 Here we go again.  Arrive/depart today.  Off with the old, out with the new.  5 days.  That's how long we have on this one. 5 days.  Weather forecast looks terrific for at least the next few days so that's wonderful.  We have another first for me this trip.  Before this trip I have never loaded up with straight mackerel for bait.  Other than the last trip but that was a 1.5 day trip.  This is long range.  Straight mackerel.  That's 3 top tanks, and 2 big slammers full below deck.  All full of mackerel.  So this will be interesting.  It looks like great yellowtail bait.  Not great for chumming but great for catching the yellows, and I'm sure the bluefin will eat them too, just not as well as the sardine.  Oh well.  It is what it is.  We'll just make lemonade, that's all.

 So to start things off tomorrow we will be fishing for those yellowtails.  And most likely, we'll be doing that for the next couple of days before getting in the hunt for the blues.  Action.  We want action.  Wish us luck.

Thanks for the amazing response to the OPEN Shimano Charters we scheduled for the Channel Islands this spring. The response was so positive that I spoke with the folks at Shimano and they agreed to put another trip on line. This one will be set for fishing on March 13. That would be departing at 9pm on the night of the 12th. This trip will be just like the others. Shimano will provide a bunch of outfits for fishing butterfly and lucanus systems. There will be give aways of tackle and goodies as well. Please email me if you would like to join us on this trip.

Polaris Supreme Trip Update 07-28-2016 We finished up our trip today with some scratch yellowtail fishing all morning and then an afternoon of rock cod fishing, all in all a very successful day and trip. Thank you very much Mark Costello and fellow anglers for making it so. Were heading up in some beautiful weather and looking forward to our next group with Tom Chaparro and his limited load of only 18 anglers.We still have openings on our four-day trip after Tom's five day if you would like to come out fishing with us! We are hearing signs of yellowfin tuna that actually wants to bite. We are excited to give it a try here on Tom's trip. And no Mark Castillo group it's not the local stuff! Hi Anglers

Well I tried to get a hold of Drew since four this afternoon to no avail. And that's usually a good thing...and indeed it was. Finally at seven he picked up and said he was getting them good. He had 117 bluefin, and it was all that nicer 25-35 lb. grade. It's amazing this fishing has been going on since June. I hope I don't jinx myself here, but it looks like we're heading for a record year here on bluefin.

"Today we went offshore you know we have some political stuff going on at the Coronado Islands," said Ryan Bostian captain of the San Diego. "So we are fishing offshore for the time being. It looks like our timing was pretty darn good. Today we went out there and caught 15 Bluefin tuna and 13 Yellowtail. It's nice to be able to go out there on a 5:30 to 5:00 trip and catch exotics like Bluefin tuna. We had one really good shot at them. They were boiling on the corner.

"Most of our group today were beginner fishermen. If you are looking to join us for some offshore fishing our next Open Party trip is next Thursday. This Thursday we will be fishing Open Party, we will be on out offshore schedule. That means a 5:30 to 7:00 trip. The ticket price is $115 which includes your Mexican fishing license. We saw a good sign of Bluefin tuna. It seemed like every kelp paddy had a few Yellowtail on it, but we're mainly fishing the Bluefin out there. Some schools bite, some do not, but there are certainly plenty of them out there. If you'd like to join us please make reservations at 619-224-3383."

Today was one of those days in which our anglers and ourselves will probably remember for the rest of our lives. Not because of the amount of fish we caught, but the tremendous shows these fish put on. It all began this morning when we found a fishy area on our way to a spot in hopes of wahoo, tuna and grouper. We spotted a nice bird school in some beautiful looking water. When it first came into sight, still a couple miles away, we saw some 30lb grade tuna jumping around in the middle of it. When we got up to it, the scene was a bit different. The tuna were pushed off of it by a jumbo school of big stripped marlin. And what a show they put on for us. A couple of our anglers presented their bait or jigs in the right place and the right time and hooked into these big beautiful fish. They where tail-walking and jumping high out of the water everywhere. On top of that, we were constantly seeing free-swimming marlin on all sides of the boat. Some even came within five feet of the boat! There were literally hundreds of marlin around the boat. It was truly a sight to behold! Finally, after battling and releasing all the marlin we hooked, we carried on making our way to one of our spots that has been extremely productive for big wahoo, tuna and grouper the past couple months for us. When we got there we quickly boated a couple handfuls of very nice mid-sized yellow fin tuna. Even though the tuna where present, there was little to no sign of wahoo. All of our anglers having wahoo on their mind, we decided to make our way to a spot about nights run from where we were. We will be there at the crack of dawn tomorrow. Hey guys Ryan from the San Diego here! Today we went out with 25 passengers and caught 15 yellowtail. The style of fishing we are doing right now is a lot like offshore fishing. Lots of driving and looking. Our crew has been burning there eyes all day in the binoculars. Those who have patience and are willing to put in the work have been rewarded with a very large yellowtail. In the past 4 days we have caught 5 fish over 30 lbs. Our bites have been coming on both yo-yo and surface lures. Grab some fresh 40lb. mono and come on down .
