Builder Harold Davis of Davis Boats in Paso Robles was fixing to leave on the Polaris Supreme.
"We're building and selling more diesels in our larger boats these days," he remarked. "We're making more pilot house models, especially. Even down here, it's nice to be able to get in out of the weather. It takes away the cold and the wet." Davis was just back from "Salmon Getaway Weekend,"at Bodega Bay.

Polaris Supreme Trip Update 10-30-2018 Fishing was a little scratchy all day. We hooked one around for the day and landed most of them! The sharks were not too bad. Knock on wood. Our adversary today was the weather we had some gnarly wind up to 35 kn gusting over the island at times and then it would be slick not a breath of air. We found drifting work the best to keep the tangles down to nothing. The weather as far as roughness was good being in the lee of the island. We're going to do this for a few more days and are still very excited about our prospects. As you can see the fish we landed today are absolutely beautiful grade. The Polaris Supreme Crew

The San Diego out of Seaforth Landing in San Diego,CA checked in with us today:

Nicer weather= nicer fishing ! The underwater binoculars had us stopping regularly on 12-20 lb yellowtail. Yo-yo jigs on 40 & 50 lb was the hot setup.

We have only 5 spots remaining on our June 1-6, 5.5 day trip! This trip is limited to only 18 passengers and is filling quickly!! Trip departs at 6pm May 31st, and returns 6am on June 6th. We will be fishing Cedros and Benitos targeting Yellowtail and calico bass. As well as fishing offshore for those early season bigger bluefin tuna! Ticket cost is $1300 per person.  We drifted most of the morning until around 9 or so.  We drifted due to us catching fish.  We caught a whole lot of fish this morning.  They weren't the same 20-25+ pounders we've been getting.  There were a few of those, but these were about half that size.  It wasn't what we were hoping for but they were still fun.  The guys were having a blast.  They were getting some practice at the whole tuna fishing thing, picking a good bait, where to drop in, follow your fish... And they got to use some of there tags as well.

 After that we thought it would be a great idea to make a few hour run and get to San Clemente Island to catch those big yellows we caught there a couple of trips ago.  In theory it sounded great, but we didn't catch very many yellows.  We ended up bailing on it and looking for some bluefin that's been hanging around there.  We saw one pretty good spot around there but they wouldn't bite.  At dark we ended where we'll start tomorrow.  Some boats had some pretty good days here today on a very good grade of yellowfin along with some of that 25-50 pound bluefin as well.  Oh how I hope we can get in on some of that tomorrow.
Time will tell.  Cross your fingers at home. We'll take some good luck anywhere we can.
      

We spent all day looking for kelps and never saw a single scrap. Not a single scrap. One beautiful wahoo on the troll late and that was all we tagged. We will be anchoring up Alijos Rocks early morning trying for a night bite and try for tuna and skin during the day.

Captain Ryan Bostian called in late last night with an update from The San Diego out of Seaforth Landing in Mission Bay! We had 101 Yellowtail for 53 anglers. We also saw a couple nice spots of Bluefin Tuna. Right now we are not allowed to catch Bluefin Tuna in Mexico so we will continue to focus on Yellowtail for the meantime. Hopefully, the Bluefin issue will be resolved soon.

Reed Fiori checked in this evening with an audio update from Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay. Today the San Diego fished at the Coronado Islands. They had 18 anglers catch 25 Yellowtail, 42 Bonito and 56 Red Rock Cod. The Yellowtail bit late in the day. The Yo-Yo Jig was the ticket and there was a couple fishing caught on the surface iron.
