Friday, Sept. 28th, 2012

Hi friends. We just wrapped up an epic day and a half trip this morning. Drew really set the stage for this two-day trip that we departed on this afternoon.

On Thursday, we landed 16 bluefin before we even rubbed the boogers out of our eyes and from there we picked and scratched on various jig strikes on yellowfin and kelp paddy fish. A little after lunch, Gunny spotted a kelp that wrapped up our day on yellowfin and dorado. Awesome fishing in flat calm weather. Beautiful. The "blackhawk" strikes again. It really was a fantastic trip and we're hoping for more of the same tomorrow. Oh yeah, we also caught 4 slug albacore. Call Susan and book your spots for 2013 ASAP! Do it.

Good eveing friends. Checking in from the bridge in between dinner calls. We started the day shut down on on a few fish marks to see if we could get something to build up and hooked a couple of small grade yellowfin, but it just wasn't the right kind so it was time to pack up and go looking. Shortly after a couple released tuna, we got mobile we swung by a few tuna pens and they didn't really produce. A lot of small yellowfin and aquarium size yellowtail with a couple nicer 25 lb tuna to put a tag on. Too bad a couple hundred more of his buddies weren't tagging a long with him. Tommy got up with me this morning at about 0245 and got busy downloading some awesome water charts that way we could map out our playground for the day. Not much luck at the pens, so off to kelping we went before we started working some warm water edges. We just couldn't seem to find the big boomer that was loaded or catch that school that was out there roaming around. The ocean is a pretty big place when you're out there by yourself. You have your great days along with the slow ones and today it was just one of the slow ones. The guys really hung in there and fished hard though. Charter Master Joe Gigliotti got busy like the Italian he is and cranked out about a dozen handmade pizzas for lunch that were second to none! Every year that's one thing we really look forward to on his trip is the pizza's. He brings all of the ingredients with him and certainly rivals any pizza place that I've been to!

I do have to add, for all of you Mark "The Crow" Clark fans, we actually got him to not say one word all the way through dinner last night. He actually had to use a note pad to communicate! Quite the sight I must say, but today it was back to business as usual...Caw Caw Caw. Keeping the passengers laughing and giving his illegitiment father Kub and Uncle Joe Beck and hard time as always. So tommorrow we're gonna wrap up the trip in the bluefin grounds and I have a feeling it's gonna be game on. Time to get nasty and end with a bang. Drew has to sport the lucky 7-11 hat, Gunny will be in all blue as he always is when we get 'em and Mark, he'll still be talking. Time to shut out the lights and enjoy first watch. The Pacific Voyager just got back into port from a 2 day with a few yellowfin tuna,one bluefin, and albacore. This is shaping up to be an interesting year with the first yellowfin being caught on this short trip. Call Seaforth to make reservations (619) 224-3383

Hello Everyone, It has been pretty action packed today. Starting with biting Yellowfin Tuna in the dark then, changing to picking at Grouper and Wahoo during the day. Now settling back into a night time pick on the Yellowfin Tuna. It seems like there is always something going on. We are loving the variety and cannot wait for what tomorrow brings. July 28
    Today we had about as good of yellowtail fishing as you can get.  Quality to quantity ratio, holy Toledo.  18-25 pound fish and they were biting pretty much as full speed as yellows bite for a couple hours and after that it slowed down but they were still biting well for a couple more.  If you have read my past reports you know that surface iron fishing on big yellows is my favorite kind of fishing and it was pretty much wide open on the surface iron.  Holy Toledo!  I'm not the only one who felt this way either.  We have a Polaris Supreme first timer on board, his name is Josh and he may love it more then me.  He named his dog after a surface iron.  Tady.  How cool is that?  We've had a tank of mackerel on board for about 3 weeks and we finally let them go today.  On hooks that is before getting eaten by yellows.  In the late afternoon ewe looked for bait and found some a couple hours before dark and caught a tank full of nice mackerel.  We restocked our supply.  We made a couple drifts along a kelp line while the sun set and tugged on a few calico bass and now we're headed up to fish tuna tomorrow.  Sweet dreams.

108 yellowfin 27 skipjack. These tuna stops have been going from boredom to chaos in a matter of seconds. Knowing how to tie your own hook and leader, having your own pair of pliers, and listening to the crew and making slight adjustments during the stop will keep you in the game. We recommend taking some time before you come out or on the way to the fishing grounds to practice tying on your hook/leader. Captain Ryan Bostian checked in this evening with an update from “The San Diego” out of Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay! Today we had 34 passengers catch 7 Bluefin Tuna (20 to 55 pounds) and 12 Yellowtail. We had several heartbreaks on 75 to 120 pounders. Please bring a 25 to 30 pound rod as well as a 50 pound rod.
