Today we spent our final day offshore. We had a few hours to try for some kelp patty Tuna and Dorado. We tried multiple kelp's for nothing. However we did have one kelp patty that was an absolute aquarium. It was wide open for the smaller yellowfin tuna. It was incredible action to end on. We also caught a few bonus Dorado as well. A fantastic Finnish to a five day trip.

Aug. 23

Let me wine for a few sentences please. With the exception of a 3 day window in the second week, we haven't had two days of good weather in a row in the whole month of August. It's tough to even make it a full day with good weather. Windy August 2013. Screw you August. Needless to say it's not very comfortable traveling right now. Good weather early turned to blown out pre lunch, then backed off for an hour , now blown out again.

OK, I'm done now. Slow fishing today. We had three deals today that didn't bite all that well. 8 out of 1, 14 out of another and then we had 1 for 1 and then we called it a trip. Oh well, we still had an awesome trip. We'll be in tomorrow after 7:00 in the morning and the big guy will be taking it out for a 5 day trip.

Funny. Right around this time every year I get an itching to fish the Coronados for big island yellows, and when I get an itch I scratch it! Captain Ryan Bostian skippers the San Diego out of Seaforth Landing running to the Coronados everyday, so nobody knows the islands better or fishes its waters more. Itchin' for some fishin' and with friday off I headed down to San Diego and jumped on board with 28 other anglers for a scheduled full day trip to the islands. We were at the Islands and fishing within two hours and it didn't take long before we were hanging and catching some quality fish. Huge bonito, nice calicos and barracuda paced the early action as Captain Ryan moved the San Diego from spot to spot looking for steady action and the elusive island yellows. We found good action throughout the day and starting hanging some yellows as well. Keith Hayashi landed the first yellow of the day on a sardine and we spent the rest of the afternoon picking off nice yellows on both bait and the iron. Big mean mossbacks in the 14 to 23 pound class. Nice fish !!! We ended the day with 9 yellows, 12 calicos, 19 barracuda and 44 bonito. Really nice day of surface fishing for everybody on board. The San Diego leaves every morning at 5:30 out of Seaforth Landing fishing the Coronado Islands. Captain Ryan and his crew will provide you with you're best opportunity to fish the pristine waters around the islands and possibly catch one of the nice mossbacks like we did today. The Coronado Islands and the baja coast are coming alive. Many options for us right now. Yellowtail, barracuda,sandbass and the occasional white sea bass. Today we went out with 40 beginner anglers. We are coming back to the dock with 14 yellowtail 49 barracuda 32 sandbass and 41 sculpin. Conditions look promising for us. Reservations can be made at 619-224-3383 if you would like to join us.

Capt Mike Pritchard from the Tribute letting us know they still have a few spots left on tonights 1.5 day trip departing out of Seaforth landing departing at 8pm. Looks like the weather will be great this weekend, there have been some yellowfin around we know where the Bluefin are and they should start biting at any given time. Hello everyone Today we had a nice day of fishing. We were able to get a nice morning hit on these Bluefin Tuna. Today they were not only 20-40lbers. We hooked some larger models in the 80 lb range. We did not land them due to long battles on 20-25 lb test. At least we know they are here and ready to catch! We will be trying here tomorrow for one more day before the wind picks up. This is a 2 day trip that fishes September 27-28 (departing the night of the 26th).This outing is limited to 16 anglers.

The unusual part of this trip is half the anglers will be fly fishers. If you conventional fish, this means you get the stern to yourself as fly rodders like the sideways drift of the boat and stay on the windward side. Fly rodders are the first in on the slide but based on past averages, conventional will still out-fish us 5 to 1.

The trip is 670.00 and includes fishing permit, bunk and food. Drinks, crew tip and fish cleaning is extra.
