afternoon. We also caught a couple of nice Lingcod up to 28 lbs. We made a move about 100 miles down the beach and got into some really good Yellowtail fishing, 35 to 40 lb. yellowtail. The best techniques have been fly-lined fish, yo-yo jigs and surface irons. Just very fun fishing. We're going to spend the rest of the day down here and go offshore tomorrow. We'll target some yellowfin tuna and keep you updated.

  We had a good day.  We had a great day actually.  From about 8-12 it was pretty darn good fishing.  We scratched before that and we scratched after that.  And from 5:30 until close to dark we had very good fishing.  The best of the day.  Heck, I'll call it the best of the year for us.  Quality and quantity.  Through out the day the fish was all mixed up.  !4-22 pounds.  This evening I don't think I saw more than 2 fish below 16 pounds.  Most were bigger then that.  Like I said, we had a good day.  And we did it in the wind too.  All day long it was windy, windy, windy.  But we didn't care.  We were catching fish.

  We're going to stay the night and try and get another good hit in the morning and take it from there.  We may mess around up the lee of the Island or take off offshore and look for tuna.  We'll play it by ear.  First things first, we want a good hit.
