kanopolis lake Fishing Report 2024

Today we caught 2 yellowfin tuna and did not like what we saw offshore. We are going back to the islands starting tomorrow. Bring a 25 or 30 lb flyline setup and a 40 or 50 lb yoyo setup. Passports required !

Nov. 16

                I'm pretty sure there are no yellowtail on this side of the Island.  If there were, we would have seen them.  This place was very lively this morning.  Pretty much, everywhere we looked, there was good bait and bird sign.  I'm sure if there were any yellows around they would have made a showing.  We stayed in the best area for hours, drifting for groupers and halibut and what ever else would bite our lines hoping to see those yellows pop up but they never did.  They weren't around here.  Unfortunately, we couldn't look anywhere else because the weather was no good.  It was fine where we were.  A strong wind but the swell was blocked by the Island.

 

                So we're just sitting here now waiting for the wind to back off above here.  We're messing around catching bass.  The wind pretty much went away in the lee here.  Hopefully that's a sign things are backing off up above here.  We should be on our way home around midnight.  Our weather program shows very tolerable weather then.

  We had a very very good day today.  Stoked.  We got in the water we were looking for around nine this morning and it wasn't an hour before we found our first school.  We plunked away for a couple hours and when things slowed down, we got the call from our buddy Brian on the American Angler who was drifting a mile or so upswell of us and he was on the boomer school so we went over and gave him a hand.  About an hour later another boat showed up and we took a break.  I sent everyone in for lunch while myself and the crew got the deck under control and fired up another fish hold.  After lunch we went on the hunt again and found another deal, and then another but by that time most of the anglers were now spectators.  An hour before dark we found another good school and we may have had 5 or 6 people fishing all with a bent rod.  That's what we call a very very good day.

  We're off to Cedros Island.  We'll be there prior to daylight and we hope for some good yellowtail action for the next couple of days.
           

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 09-18-2016 Good evening everyone and thanks for checking in. Today was another gorgeous travel day into the lower latitudes. The weather just just about picture perfect all day long. As normal on these longer trips, Mike prepares a little bit of a later breakfast and shortly after the crew puts on our detailed fishing tackle seminar. There is a lot to go over to get the guys tuned up on the wide variety for fishing we might encounter. Being that there's so many different things we might see, we can't leave any stone unturned, especially for the guys that either haven't been on the Supreme or just haven't been on a longer trip at all. It's very important we have everyone dialed in and on the same page. The rest of the day was rather casual, a lot of rigging, crimping leaders, setting up jigs and just making sure all of the gear is fine tuned,. Once we got everyone tuned up the afternoon closed out with movies, naps reading books and just enjoying a nice ride down. Tomorrow we'll start off with some offshore style fishing and continue to make our plan for the rest of the trip.  There really isn't much to report today.. We didn't fish.  We traveled all day.  We chose to fish later last night in the windless lee of Cedros catching yellows, tuna, and seabass instead of going offshore in the wind/swell and most likely catching nothing or small tuna.  I think we made the right choice.  We had a bit of a bumpy ride last night, or so I'm told.  As usual I slept through it.  We were almost to the coast when I woke up for my watch, so things were a lot smoother.  So today we slept in and had a late breakfast of biscuits and gravy.  The crew got our scrub on while the customers read, hung out and played poker.  After lunch, on cue, most of the boat took a nice nap.  Now dinner is at it's end and my watch is almost over and I'm ready for bed.

 We'll be arriving tomorrow at 6:00 in the morning.  We should have a fairly quick turn around and we'll be back out again, this time for 4.  I'll be taking her out and I'm not sure where we'll go yet.  Fishing right now is at that stage where things need to and will change very soon.  We just hope we're in the right place when they do.

Hi friends. It seems like things just haven't quite lined up this trip for us. Our first day offshore had plenty of small tuna and beautiful weather but a lack of biting bigger fish. Our second day gave us no squid but excellent fin-bait fishing and a really good morning whack on 18-25 lb. yellowtail. Yesterday, we had great weather, a furious morning on wahoo but only a small showing of tuna. Although we did capture a few of those 75-90 pounders, the signal only lasted a couple of hours late in the day.

Looking at our day today, we didn't connect on any 'hoos but after a reposition on the anchor, we started to see very good sign of that nice tuna around. Our problem today was our lack of a fish count. We didn't really have a problem hooking fish this morning, our problem was getting these fish past the ravenous sharks down here. We had steady action on the fly-lined baits and we had a really good kite rotation going but even with 100 lb. test on Tiagra 50's, we were unable to properly horse most of the tuna to the boat before ultimately losing the battle to the sharks. Ugh, very frustrating. Things look really good here on that big tuna and if we didn't have a shark issue, we would've had ourselves a really great day.

Oh well, we had our shots and to rub a little more salt in the wound, the wind is projected to really stir things up out here so we had to make a move a little more inshore to set ourselves up for not only yellowfin tuna, wahoo, dorado, and yellowtail, but to also keep one step ahead of the weather. We've made all the right moves so far, it's just a matter of us having all the stars align just right and when/if that does happen...Sonny Jim, baby.

So that is all. Aside from a little rain, wind, and fish-less kelps this afternoon, our weather was absolutely gorgeous and we took the day to relax and enjoy some delicious food. Chef Schooler served up one of the best fish dishes I've ever had in my life for dinner. Fresh wahoo -- donated by Polaris Supreme regular Dennis McNeely -- was placed under a pool of lemon beurre-rouge sauce with a vegetable stir-fry, and rice. Round of applause for Schooler on that one, I couldn't have been more impressed by that meal and I speak for the entire group. With that, we'll be back at it again first thing tomorrow. Before I go, I just want to mention how fantastic our bait is this trip. We really lucked out as the entire long range fleet is code red mere hours into their trips and we have been blessed with the best load of bait we've had all year. We're grateful, we're pumped, we're out.

P.S. I don't know what's going on, but Mark hasn't had any hardhat infractions in days. I know that everyone following our reports are really confused by a lack of hardhat updates but Mark hasn't received any penalties. Don't worry though, friends, a big one is coming. I'm talking an all-day hardhat donning. It'll happen, be patient everybody, it'll happen and it will be glorious.

P.S.S. Andrea - Jed says that although Ron might have the keys to his room but only you have the keys to his heart. That's very deep.
